They had to come back out within the first year to add freon, wrong size filter was installed on furnace and now just under 2 weeks out of warranty again out of freon but they will be so kind to charge me $350 just to come tell me what I already know. Had a solid experience with Burkhardt recently. Though calling them is the last thing we'd ever want to have to do, we were certainly in need of their services. We woke up in the middle of the night to a pretty cold house, and soon realized out furnace went out. Luckily it stayed warm enough until we could call service in the early morning. Burkhardt was very responsive and sent a tech out within an hour of our contacting them. Speediness here is extremely appreciated! Aaron was on-site and very helpful, in not only fixing the problem, but also explaining everything to us in depth (and in layman's terms). We know every little about home heating systems, as we've only recently moved in to our first house, so it was very helpful to understand the problem(s) and what our options are. Luckily it was a fairly quick fix so the heat is back up and running. Not-so-lucky is that our furnace is simply very old and there's only so much "bandaid work" that can be done before we'll need a new one. Later in the day, another employee came by to talk us through options for when we choose to replace it. Great to know there are multiple routes we can take in terms of pricing/financing, and the units themselves. Plus it sounds like as soon as we'd like to pull the trigger, they generally fit these replacements in quite quickly. Good thing, considering Wisconsin winters! It was free to have the consult and quote, and there was a $150 service charge for the tech that fixed the initial issue. No complaints here. I've used Burkhardt for HVAC service for my Northridge Lakes, Milwaukee condo since I moved here in late 2021. This is my third condo. I've installed a whole new set of HVAC before, with good results and satisfaction from a Cudahy, WI HVAC company before. With the present condo, I was blessed with a prior owner who replaced the furnace a few years before my purchase. They had also just replaced the central A/C prior to sale. So, I needed a good local N.W. Milwaukee HVAC. I had a couple of fine recommendations for Burkhardt services, so they became my HVAC vendor of services. I've used them now for 4 1/2 years, with excellent services provided for keeping my now "early middle age" HVAC equipment in good running order. They focus on preventative maintenance, something which I'm especially appreciative . I recently had the yearly furnace check up/cleaning completed by service tech Kennedy. He was very polite, knowledgeable, and respectful of property. I was impressed. This fellow will go far in life with such good service skills. My goal of providing good maintenance of the HVAC equipment so as to maximize its lifespans is in very fine hands with Burkhardt. read more

I have always had excellent service from them in person or when I call. I've always felt their recommendations have been accurate and their prices are very competitive. I usually purchase in the middle price range for home improvement because I don't want cheap quality or service. They are not the cheapest nor are they the most expensive. We had a really good interaction recently with Burkhardt. We had some issues with a chemical smell coming through the vents whenever we turned the heat on. I called Burkhardt as they had done work on our home previously. They offered to come out the next day, but we were unavailable so we scheduled for a time the next week. We were given a window of 8-12 and the technician arrived around 0845 which was great for us! He did a through job and was able to find the problem. Our furnace was older so hearing that it would be best to get a replaced was not surprising to us. They were able to coordinate someone to come out that afternoon for us to get a quote and discuss our options. It was really nice to be able to do this all the same day as my husband had off, and we didn't have to take additional days to address this. We ended up replacing the furnace. May 2023 - Burkhardt did an outstanding job of doing a complete replacement of my HVAC system with the Armstrong Air Pro Series. My old HVAC system sounded like a 747 was landing in my apartment every time it powered up but this new system is so quiet and efficient I couldn't be more pleased. The installation team did such a great job that when they were finished my mechanical room was so neat and tidy it was like they were never there. Absolutely TERRIBLE office service. We had a question on our invoice and it took me emailing 3 times, over 5 phone calls and so much time wasted on hold just to get a hold of the office manager. She NEVER called me back, just emailed the rudest email from a manager I've ever seen. They threatened to send a letter of lien for "no payment" when I had been trying to reach them for weeks about the payment. My parents used Burkhardts since 1994. When they converted from heating oil to a more efficient gas boiler hydronic system. By looking at the paper work from the past for various service calls and tune ups. Everything looked in order and was not excessive. The 2nd furnace eventually gave out after 24 years of service. It developed a small leak in the heat exchanger. Causing a drop in pressure. Oddly it was so small that it never really developed a noticeable puddle due to evaporation. Rick came out access the boiler. And gave good suggestions. I had interactions with Kim for various appointments and was able to meet with Doug the owner who came to review the options for this home. They applied the previous service call charge and a yelp discount and the price was slightly more than what my parents paid 24 years ago. Upon completion they cleared up the area and did removal and install in one day. They did point