Met up with a friend here for coffee! I'm pretty indecisive when figuring out what I want...especially in coffee shops. The worker there was SUPER nice and helpful! They really know their menu so that was pretty awesome! I tried the latte w/ whole milk and, although pretty standard, it satisfied my needs for caffeine that day. Everything is pretty decently priced so I'm definitely going to try and come back here more often! read more

Bump 'n Grind - Latte w/ whole milk - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

Delicious pour-overs that go down smooth. It's nice to find an interesting coffee spot in MD. I also tried their cortado, which was a tad too gritty/bitter for my taste (but it could've been my swap for soy). They also serve a flat white and latte/mocha variations. The food options are limited to a few mini burritos and egg sandwiches to munch on in the morning. It's a hip space but not crazy hipsta. I was afraid it would be too gimicky or trying too hard (the music focus is actually inclusive vs. snobby :); a fun place to learn about new artists/albums while relaxing); it's clean, open with plenty of natural lighting. Diverse crowd, too. Love the full glass window walls and soft experimental tunes streaming in the background. Excited to see what music events they'll host in the future. Street parking is very limited; look carefully or else you'll be relegated to pricier office/garage parking, which is not in short supply in that area. read more

i've been here twice and have been able to find meter parking. there is a parking garage nearby but i have been lucky enough to find great street parking so i cannot say anything about the garage parking or how convenient it is. this coffee shop/cafe is soooooooo cute! very trendy. very west coast-ish coffee vibe! loveeee! it's coffee meets music. if you go on their website there is a list of the times and dj's playing. music can be a little loud so you might want to bring a set of headphones if it gets too loud. they seem to sell and support a lot of local businesses. they sell sticky finger desserts (cookies and brownies) and also have runningbyrd tea. they have sandwiches and burritos brought in by other local vendors. they also have salads and other drinks and desserts like muffins and cheesecakes :) they also sell wine and beer. it's a very cool place!!! the chai tea latte is not to strong. the spices are light and pair well with the sweets! the hot chocolate is really good and i don't think you need additonal sweetener. it's more of a dark chocolate hot chocolate. it is rich but light and not too dark. they have rishi tea and they tell you seep the tea bag for about 3 mins. and then to drink the tea. if you are planning on staying and doing work then you can go back to them with your tea bag and empty cup and they will refill your cup with hot water so you can get two cups of tea instead of one because that tea bag will give you more than one cup! make sure you do not seep the tea bag in the cup for too long because it can get too dark and bitter. they also sell vinyl records! :) bathrooms are also very clean! service is great! the owners are super friendly and are more than willing to help you out with everything. today (1/31/15) i came in and got a few of the sticky finger desserts and Joe, one of the owners, said that the shelf life is still good, but since they are getting in a new shipment of sticky fingers on monday that he would give us 20% off on the desserts because it is not as fresh as it should be! how great is that! i think this is such a great addition to the dmv area and wish it was closer to my house than downtown silver spring. i hope the service and quality of everything stays the same or gets better! :) read more

SUPER NERDY COFFEE! If the nerd effort put into preparing your coffee is important to you - come to Bump & Grind! Their cold brew is great, their lattes are great (but no flavors coughNERDcough), their pour coffee (market price) is imported, made by hand over a 10-minute time period by a barista in an authentic cycling cap! They also throw in some other stuff, like a coffee table stacked with books about coffee so you can get EVEN NERDIER about your coffee while you sit on one of two super-low couches enjoying (or waiting for) your nerdy coffee. There's a whole corner devoted to DJ stuff like records and record players. They sell beer and wine just for the heck of it. There's like a huge mural with like 40 little dudes that are half-duck and half-coffee cup. The lightbulbs are hand-made by rebel Amish or something - I think they're called artisans. I go back occasionally when I'm in the mood for nerdy coffee. read more

Really cute coffee cafe in silver spring! There's street parking available as well as a public parking across the street! I love the spacious, chill and cozy atmosphere. There are window seats, sofas, and tables for group settings! They sell coffee, tea as well as wine and beer (I'm assuming for lunch/dinner time). I've tried their latte as well as their Guatemala hot coffee. It was perfect! The staff are pretty friendly and helpful when I asked for recommendations. Overall, a great place to hang out with friends, study, read, etc! read more

This place was PACKED. Came around 1pm on a Saturday. Midday and almost half the pastries were gone. I'm surprised they didn't have more to restock. However, the barista was super nice! Parking isn't great. Had to find street parking. I love the vibe of this place. Just a nice little cafe! Giving it 4 stars because I feel like they could have more options for seating. read more

