However, every time I searched or asked about a place to try, Dairy Treet came up. The original location was not far from my hotel so I stopped just to try the ice cream and fries to see what all the hype was about. Well, I get it!! The ice cream had such an authentic milk flavor to it and was the perfect consistency and flavor, you can tell they've been serving it up exactly the same from day one. It was so good, in fact, I went back the very next day to try more! The steak fingers weren't the typical texture and fry you see on most, but felt more like a Salisbury steak (in a great way) and the gravy was the star of the show. Top off the food with a vibe that sets you right back to the 50's with the lovely architecture and tunes playing while you wait/eat - Dairy Treet is a treat for sure! First off, we received the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa! Wow! Definitely made there, not out of a jar. It is very chunky but the flavor is amazing! It is different from any I have had before. It a little bite that builds as you go. I would buy this for the house if I could. We each had different dishes. Everything was very nicely done. The meats were your normal meats but super tasty and very well cooked. The sauces were very flavorful. The place itself is nice. It is country, nothing fancy. But comfortable. Big, bold, and done right--twice. This last visit I dove into a crispy shrimp po' boy with hand-cut fries, fried green beans, and fried okra that took me straight to grandma's Sunday table. Everything was fresh, seasoned, and hot--nothing sat under a heat lamp. The bread on that po' boy had just the right chew, and those shrimp were the real deal, not that frozen nonsense. This ain't some corporate chain menu--it's a local spot with heart, consistency, and Texas-sized portions that respect your plate and your pocket. I'm not here to argue ingredients with folks--I'm here for good food and good people, and Double J's keeps showing up with both. Support your hometown joints. Double J's deserves the love.

Ordered a Freddy's original with lettuce & tomato (must ask for it otherwise only comes with pickles, onions & mustard). NO cheese please due to my dietary restrictions. My husband ordered the Prime steak burger, comes with grilled onions & mushrooms and he added grilled jalapeños. The service was quick and friendly. Well, my burger had cheese and I didn't realize until it was too late, like more than several bites in. Oh well too late. It was really good with the lettuce & tomato I will order again this way. Without cheese of course. My husband said the grilled onions on his burger were bitter, and there might have been two grilled jalapeño slices on his burger. It was also a little on the salty side. French fries were cooked perfectly. Love the shoe string fries next time I'll get a larger size order of fries. Total cost for two burger meal deals with one mini custard was $34.00. Main reason for the four-star.