out the areas that were damp an that the small drips would probably heat and seal on the expansion tank. They did seal them selves but the supply side had some dripping at the reducing valve soldered joint. Two more follow up visits. Were covered under warrant to fix the two leaks. They didn't mind making things right. I feel bad that some business can have such a large amount of happy customers yet the most vocal are the ones who had less than stellar encounters. Be careful when using service of this vendor as you may deal with the scheme of extortion for additional unnecessary jobs and services as happened to myself a few weeks ago. Company technician (Ryan Kickland) during annual service of the furnace demonstrated a picture of the damaged heat exchanger with the clear and obvious hole in it and recommended furnace replacement. The same statement was confirmed with multiple pictures by the project manager, who provided the quote for furnace replacement for $5000+. To my great surprise when the heat exchanger was replaced by another vendor no holes on heat exchanger were found. To my request for explanation management offered statement that "Looking at the camera it does appear that there are concerning areas". Not just "concerning area", but clear pictures of holes were demonstrated to me as a forgery documents that caused me for the heat exchanger replacement and additional unnecessary expenses. Additionally it's worth of mentioning that the technician was so involved with lying about the heat exchanger that forgot to do service for humidifier (water wasn't even running through) but charged for it. That was a complete disappointment to me as this was the first time in my life I dealt with the forgery by a reputable service company. read more

I have an update. My AC is still unbalanced so my kids rooms are freezing while the rest of the house is warm. A Burkhart technician came out and verified the issue and suggested some restrictor plates as a solution. I was told someone would come install them shortly. A month passes... Rather than fix the issue, they refuse to even call me back. Based on Doug's response I think he must have read my review and gotten mad. To clarify, Doug's response is not accurate. My unit was not permanent nor had it been leaking for years. I had only owned it for a season in fact. Frankly I don't care about the floor damage that much. It was minor. But the customer service is awful. I paid $14k for an AC system I can't run because my kids freeze at night. And the company has no intention of correcting their work. Don't make my mistake. Scammers! The company replaced a part that wasn't broken. Was told the furnace motor was broken and they replaced it only for heater to not work again 8 hours later . Was told they would charge another emergency fee to come back to fix the problem they didn't fix the first time. Once the heater was finally fixed (by another company) we tested the "broken" motor they took out . Hooked it back up and surprise surprise it works fine . (Have video proof ). Called the company and never got a called back. They will charge you over $1,000 for a clogged hose watch out! I called for central air service and I spoke with Jim. I explained that my air was blowing but it was hot. When I asked him to hold on one minute because my husband was asking something. Jim said to me "what is wrong with you people?". I was completely thrown off by his rude comment I replied to him that I couldn't hear two people speaking at the same time. I wish that I could give them 0 stars. I got thoroughly ripped off, and I am bitterly disappointed. I don't have a lot of experience with A/C and furnace issues. I naively and foolishly trusted that this company was going to at least be in the same ballpark as other local companies. I trusted my gut and didn't sign up for any additional services or maintenance plans that they were pushing, but since we urgently needed our air conditioning running again, I paid the man. It ended up being more than double what I should have reasonably spent. In the end I spent $658 for an easy fix. When I spoke to them immediately after, they said they just charge a flat fee whether it takes them 10 minutes or all day, that I was paying for the "knowledge and level of service they provide." The service man who came to my house said this was his "fourth cooling season". He diagnosed and fixed the problem in about 30 minutes. Later I found out you can buy a capacitor for about $25. They charged me $525. The service man also said that he hears "price objections" all the time. When my husband called later, the manager was disrespectful and told my husband that he had no idea about these systems or what it takes to run this business. What a complete joke this company is. I needed a quote for a gas leak (naturally you call several places in this scenario). booked a service call the next day and gave them my card info. I was able to get someone the SAME DAY and called back and canceled. Talked to Leslie, who has terrible customer service skills. Because i said the wrong name (accidentally called them roman electric who i just hung up with) when i canceled my appointment, they won't issue a refund. no one was put out or ever came to my house. Since i did actually call to cancel and no one showed up and i told them later that day that when they called to verify that i had it handled, they should not charge me. My mom and I scheduled an appointment with them for the next Monday, making sure to tell them it was not a rush job. They quoted me $149 to come out Monday. That Friday I get a call saying they're 15 minutes away. I told him I could've sworn we had scheduled for Monday. He said no, it was Friday. I was confused and told him I had work in two hours, but as long as he could be done by then I didn't really care that it was the wrong day. He hurried off the phone with me