I met Dr. Burgess's daughter, (Dr. Madeline or maybe Dr. Mags??), on a recent (and first) visit to this dentistry. Simply AMAZING. From the moment I arrived the receptionist staff was professional and courteous and this held true through the entire visit which included a scheduled broke tooth getting fixed and a un-scheduled cavity fix, which was a huge surprise as the visit itself was made in 2 days from when I called to schedule the broke tooth issue. I've been going to Dr Burgess for dental work for about thirty years. He is the best dentist I've ever been to. He is very personable and takes time to talk to you and take interest in you as a person and not just a patient. Dr Burgess has taken care of my entire family and we couldn't be happier. His office is uniquely decorated with modern decor that makes you feel like your at home and not in a dentist office. Did I mention his staff? He has the best staff working there. I have always used Yelp to help me find whatever I needed and usually I am not let down. When I moved down to West Virginny I found out Yelp is not as useful anymore. I finally find myself with dental insurance so I decided to finally see a dentist after over seven years. I go to trusty Yelp search for dentist in Charleston WV. Only one dentist has been reviewed and he has only one review. I contact the office of Dr. Burgess and the lady who answers the phone is funny and playful the on phone. After I explain to her about my neglected teeth and crack a few jokes we set up an appointment for the next week. I have to say I was very nervous walking to my appointment, I was afraid they would have to pull all my teeth and yell at me for going so long with out seeing a dentist. Once I walked in, there office is in a amazing building, and the lady at the desk was very nice and gave me my papers to fill out. After filling out a stack of forms an attractive woman in scrubs comes to get me. The dental area was very clean and modern looking (another perk was all the woman were good looking and smiling). By this point my dental fears are almost all gone. The lady cleaning my teeth was not only attractive, but also very friendly. She had the common courtesy to take her tools out of my mouth after asking me a question to let me answer. I found out that there are two dentists who work here Dr. John and his daughter. I had the pleasure of seeing his daughter. She ended up being the lady who set up my appointment the week before. She was just as nice and friendly as the rest of the staff. She checked out my teeth, explained what i needed to have done, and never once yelled at me for going so long with out a check up. I have always dreaded going to the dentist, but I am actually looking forward to going back in a few weeks. Thank you for making my dental fears go away! read more

Deeply impressed with this business. We'll start at the beginning: I called around to a few different dentists that are on my insurance network trying to get an appointment and most of the receptionists were frankly unpleasant. Sherry, the receptionists here, was very sweet and helped me squeeze in on short noticed. When I got to the office (located in the lovely Daniel Boone building) I was greeted pleasantly and given my paperwork to fill out. (Really comfy seats on a balcony type area above the lobby of the Daniel Boone, so you got to listen to the fountain and look around. Quite classy.) To my mortification, I'd forgotten my dental insurance card, but Sherry assured me she had the number on file and took care of that for me. Amanda was my dental hygienist and she was friendly, informative, and took her hands out of my mouth when she wanted a response to a question or comment. She was also good about not jabbing or catching my gums with any of the tools. I only saw Dr Burgess himself for a few minutes, but he did a thorough check, talked to me about what all was going on, and asked me if I had questions. Very nice gentleman. read more

First if all, excuse the three stars. I like Dr. Burgess and his staff. They were my dentist for almost ten years. I found them to be competent, pleasant, efficient, pain free and all around good folks. Were it not for sloppy Covid 19 procedures and lack of precautions the rating would easily be five stars. Here's what I encountered, I had phoned a few days in advance and asked about their Covid precautions. I specifically ask could I wait in my car until the hygienist was ready for me and was told that would be no problem. I phoned from the car and was told to come right in as they were ready. I waited over thirty minutes in the waiting room along with five or six others most of which were not wearing masks. When the hygienist came to get me she wasn't wearing a mask. After I got in the chair I ask her to put on a mask and she did. I assume she would have put on a mask eventually. While I was in the chair a woman came in without a mask. When ask would she put a mask on, she left but told me it was OK because she was holding her breath. There was more but I've made my point and don't wish to belabor this issue. When the Covid issue is over I would not hesitate to go to this office. read more