Bump 'n Grind - My sister enjoying her latte. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

My friend and I came to Bump n Grind right after Kaldi's Social House. The two have very different atmospheres. Bump n Grind is more gives off a more hipster vibe. It's brightly lit and gives is more of a relaxed setting. It's quiet so it would be a good place to come read a book and study. There is plenty of seating. There's street parking around and also a parking garage that you have to pay for. We ordered a 16oz Toasted Almond Tea and it was SO GOOD. It's loose leaf tea served in a tea pot. It's a light rose color and has a cinnamon spice smell. The aroma is stronger than the taste which is light and sweet with hints of the spices. I'll have to try the coffee next time. read more

Such a solid coffee place in Silver Spring. They get their beans for expresso from Vigilante (in Hyattsville/DC) and their pour overs from Ceremony (Annapolis/Baltimore based) so you know its local, which is pretty rad. Their selection of craft brews are awesome too. They have a lot from local breweries like Jailbreak and DC Brau. The drink variety is awesome, so if you're a coffee or beer snob, you'll totally appreciate this spot. The environment is ridiculously comfortable. They have the comfiest couches next to the coolest freaking coffee table made out of 7" vinyls. There are loads of tables and outlets too. Their wifi is ridiculously fast and free which makes doing work there a breeze. There is always amazing music playing and the ambiance is just very relaxing. The place itself is pretty spacious, where I feel like I can breathe while drinking whatever beverage while working. Bottom line, this place is great. Super stoked Silver Spring has pulled through with a solid coffee place. I've only wait my entire life for it, but its fiiine. read more

Bump 'n Grind - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

Best new coffee shop in Silver Spring. Super chill spot to come and meet friends or to study. There are plenty of small two-person tables, a few couches, and lots of bar seating around the perimeter, perfect for studying and people watching. Coffee is top-notch, although at night they only offer a fancy, expensive, slow-drip coffee. They also sell beer, wine, and food. read more

Not super impressed with Bump 'n Grind. I've been working remotely these days, so my judgment of a coffee shop has started including more things. This place just doesn't meet the basics. Coffee- okay, the cold brew I had was good. Food - the lox bagel special was underwhelming. First, I was given a plate with all the components on it, and I had to put it all together. The amounts of everything were a bit wonky. About a hundred capers in a little cup? Not necessary. About 1/4 of an onion and 4 slices of tomato? Also a bit excessive. A tiny cup of cream cheese? Could have used more. One and a half slices of lox? Take back some of that tomato and onion, and let me have more of what I want. There was nothing bad about this. It tasted fine. It just wasn't ideal. Internet - they print out a little piece of paper for you with a code that's good for only 2 hours of internet, and the code only works on 1 device. First of all, it seems really wasteful because usually that receipt paper can't be recycled. The 2-hour limit was a dealbreaker, too, because I had two back-to-back meetings to attend online, and it was going to go over that time limit. Space - quite a bit of seating, and not too crowded by the time I came in. Unfortunately for those at tables in the middle, there aren't outlets, and it looked like all the best seats with access to them were taken. read more

We really try to be understanding of restaurants during covid but this was particularly bad. There were flies buzzing all sound the food and a moldy donut in the case. The coffee was so old it tasted fermented. read more

I literally love this place so much!!! The lavender drip coffee w hemp milk is to die for, it's the only thing I get! The place is super hipster and the vibe is indicative of the perfect progressive coffee shop. Everyone here comes to study or do work or catch up with friends. There are outlets almost everywhere which makes it perfect to come and stay for a couple hours. Only thing that sucks is the WiFi is only granted for 2 hours then u have to go back and ask for another WiFi password slip. Not a big deal though because the workers have no problem giving u a new one. Highly recommend read more

The coffee was great! I always get a cappuccino wherever I go to see their skills in how they make the coffee. It had the perfect amount of foam and the coffee tasted great. I came on a Sunday and it was very packed. Although it was packed, it was still quiet enough to get some work done. They have plenty of seating so if you get here early enough you could probably find a good place to sit. They have couches, benches, and individual tables. The food and coffee list wasn't too extensive. They have all the different varieties of coffee available. I will definitely try to come back to try their food. They have some simple things like baked goods and a short list of food that they make there. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a nice quiet spot to get some work done and have a good quality cup of coffee. read more

Bump 'n Grind - cappuccino. perfect amount of foam! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

