Drive through experience I always have a good experience at Buona. I am a vegetarian/pescatarian so I usually go to Buona for the meatless sandwich. I ordered through the drive through and the person who took my order was extremely nice & helpful. My food wasn't ready immediately so I had to wait a bit around the corner (curbside) while they prepared my sandwich & kids pizza. It took about 5-8 mins for my food to be ready and they delivered it to me at the curb. My food is always hot and fresh. Buona Beef is the most disorganized restaurant ever. Why two "place your order" stations when there is only one lane? Why are people waiting for an order to be filled be allowed to block the exit for a customer who already received his order? Why does it take so long to get an order? When 3 different people carry out orders to the cars, seems like whoever is handy does it. Nobody is assigned to that job? Why do they get the order wrong so often? I would leave a 5-star but I feel this location has a bit of inconsistency. Sometimes they stack the beef up nicely.. other times it's underwhelming. Sometimes when I ask for hot giardiniera I get so much hot giardiniera + those spicy seeds that my mouth is on fire and I can't finish the sandwich. Sometimes it's nicely wet with the juice and sometimes it's a little dry. My advice would be to work on uniformity and consistency through increased training and rewarding. read more

here in their hometown of Chicago similar to a portillo's the Buona family as I should say while on the more regional level have about 25 locations in Chicago most of them are usually all set up the same way and really well. I don't know if every one has beer and wine though. the few that I do freak went the one near my house in Palos and also the one outside of Darien Illinois do. Buona has expanded a lot of their menu they have a lot more things other than just beef and sausage which makes it really nice. this one near my house on Friday has a special on Fridays half off by bottles of beer can't beat that buck and a quarter. this one is a smaller dining room by some of their standards but it does get a lot of business they have an outside dining too I'm not an outside person but hey if you are good. on this particular visit I came in I had got the regular size 7-in classic Italian beef baptized what baptizes is it's dipped into the natural juices and it's a soggy sandwich that's an authentic Chicago beef folks. I didn't get any Jarred in there but I did get the sweet peppers they had some nice red juicy sweet peppers and I got French fries with no salt and I also had the cup of cheese on the side to dip them in. it was done in a very timely manner the dining room was very clean there were many people dining inside social distance practice gloves and masks worn by all drive-thru was slammed and outside on the patio this is a very for a smaller Buona it's very busy. I'm starting to like Buona a little more than portillo's it used to be vice versa, but I'm not afraid to say it seems like portillo's is getting more gimmicky. and they're not really taking the time because Dick Portillo doesn't oversee it anymore he sold it off that's one of the sad parts at least. for now the Buona family still owns and overseas all of their operations. so all in all an excellent visit to this one it's good to know the one near my house when I got to go do some banking nearby cruise on in if I didn't have to go back on the road probably have me a cold one but keep up the good work at this small one. read more

Pretty good italian beef chain that just added a store in Orland Park. Compared to Al's Italian Beef from the old Taylor Street neighborhood - which is a major competitor with franchisees out in the southwest of Chicago - Buona is sort of peppery. There was not a lot of distinctive italian seasoning taste to the beef. It was nice and tender, and tasted pretty good. We ordered it dipped - meaning dunked in the sauce - and it came out not so dipped. Maybe one has to order double-dunked or something. The fires were meh - sliced and cut with no potato skins and barely fried. They could have been fried a bit crisper, and we sort of like them when there are parts of the skins on ... so these were just fair. The melted cheese for the cheese fries is simply warmed Velveeta ... warm but sort of bland - there was no kick to it. But I think the lack of kick seems to apply to everything - the fries and the beef. They just didn't have that oomph to make them distinctive. This new store is directly across the street from Carl Sandburg High School and we suspect that is their main clientele. The store will do allright here, and it is a beautiful layout. They have a lot of room and seating, and even have outdoor patio seating. They serve beer and wine for those that are interested - but will probably be very careful since they are so near the high school. read more

Wow this place has the best service I've ever had anywhere. Literally. They were so nice I was floored. Food? Amazing. I ordered the Caesar salad and a pizza. My family got the classic beef sandwiches, my grandparents had a chicken sandwich and a salad and my boyfriend had a burger which was HUGE. He ordered a double on accident -it was so big. It took less than 10 minutes for all of our good to get to our table and there were 7 of us! Because of the set up of the restaurant (you order and seat yourself and they bring you your food) we were comfortable hanging out at the table just talking for hours -Something we would never consider doing at a regular restaurant. I can't say enough good things. They are a family restaurant chain but the service is crazy good. I hope they continue to see lots of growth. Buona could very well be the pride of Chicagoland.
