I stumbled across Bunjour Bakery's macarons on Instagram and immediately fell in love with their character designs. My son is obsessed with Star Wars and when they released the May 4th character set, I decided it was the perfect occasion to try them out. Payment was easy (Zelle) and response was prompt. They also offered free delivery, so within about an hour ordering, we had a gorgeous (but more importantly delicious) set of Star Wars macarons + plus some Samoa flavor for Mama ;) The cookies had a great texture and the filling was really tasty. The character set came with a mix of flavors (though I couldn't remember which was which), but I think it was the birthday cake flavor that I loved the most. Their Macarons look like Honey Butter Macarons that specialize in character macarons except they had a full stack of them (didn't run out) and were priced at $2.75, plus you get a free one if you check in and buy two macarons. Um, yes please! I hate that Honey Butter rarely has the characters in stock or more than two at a time. Here, their display featured at least six character macarons! I bought beaty and the beast, and got a free matcha macaron. They lean sweeter so it's good for people who do NOT have to watch their sugar intake. I saw that they also have vegan macarons (on Instagram) which, hello, is so hard to make since macarons are almost all almond flour + eggs + sugar. major props to them being able to pull that off and have it look as good as the regular macarons. Edit: Went there again two weeks later and bought the pikachu w party hat for the Pokémon anniversary and chikorita with snickerdoodle filling. I came again to the Laguna Hills Farmers Market to try some ganache cookies this time. Ethan had messaged me after my last visit and told me that their ganache cookies weren't as sweet at their buttercream filling. Their ganaches are made from bittersweet chocolate and have no added sugar. When I got to the stand Ethan recognized me right away and recommended some macarons to try. I also got a couple of character macarons to give to my Cousin for her birthday that weekend. She loves sweets. Ethan boxed up my macarons for me and I stored them in my fridge until the next day at my Cousin's birthday party. My Cousin loved the macarons. I tried the hazelnut macaron with chocolate ganache. I found this place on Instagram because they make lots of cute character macarons (French artisan sandwich cookies). I came here especially for the Pusheen the Cat macarons that they do here from time to time. Sadly they did not have Pusheen when I went, but instead we got Star Wars ones that were very adorable. Next time I will call them to see if they have Pusheen macarons before I go. Even without my favorite cat, the macarons we ate were very delicious and pretty thick. They are priced at around $3/4 and the character designs are a dollar more. Saw the reviews on Yelp and headed to the Pengo Drink Station hoping to get some Pusheen macarons for my daughter's birthday. By the time I went, they were out of all characters, but I asked the girls at the register if there was any way I could custom order some. They gave me the business card for Bunjour and I sent off a quick email. I contacted them on a Tuesday, with a party on Saturday, so I knew my chances of getting what I wanted were slim. Ethan was so friendly, helpful and quick. He emailed back right away and said that although custom orders require a week's advanced notice, he would be able to get me some Pusheens they had already made up. The invoicing was handled online, and the pickup at Pengo was easy. They had my box set aside and waiting when I arrived. The whole process was very convenient and quick. Ethan is very responsive in answering emails and also very accommodating. They are the cutest macarons and the cookie dough flavored filling was a hit with all of the recipients. I really like Honey & Butter but Bunjour Bakery is just as good! I saw the Neko Atsume macarons Rachelle made a few months ago and I knew I just had to order a batch for myself. They are sooooo cute! I arranged to pick up my order on a day it rained so unfortunately the farmer's market where she had the booth set up that day was cancelled. I love macarons. Since, I first tried a 'Lette macaron over 10 years ago, I have been hooked on these French treats. I have sampled many since then and I would classify myself as an addict. My absolute favorites are 'Lette, Rocq Macarons (available at Whole Foods), Richart, Layer Cake and now those from Bunjour Bakery. I first tried Bunjour Bakery macarons at the Irvine Farmer's Market where I met one of the owners. He told me that he and his wife make their macarons out of their home kitchen in South Orange County. He also told me that their macarons where sold at Pengo Drink Station in Laguna Hills, which I am a big fan of also, so I told him I would check them out there. Pengo has a portion of their counter devoted to Bunjour's macarons. There are traditional, regular macarons and various character ones. These macarons are not all just about being attractive or cute. They really do taste fantastic, also. The flavors I have had have been awesome. A great amount of care and detail are put into these. I was told that the cookies in the cookie dough ones were even homemade before incorporating into the macarons. I really enjoyed the Raspberry Rose flavor with both of those flavors being tastily detected in one macaron. The character ones are so cute, and again, delicious, also. I have had vanilla bean and chocolate-flavored character ones such as Pusheen, Pikachu and R2-D2. They make great gifts for macaron-loving friends, also. I love that I can stop into Pengo Drink Station and get one of my favorite drinks there and also now purchase some Bunjour Macarons. I hate macarons. BUT the moment I bit into THESE macarons, they changed my life. I have never had a dessert that completely embodied the flavor description it claims because all of the fillings are homemade. The strawberry macaron tastes like real strawberries, and they make their own Oreos for the Cookies and Cream macarons. You cannot go wrong with any flavor because you're going to taste the exact flavor profile of your chosen macaron. After I tried two flavors (Strawberry and Cookies and Cream), I drove an hour round-trip just to get one of each flavor because they are THAT good. These macarons will absolutely melt in your mouth. These macarons are the most amazing that I have tasted since I sat on the steps outside the Place de la Madeleine in Paris eating macarons from Ladurée (where macarons originated). No exaggeration. Bunjour Bakery has managed to perfect the macaron with the perfect balance of almond flour, egg white and sugar. They are crisp on the outside but sweet and soft when bitten. They almost literally melt in your mouth. The fillings are all made from scratch and extremely delicious. Vanilla filling tastes like a luxurious vanilla bean buttercream. Chocolate Hazelnut filling tastes like freshly melted chocolate hand-blended with crushed hazelnuts. Seriously, Nutella has nothing on this filling. The Green Tea filling is made with Matcha imported from Japan. There are no shortcuts taken with these delicious macarons. They are made with dedicated skill using high quality ingredients. I saw they did custom macarons so I submitted a custom order of Togepi macarons, since Togepi is my friend's favorite Pokémon. They were so helpful throughout the whole process, especially when I needed to change the delivery day. On the day of delivery, I had seen that there was an additional box included, aside from my order. I was curious but I didn't open it, since it was going to be a surprise for my friend. After delivering the macarons to my friend, he told me that it was a Togekiss macaron that was in the small box. I stopped by the booth at Irvine Farmer's Market. Asked the worker what their best macaron was. He stated it was banana cream, so I got one of those. I was pleased he gave a specific answer instead of just saying they are all good, which is not helpful. Also ordered a chocolate and a sea salt carmel. All were good with distinctive flavors you would expect. Outer cookie was crisp, and the inner cookie was chewy. Appropriate amount of filling in the middle. Back to the inner cookie portion, I've read French macarons are supposed to have some chew. I haven't had a lot of experience with macarons but these were probably the chewiest I've had. Though I am pretty sure everything was cooked. It was definitely better than having a completely crisp cookie. I'll have to research others and can update the review if needed if I find otherwise. Pricing was $2 for each regular macaron. They also sell very cute character macarons for $3, did not buy any of those, but they had a special promotion of free mini Pika with purchase for their one year anniversary. Bonus points for that. Also each macaron is already individually packaged and the worker just put my order together in a bag, though they did appear to have nice boxes for larger orders. And plenty of flavors to choose from though one was gone by the time I got there around 11 am (Irvine farmer's market hours 8-12). Check their website for varying hours and locations during the week.