Bump 'n Grind is a wonderful community coffee shop that plays vinyl records, makes great coffee, offers a comfortable space to do work & study, and hosts all sorts of community events. Be aware that WiFi is time bound and contingent on making a purchase. However, if you know you'll need a few cups or a bite to eat to power your work/study session, then it's definitely a good place to plan to visit. My wife and I stick to lattes and mochas when we stop by on the weekend, but I imagine everything is good. Bump 'n Grind also offers food (though it's not the reason to visit), and adult beverages (which are great during evening events). read more

The atmosphere in this coffee shop is laid back and slightly hipster. There are chairs and small tables and a couple of couches and they do have free wifi. Although they do have a very small selection of food, it is definitely not a place you would choose to go for the food. I am an espresso geek so I wanted to see how their coffee compared to some of the other places in the area. Overall, it was pretty good. The beans for my latte were freshly ground as I watched. They use a new LaMarzocco Strada machine so I was anticipating a great drink. The barista did an ok job creating the drink, however she used too much air when foaming the milk and created more of a cappuccino than a latte. She attempted to pour some latte art, but it came out rather blob-like due to the consistency of the foamed milk. Overall I enjoyed it enough that I will probably come again. read more

I have been here during weekday work hours as well as weekend afternoon. Both time it has been relatively quiet, ample seating, and the service was prompt. Bump 'n Grind has a decent selection of beans (a combination of the popular brands & roasts other DC-area coffee shops have) and teas. They make FLAT WHITES here!!! I cant say it's as good as some Ive had in the UK but I am sure it's better than what Starbucks can offer ;) The lattes, cold brew, and tea Ive had here were all good. Cold drinks are served in mason jars while hot ones in porcelain cups. The sandwich I had was a little overpriced (I think $9?) and coffees are around $4 to $5 for 16 oz. Sadly that is the average price now days. Now, being a music junkie, vinyl collector and coffee lover, I absolutely LOVE the concept of this coffee shop. It is fairly new so it didnt have a big selection of records. A lot of UK Bass, dubstep, some house and techno such as Tectonic, Exit, and Aus. So of course, the playlists of the coffee shop are enjoyable but also not played too loudly. The location is definitely the downside of Bump 'n Grind. Its in the newer development area so really not much around and a lil out of way from the center of Silver Spring. If it succeeds and stays, Im looking forward to go back! read more

Oooh, I'd be here all the time if I was in the area. Huge and spacious (natural light from large front windows) with great furniture and ample power outlets for workers. Tasteful music, lovely decor (B&W photographs, incandescent bulbs), and spaces for lounging (couches right in front). There are two record players in the back--they should really have a sign or something inviting and explaining to newcomers to play music, if that's a thing. Got a cappuccino (free with Indie Coffee Passport) and mint chocolate chip cookies (sourced from a local bakery?) and was super pleased with both. Even though the canvas is small, my cappuccino got an artful treatment for the foam! My only gripes: - One of those "push for 15 seconds of water" sinks in the bathroom - Not enough fresh food offerings - Pricey (but the kind of pricey I'm willing to pay for such a great atmosphere!) - Parking isn't free in the area until after 6pm, and it's either street ($1/hour) or garage ($3?/hour) - Better information on their mission/music/events. read more

Really excellent place for remote working. Very good Internet, plenty of comfortable seating in an open area Café environment. There are electrical outlets all over and it is clearly designed for working in mind. The pricing seems a little high but very worth it considering the comfort and amenities. Coffee and tea selection is excellent. They have sandwiches but not much else in the way of food. And I would love to see some other local food selections like granola and fruit. This is a cool spot that's only a short walk from the Silver Spring Metro station. I got a latte and my sister got the cappuccino, both very delicious and strong! They had live jazz music around the time we went which was a nice touch. It's a great spot for everyone; they had people working on laptops and families with kids hanging out. Funky and clean place. I can't give it 5 stars only due to being served a caffeinated drink that left me feeling sick to my stomach after explicitly asking for decaf. I'd been super looking forward to coming here, so maybe I overhyped the place in my mind, but I'm not a fan and won't be returning. Not only was the place uncomfortably warm, staff was rude, and my latte was bad. Plus, while the made-to-order food seems interesting, the baked goods look like they came from the supermarket nearby. I ordered an iced caramel latte with almond milk. I had to repeat my order twice, only for the cashier to tell me they don't have caramel flavoring or almond milk on the second time. He starts laughing, but then offers vanilla with hemp milk. Perfect. That would work well. He walks away. Like, out the door away. A few minutes later, another staff member starts pulling my shots. He calls out the order "single shot iced hemp latte"'. I was aghast. When is there ever a single shot in a latte, unless maybe the place has sizes (truly great coffee shops tend not to offer sizes)? I taste it and ask if there is vanilla in it. There isn't. Original staff guy meanders over and is tasked with adding vanilla to my latte. I take a few sips and walk away with it, only to leave it on a table on my way out. It's gross, and the two guys working clearly don't know what they are doing, so there's no point in asking for a remake. I'm less mad about losing $6 than I am about trying to find parking in the area. It took me forever, and then I couldn't even get a decent latte. Pass. read more

This place rocks. Great coffee, likable staff.

