Meze is a tricky business. On the one hand, one exceptionally good dish can leave you raving about…read morethe restaurant and skimming over its more mediocre offerings; on the other, there are so many dishes that it's very easy for one or two of them to be a bit disappointing. However, luckily, the chefs at The Green Olive know what they're doing, and as the dishes begin to arrive (at the perfect pace), each one proves to be a delight to the eye and the palate. Particularly good are the olives; the taramasalata; the filo pastry cheese parcels; the tabouli; the swordfish souvlaki; the spiced sausage; and the chunky fried potatoes. There is a lot of food in the £17/head evening meze, so meze for two is usually enough for three. You can also build your own menu (a rather more expensive option) or supplement the set meze with the odd extra dish from the menu. The staff are friendly and lighthearted, and are very willing to explain dishes and recommend wines and other accompaniments. Unfortunately, most of the desserts are very sweet, honey-laced Greek confections, and the fruit salad, although generously proportioned, can be a bit on the unripe side. That said, you might not have room for dessert, and the coffee is excellent. The premises are clean and bright, and I found the bathroom in immaculate condition. All in all, a great night out, especially if you've never tried meze before and you want to have a go at something new.

It has beer so that's a win and lots of old style photographs. Roomy with huuuge menu selection, my eyes ran wild with delight. There were so many options, I almost got a little nervous deciding between them. (Too much selection makes my head spin). Modelled after the eateries of New York, there are burgers and hot wraps, and salads, and hot dogs, and just a ton of appetizers. And sometimes, this American girl needs the option of a hot dog. Sometimes you just gotta have a hot dog. It's on my 'to-eat' list for next time. I finally settled on the New Yorker Calzone, which was fantastic and HUGE. Very American portion sizes. And while most calzones I get are quite crusty and sometimes overbaked on top, this was was almost omelette-thin. The inside was meaty (Pepperoni, ham, bacon) and the Neopolitan sauce was great. Yum Yum Yum.

The starters range from £3.25 to £5.95 and then you have the choice from platters, pizzas, pasta, burgers, steaks, chicken in fact there is quite a large choice and something to suite every taste. The staff are helpful and efficient and its definitely worth a trip if you are in the area and are hungry!

Being the only American themed restaurant in guildford it is always busy especially in the evenings. You might find you need to reserve a table if you happen to be in a large group (+4) The food is great, with a great variety of dishes from ribs to vegetable quesadillas, the menu provides for EVERYONE! I absolutely love the atmosphere in TGIs the staff are so friendly and are happy to help whenever. The scenery is also fantastic, adding more of a story to your meal. The best time to go to TGIs is on a someone's birthday, you will get a complimentary slice of cake (although by the time you've filled up on your main you will have to force it down :D) and a cute balloon hat made by the waiter right in front of you, mean while all the staff gather round and sing to you, great experience, rather embarrassing, but so much fun. TIP: If you like burgers may I recommend the French Canadian; best burger you will find in guildford.

I'd suggest Byron Hamburger's instead, a couple of minutes up the high street. To be fair it is a popular choice for kids and families. Also in other news they do have a good selection of cocktails as well. So, go somewhere else to eat and come here afterwards for a couple of tasty cocktails.

Only let…read moredown were the fries which were cooked perfectly but smothered in enough salt to make them inedible, and the brioche- taken literally burger bun which was too sweet, soft and buttery for this burger (this was not a biggie though- I ate it aalll!) I was really disappointed not to get the mojito I ordered because "it wasn't the time for them". There was no time specified on the menu and it was 7.30 on a Friday night. I don't know what the real reason was (maybe short staffed and didn't have time to grind ice manually? Out of mint? ) I can understand those reasons but hopefully it's not that they just don't know how to make them because that's ridiculous. The server also mistook my veg burger for a steak burger and looked annoyed with US when she was trying to find out who they were for. Small mistake, but know what food you are carrying and don't get annoyed with the guest when you've got it wrong. I'll be back though- I don't like complaining, but I'm mentioning these things that really got to me in the hope that someone there reads them and fixes the can't-do attitude. Because they seriously downed my first visit here. The food saved the day.

The chips are steak fries, super thick and really cooked well. Some soft some are crispy. The wine was ok, although they couldn't understand my American accent and I couldn't h set stand theirs so I ordered a wine less complicated to pronounce. It was ok, a white Pinot Grigio. The ambiance is loud and lively. Someone will likely tap you on the shoulder to chat, but there are quiet nooks to grab a table if you want to eat in more seclusion. I enjoyed the loud bar and the rugby games playing in the background. But really the fish was fresh and the beer batter is sooo good. If I didn't care about my weight I would eat here a couple times a week!
