New retaining wall
Kenneth R.

Your home is usually your greatest investment. But it's more that a that... it's your home! You live there! You can't expect every contractor to have the same level of care for your home that you do but when you do find that contractor, keep them! Devin worked with us on expanding our old one car driveway to this beautiful two car one. But in our discussions, we told him how we wanted a gate and would likely need a new fence as well. It became clear we would need a new retaining wall to make this happen the way we wanted it to. He was patient and asked the right questions to help us connect the dots for what it would take to finish the project as we imagined. Affordable, on time, courteous and responsive... I hope to work them again!

"Finished" results with incorrect pavers

Mistakes Were Made: We wanted pavers installed to extend the width of our driveway and a trash can pad. 1) Materials: Quality material, however, the wrong pavers were installer. The owner brought paver options to my house so I could chose the paverI wanted (that was good). To be fair, the pavers looked similar, with the main exception being one is textured, the other is smooth. I chose smooth, they installed textured. 2) Installation: Not a fan of the installation method used. They use this method to ensure the pavers don't shift AT ALL. It could work, but my expectation is for pavers be installed flush with the grass and surrounding landscape, not raised. If you prefer raised, I would suggest getting decorative pavers to cover up the exposed concrete. 3) Repair: They were responsive to my concerns and within 3 days uninstalled the pavers and laid sod in the area, per my preference. They were willing to install the original pavers I choose. However, since I'm not a fan of raised pavers, I choose to uninstall. The pros: The workmanship on the project was excellent, they are responsive, they will fix mistakes, dynamic invoicing (every time I Zelled a payment I received an update invoice with the new balance owed) The cons: Extra steps involved: 1) Go over HOW the pavers will be stalled when Kelley comes out and does the site survey to ensure they will be installed to your expectations. 2) When the pavers arrive onsite, look at them immediately to determine they are the pavers you chose. You shouldn't need to do this once a paver is decided on, this is why it's a con. 3) Because the pavers were raised around 10 inches off the ground for the trash can garage going through the gate, they cut the bottom of our gate door, so now the gate door needs replacing or repairing. This project cost us money, not just the required upfront cost, but also in replacing the gate door. The lost money is why this review is a 3 instead of a 4 .

Looks like I'm the first to review Burgess, so huzzah! I have a home that needs a little love and TLC. Probably more than a little if I'm being honest. Some things I can do, some I can't. The retaining wall in my back yard was in sad shape. The wife and I are seriously considering moving in the next year, or so, and thought replacing it would be a simple summer project. When researching the type and cost of materials, pricing out some tools I'd have to buy etc... I realized the cost was going to be much more than I originally thought. At this point I decided to look into hiring someone that actually had experience doing this since the cost was getting comparable of me doing it vs a pro. This is where I turned to Yelp to find contractors that could give me an estimate. Of the three I was put in touch with, Burgess was by far the most responsive. They came out (I believe the next day) to discuss the project, see what my expectations were and give me their estimate. Now keep in mind, I rely heavily on customer reviews when doing most anything online and Burgess had 0 reviews on Yelp. I was a bit apprehensive initially but felt much more comfortable after talking with Devin (and I think his wife). Watching them work gave me a solid impression of their competence and I felt this would be a good company to do business with. While looking into replacing the retaining wall I was simultaneously going through an agonizingly slow process of working through an insurance claim to fix the foundation of the house which had been damaged due to some leaks under the slab. Once Devin have me his quote for the wall I told him I was going to have to wait until I knew what the insurance company determined my out of pocket expenses would be for the foundation. The quote Burgess gave me was more than it would have cost me to do the job myself, obviously, but still very reasonable. Eventually, insurance finished what they needed to do (a month after I initially reached out for quotes) and I let Devin know I was ready to move forward with Burgess replacing the retaining wall. After a brief delay due to weather, they came out and completed the job in one day when it was initially expected to take two (he pulled some extra help from jobs that were still to wet to be worked on). Devin was extremely flexible on scheduling and the price. I had a very easy time communicating, mostly via text messaging. They're a local, family owned business and made the entire process as smooth as possible. Although I don't see myself needing the services of a landscaping company very often in my future, Burgess will definitely be the people I turn to first when I do!

Think Twice Before Hiring Groundworks…read more I hesitated to write this review because, to be fair, Groundworks has some genuinely good employees -- I met a few and appreciated their professionalism. But this review isn't about the people. It's about the company itself. A few months ago, I hired Groundworks for foundation repair. The total cost? $20,000. A serious investment, but one I believed was necessary. Before the work began, I had Air & Drain Works perform a hydrostatic test to check for plumbing leaks. The results came back clean -- no issues. After Groundworks completed the foundation lift, Air & Drain Works returned for a post-test. That's when the trouble started. The lifting process had caused a leak. A costly one. The repair estimate? Over $10,000. I reached out to Groundworks multiple times, hoping for some accountability or at least a conversation. Nothing. No returned calls. No follow-up. It's amazing how responsive they are when they're trying to win your business -- and how silent they become when you need help after the fact. So here's my advice: if you're considering foundation work, look elsewhere. Find a company that stands by their work after the job is done -- especially when their actions lead to expensive consequences. If this review makes even one person reconsider, then maybe Groundworks will realize that ignoring customers after the check clears isn't a sustainable business model.

His crew was respectful, hardworking, and showed great attention to detail throughout the entire process. The project was completed on time, and they went above and beyond to make sure everything was done right. If you're looking for a reliable concrete contractor for patios, driveways, or any concrete work, I highly recommend Ricardo and his team. It's hard to find this level of dedication and service these days. I will definitely be calling them again for future projects.

I had 5 contractors come to my house to bid the job. They came and looked at the job, but they never called back and never responded with a quote. They ghosted me. Then I called Affordable Concrete & Construction. Ricardo came, inspected the job, and offered me a quote on the spot. I was impressed by his knowledge and professionalism. The bid was significantly lower than the ONE other bid I received. Ricardo and his crew did a great job--we are so happy with the results. I highly recommend Affordable Concrete & Construction.