My babe and I came in one afternoon to work. It was crowded but we were able to snag the last table available! Great spacious space with an amazing natural light. Great selection of music. Super chill and comfortable. I won't lie though... the moment I walked in I just wanted to start singing... "I don't see nothing wrong with a little bump and grind baby..." It took EVERYTHING in me to not embarrass myself and act like a fool. But I definitely sung it in my head for a good 20 minutes. My poor girlfriend... I had... Iced Soy Latte Apple Pie Crisp The crisp was so light, flakey and delicious. The latte on the other hand, super bitter and burnt tasting. $13 for an iced latte and apple pie crisp. Not bad. Good service. Wasn't crazy about their coffee but would definitely give them another chance incase it was an off day. Next time around, I'd like to catch one of their evening events. And maybe a glass of one of their wines. "I don't see nothing wrong, hey baby, hey..." (Sorry had to!) read more

I live right across the street from this place. I like to support local business, but the coffee taste burnt to me. It's very acidic and reminds me of Starbucks. It's also very expensive. I liked the atmosphere of Bump n' Grind. I went there to draw the interior and was not disappointed. The decoration is interesting yet not over the top (and the chairs were really comfortable). Stopped by to grab some caffeine for a long night of studying. I was surprised to find that I couldn't grab a basic cup of coffee at a coffee shop. Barista said they don't serve regular coffee after 1p. Then I said well Ill just get a iced vanilla latte & they couldn't do that either. Ended up with a 5$ 16 oz regular iced latte with more ice than coffee. I wasn't happy about it. It was okay! Literally just ALRIGHT. I wouldn't rave about it but I don't think I'll be back unless it's a quick in/out trip in the morning. The shop did have plenty seating & although the barista couldn't fulfill my order he was still nice & respectful about it. I am a small business local coffee shop junkie. I came across this spot while visiting the silver spring area. I like checking out different coffee houses so I wanted to try this place out. The prices are pretty reasonable and I did enjoy my iced chai tea but I'm not a fan of their burritos. Apparently they just heat them up and they're not made fresh which I didn't expect. Because of this I'm giving them one less star. If I were to come back again, I'd just stick to the drinks. read more

Your opinion of Bump 'n Grind will depend on what's important to you in a coffeehouse. If you're looking for a great place to hang out for a while, then Bump 'n Grind is for you: their décor and furnishings are creative, vibrant, and comfortable. Their WiFi connection is incredibly strong, too. On the other hand, the ugly truth is that Bump 'n Grind does not make good coffee beverages. I have tried both their cappuccino and their iced coffee, and both tasted as if the coffee beans had been burnt (think: Starbucks). Perhaps my opinion had been different if I had splurged for a pour-over... I also agree with everybody else who has lamented in their reviews about [free] parking nearby being tough to find, but then again that's downtown Silver Spring for ya. read more

This review is really 3 and a half stars but since Yelp doesn't like halves I went with 4 stars! I don't usually venture to the vast stretch that is east-west highway in downtown Silver Spring. Well, not beyond the Giant grocery store. So I missed the opening of this new spot until a friend mentioned it to me. Thus far I've been to the establishment twice. Pros - Nice layout, good vibe. Variety of seating that is comfy, functional and conducive for group conversations or if you're flying solo and want to do some work or read, etc - Unique concept, combining a coffeehouse with (somewhat) of a record store (but still promoting local record stores and encouraging other patrons to dig for classics there while they focus on new - releases), listening room, local music destination - Record listening station to check out some of the records - Plans to feature local music artists, djs and hold listening parties, etc - Really nice bathrooms - They also sell beer and wine - I tried their cappucino and one of their tea blends. Both were pleasant and delightful - Friendly staff Cons - It's still new so they're still working the kinks out. The first visit they had no sandwiches, no chai, and were out of 1 of their coffee blends - It's not a large space so all the functions they'll have will be on the intimate side, but also has the potential of possibly getting a little crowded. I'll come to one of the events when they happen and confirm - food/pastries are a bit of a miss. But again, this could improve. We'll see. All in all, it's worth a visit to check out. Although some may bemoan the opening of yet another coffehouse in downtown silver spring I think this one will provide a unique offering and add to the selection instead of floating the market. I go to Zed's Cafe for the cozy frineds-living-room appeal, Kaladi's is known for their pastries, Kefa Cafe has a homely appeal with variety of blends, this place gives you a spot to talk music with friends or learn of the local record label scene and has the potential to be a nice quiet evening venue. I'll definitely be back to check out one of the dj nights since they have their music schedule up for the month! (side note: there's a capital rideshare rack in front of the shop and a few free parking garages nearby but no real street parking. It's roughly about a 10 min walk from the metro) - read more