and showed up at my house, asking about my nonfunctional A/C unit. I told him no, it was clearly functioning (my house was cold) but that it was making a sound and needed checking over. I asked about the cost of the visit just to make sure they weren't charging me the rush fee of $199. They were. I told him I was quoted $149 and he called the office and they Corrected it and gave me the $149 price. He then looked at my furnace for 10 seconds and told me he didn't hear a sound, but if there was one it wasn't worth fixing because it was old. I asked what it could be. He said it was probably the "blower." I inquired further and he said it wouldn't be worth it to replace as my furnace was 30 years old. (I had just gotten the main parts of the furnace replaced, so even though the actual furnace was old, the innards were new and working fine besides the whistling noise). He went back upstairs and listened at the vent I told him it was coming from and he didn't hear anything but said it could be anything then, like something in the ducts. Lots of phone calls between my mom (who was really busy), the technician, the office, and me, and nothing was sorted out. My mom asked how much a blower would be and he finally said around $800 but that it's not worth it and I should just get a new furnace then. She asked the price of a furnace and he said it'd be upwards of $4,500 and my mom was confused as to why it wouldn't be worth it to fix it. He said if the heater didn't work we'd find out in fall and would have wasted the money on the new part for the A/C. My mom asked if he could check the heater now then since we were paying for a service call anyway and he hadn't really done much at this point. He said no, he couldn't. They were too busy and it was an A/C day not a furnace day. He said if the furnace turned out to have a bad part in the fall we could pay them to come out then but if it DID have a bad part he'd have to shut it off for good and then I'd HAVE to get a new one. After all this he asked for the payment which I told him I didn't have. He said we had told him it was cash on delivery. I told him I had planned to have the money on Monday when they were scheduled to come out but I couldn't pay him now. He assured me that we were always scheduled for Friday and I said I'd have the money. I told him to just bill me. He said if I didn't have the money "what about your mom?" (My mom wasn't even at the house.) Fed up, I told him to leave my house. He wasn't making any motions to leave so, crying now, I yelled at him that all this was unacceptable and for him to get off my property. I did then apologize for yelling but stood my ground and said he needed to leave and that I didn't have the money right now anyway. He finally left my house, but when I left for work 30-ish minutes after this whole debacle, he was still parked outside my house and had called another person from the company to come out. They were talking beside the two company vehicles. I was already in my ride on my way to work, which I had told them I had to get to, so I don't know why he called in backup. They are probably going to send me a bill for the "services rendered..." or, as I'd call it, the huge inconvenient pain in my butt that accomplished nothing. Honestly? I'd rather not have to pay $149 for nothing. I don't have that kind of money, it's a pandemic and I work part time. SUMMARY: 1 Star because these guys are VERY UNPROFESSIONAL (and I am being generous giving them 1 star). My furnace is older, but I wanted to see if I could get some more life out of it. A technician came out and called me at work to let me know the cost of the repair. The cost was huge, so I asked what parts were going to be needed. At that same moment, I went online to check the parts pricing. Parts were priced online for about 1/5 of what was quoted. When I questioned the cost of the parts and time it would take to install them, the tech. said that Doug would call me. Doug was a very arrogant to say the least, so I told him to tell the tech. to leave my property immediately. Doug yelled at me to "Never call BH&C again!" and I haven't!!! Also, the tech. scratched out the serial number of the furnace on the receipt (I agreed to pay for the service call). Again, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL of BH&C! I saved $150.00 by having the balls to question BH&C's pricing and that's after factoring in the second service call that I paid to have the another furnace guy show up. BH&C will take full advantage of you...if you let them! On the plus side, I now have a furnace company that I can trust. UPDATE/Response to Doug Erdmann: I'm not surprised that you would deem my bad review of BH&C as suspect. Anything written about your company that isn't 5 Stars must be suspect! How arrogant of you! For your information, my furnace quit working and my tenant called me. I wanted to see if my old furnace could be repaired for a reasonable price, thus the questions about parts, pricing and labor to repair it. I wanted to see If I could get maybe another 5 - 6 years out of it. Your technician's quote was practically the cost of a new furnace! I asked your tech. if there was someone else that I could speak to about it. That's when you called me. I did not know that you were the owner until you called me and told me so. When you said that you wouldn't budge on the cost to repair my furnace, I felt like I was being taken advantage of and asked you to tell your tech. to leave my property immediately. I have been using Burkhardt since moving to the area (six years ago). I have my heating and cooling tuned up annually, the equipment is so heavily used in the winter, you'd be foolish not to. Every year, it's the same thing, a clean, professional technician comes to my home, answers any questions I have, works efficiently, shares what he sees in the inspection, and leaves the work area as clean