This time my review is not about food quality, although my husband defines the place as second best burger joint after The Bird. It's about the unique spot. The place is located at the start of Kreuzberg right on Schlesisches Tor. It's a green ornate iron... toilet. It used to be a toilet a century ago. But it still has a Männer sign near the ordering window. And it's the most beautiful ex-toilet I've ever seen. Go for the best toilet burger! In terms of fame the place can be compared to Mustafa's Gemüsedöner, so be prepared to survive a long line, but these are not tourists, but party animals of Kreuzberg. Sorry bros, on a scale of 1-10, I'd have to say this is pretty low on the totem scale. Observe: I had JUST arrived back into town from Barcelona and was DYING for something American, as in, GREASY, SALTY and CHEESY. I wanted a burger! I had already tried Hamburger Heaven, Berlin Burger International and Burgermeister was next on the list. My boyfriend and I walk to the spot, order two of the Meister burgers and a side of chili cheese fries, two Cokes. Point #1: It was cheaper than Berlin Burger International. Point #2: Even though my boyfriend and I ordered the EXACT same burgers, mine didn't come with fresh onions, which was odd. Point #3: I should have learned my lesson with the other "barbecue" burgers I've had in Berlin, but Germans don't seem to know what real barbecue sauce is. All in all, Burgermeister didn't really live up to the hype. The meat had lots of gristle in it, the barbecue sauce was funky, and the chili fries were sloppy and not in a good way. Burgermeister is one of those must sees when visiting Kreuzberg, or X-berg like the locals say it, especially before or after going to a club. It's located at the popular metro stop of X-berg and there are always a lot of people. But it is totally worth it. So they serve burgers, also a tofu option, and chili fries. It can't get anymore basic than that. The venue is a grungy booth underneath the U-bahn bridge. If you didn't know it was a famous burger place, you wouldn't even look at it. That's probably the beauty of it. It really reflects the neighborhood. You have to know from a local that it's good or you won't find it. The burgers are superb, and when I say superb I am not exaggerating. The bun are soft on the inside but warm and crispy on the outside because they put them on the grill. We've heard about this place F-O-R-E-V-E-R and just haven't gone. We are literally living 5 min away & still hadn't made it over to that jammin little station of green. And the bun- that's no roll. Excellent options of BBQ sauce, onions, and jalapenos. And not the usual Berlin BBQ sauce, real spicy sweet. I did love the place. Tiny and fenced in for wintertime cold, it was a bit claustraphobic, but I loved the smells trapped with us and the old school G rap. Is that "Nothing but a G thang"?! On our walk back to the U-Bahn from the East Side Gallery we decided to stop here to refuel ourselves. Now, when I was there it was snowing so there wasn't much space because they didn't have the outside eating area. Slightly out of the way & on a traffic island, this burger joint is really good. It was recommended to me by a local who was working on a job with me. I had trouble finding it at first but then followed the delicious smell right to the front of the line. A good burger with a healthy portion of fries at a reasonable cost. The staff spoke English very well and it was easy to get a cab back to our hotel from this location. If you're in the area and want a quick burger this is a good spot. I'm not 100% sure but I believe this structure used to be a public toilet that was converted into a burger grill... Is that right? legit burger spot here in Berlin! i loved it here so much that during my week long stay, i ate here twice haha. first, the location is super cute and convenient if you're anywhere a U-Bahn station. after you exit the Schlesisches Tor station, walk down the stairs and look across the street and Burgermeister is right there located under the tracks! i ate here during the winter so while it is outdoor dining only, they do put up plastic covers to make it a tent for some warmth. first time i went here, it was for a late lunch on a weekday so i didnt have any lines...then the 2nd time was on a weekend for lunch and what a difference that made! the line moved decently fast though and from standing in line to getting our food took us like 20ish min. as for the food itself, while the menu isnt exactly in English, a lot of these words are fully recognizable so ordering shouldn't be too difficult if you don't know German...plus the staff was really helpful and spoke English. went with the standard cheeseburger both times and its just so good - lots of texture, freshness and flavor with all the ingredients. oh and its served in the cutest holder so taht you canput down your burger in between bites and it stands upright! your burger won't fall over and all the fillings wont fall out haha...also would highly recommend the chili cheese fries - good ol' nacho cheese and chili on top of some steak fries...down it all with a bier and you're set for a great meal and its affordable at that! probably less than 10 euros for burger, fries and a drink. a must visit when in Berlin! read more

It gets pretty crowded and there are just a few tables around, but you can always grab a seat with friends you just haven't met yet. The burger is a hefty boy and tastes like Germany's version of In N Out. A perfectly cooked beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, special sauce all unified by a toasty bun.