as they found it. They made it sound like they were doing me a favor by agreeing to work on my house (Jessica on the phone said - "We're losing money by taking on this job, but we'll do it anyway.") They told me this one week before my renovation project started. Eventually, they called back and said they could do the work. Then on the day of the project, Dean arrived late and then messed up the job completely, placing vents on the ceiling instead of walls and neglecting to install vents in the area they promised. I called and spoke with Horse. Horse agreed to come out a second time to correct the work. I waited over an hour after the time that Horse said he would come to my house. When he did, their estimate tripled - - from $1200 to $3600. I tried to call the company but they kept putting me on hold. They couldn't find a manager for me to speak with. I had a horrible experience with the owner and the technician. My tenants furnace went out, and being after hours , this was the only company to answer. It was the week of below freezing weather and my usual people were on another call. The technican came out and brought his son with him and diagnosed the furnace very quickly saying the motor was shot. He didn't have a new motor so he said he would get one in the morning. He came early even though he was told no one would be there until 8 ( and of course I was charged for that time). Then he put in the new motor and left. My tenant left for work and came back at 6pm to another 40 degree House. I called the technician again and he said it would be a $60 charge just to come out again. I said it wasn't fixed and he should complete his job. I paid $1060.00 to have this furnace "fixed" and it wasn't . He was very rude to me and said that he did fix it and that maybe my tenant should change the filter. Mind you, I'm no furnace expert, but even I know that the filter wouldn't cause a brand new motor to stop working. We go on to argue some more and I decide to have my regular people come in and take a look. In ten min, my contractor blows into a hose and drains some water out and has the furnace running again. He said there was probably no issue with the motor and that it was a clogged line. 2 days without heat and all it was was a clogged line!! He changers me only $75. I talk to Doug the next morning and he is also extremely rude to me, and proceeds to tell me maybe I should teach my tenants how to close doors and windows because houses don't get that cold and also why didn't I just wait till morning and they could have fixed it blah blah and my tenants aren't going to die of I waited (she has pets and a small child) and he had 7 other customers who waited blah blah. He was YELLING at ME for approximately 45 min and said that he was going to work with me but I blew it because I was accusing them of fraud. Which btw I did no such thing o just stated the facts. He said he would call my contractor and call me back. He called the next day and said upon speaking to him they decided it was probably an unrelated issue and he issued me a certificate for free maintenance. No refund whatsoever. Well folks, I had the old motor tested and IT WORKED. It was a clogged line the entire time. Watch out for these people. Either they are extremely incompetent or they are scammers, but either way it was the most ridiculous company I have ever dealt with in my entire career in real estate. My AC went out on me on a Friday night during the weekend of 90+ days. I called my usual HVAC company's emergency # and to this date have not heard from them. I called Burkhardt & someone called me back without 30 minutes. Elliott came to my house Monday night and I couldn't have been more pleased with the service and professionalism. Elliot went above and beyond to get me up & running until my new AC unit can be installed. He even helped me with a blower issue on my furnace that no one else has ever been able to solve. Found that the old furnace in my rental property had a cracked heat exchange and, being 20+ years old, needed to be replaced. Had to get heat in the house right away (WI winter) without leaving a CO risk for the tenants. Doug came out within 30 minutes of calling and gave me a recommendation and quote that lined up with the research I had done. He scheduled the new furnace installation for the next morning and left a few space heaters to get them through the night. The techs (Troy and Bill, I think) came right on time, were very courteous, and completed the work quickly (3 hours!). I was in contact with a few other HVAC companies, but chose Burkhardt because they were the fastest and most responsive. Great experience--I'll be using them again in the future. read more

I will add to the choir here. Burkhardt is all about gouging its customers. My wife called on a Monday for a furnace issue. They said they could come out that day but the emergency diagnostic service call was $199. She said it wasn't an emergency, so they dropped the diagnostic charge to $149. The service person, Kelly, replaced our thermostat and then found that there was a problem with the automatic ignition unit, which we knew was working sporadically. He replaced it for $480 inclusive. When I got home I checked the price of the unit online. It was under $100. As they say, it's all about the Benjamins for Burkhardt. This may have been a good company twenty-five years ago but now all they care about is gouging their customers. We will not be using them again. read more

I contracted with Burkhardt for the repair of a furnace. They charged for a component part $466.57 that was under warranty. Which did not resolve the issue. They left without the furnace running. I contacted the mfg and they informed me the component was under warranty and should have been no charge. Burkhardt now will only offer a $58.00 Credit for the component and said other was for installation. read more