I came here per the recommendation of one of my mates, but my expectations were unfortunately not met. The trek from Alexandria to Silver Spring wasn't worth it today. First, the prices. $3.25 for two shots of espresso topped off with hot water, and a leaky 12 oz. paper cup. Jesus christ. For that price, I should be getting a triple. A 12 oz. filter coffee there is $2.50. Speaking of filter, I wasn't able to get it because they "stop brewing at 1 pm." I understand having only medium roast post-peak, but none at all is baffling. I've actually never encountered that before. Second, the coffee was average, especially for the dollar-to-caffeine ratio. Below expectations for the money paid. Twelve minutes west on 410 will get you an amazing cup from Quartermaine (definitely worth a visit there!), and even Starbucks have a better Americano. Both are also 65c lighter on your wallet at $2.60 post-tax. Third, the cashier (Tim, according to the receipt) had such a condescending attitude. I don't know if it was the puzzled look on my face after being told no for drip, but I was attempted an upsell for a nearly $4 pour-over. No thanks. I then asked for the Americano, at which point I was asked rhetorically if I knew what it was. He continued with (and I paraphrase) "An Americano is a shot or so of espresso - basically an ounce of concentrated coffee - and hot water." For fuck's sake, I'm not the village idiot. However, I will give credit where it's due. The shop looks nice and is in a good location. Also, whoever put Yes for Apple Pay on the sidebar is wrong. They don't have it. Hope my card didn't get skimmed on their odd-looking iPad swiper case. Given my 3/10 rating, I probably won't be back. read more

Firstly, the atmosphere is very welcoming and perfect for studying or just reading a good book. Unfortunately, Bump 'n Grind, or as my friend and I like to call it, the Hump 'n Dump, also serves coffee. The coffee is extremely lackluster unfortunately. My friend and I bought two vanilla coldbrews and that was a big mistake. It was virtually just black coffee and there was no mixing of vanilla at all. You pay $3.30 for a lackluster coffee that you are no doubt gonna throw away before you even finished it. Extremely disappointing. That's not to mention the abysmal service and wait time. My friend ordered the same drink I did and a "buzz burrito". Not only did it take 15 minutes for the coffee to get there, the same drink that was finished literally 2 seconds after I paid for my order, but the burrito was awful and clearly pre-cooked. He ordered the coldbrew at the same time I did, and I instantly got mine, and for his drink it took them 15 minutes for them to even notice his order wasn't being made. He had to go up to them and stand there for them to start making it. And of course the quality was awful, at least we know they're consistent. Go here for the atmosphere and order a free water. Don't order coffee, please, for your own health and sanity. read more

Bump n Grind, you're giving Kaldi's a run for their money! Silver spring has great coffee shops and cafes--Kaldi's, Kefa Cafe, and others--so it's quite a feat for Bump n Grind to make a name for itself so quickly! The stretch along East-West Highway is definitely up and coming and this is a great addition. I think most of the patrons are residents of the Blairs but everyone should make the trip to try Bump n Grind. Parking is tricky. You can find a spot down Blair Mill Rd or Newell, but there's also a parking garage close by (down Bottleneck, the same one used for Denizens). The space is great: very open with lots of seating options. The music is always on point and creates an excellent ambiance for working. Free wifi and lots of outlets to plug in your outlets. Check out the record selection while you're here! I'm not a record aficionado but I can appreciate the selection here. They offer a wide selection of coffee drinks and teas. The americano is good, the hot chocolate is thick and delicious, and the chai is out of this world. An iced chai is only $4.25 and it's much better than Starbucks! The sandwich selection looked really good and they offer treats from Sticky Fingers (if you haven't gone there yet, go). I think Kaldi's has a better loose leaf tea collection and more food options, as well as better parking, but I think I'll be returning to Bump n Grind again if only for their iced chai. read more

I have to say, after visiting B&G a few more times, I'm not thrilled. First, the food options are terrible. You can't even get, say, a basic cookie to accompany your coffee or tea (though the barista said "Cookies will be here on Thursday." Of course, today is Tuesday so that doesn't help!) What kind of cafe doesn't have a supply of pastries on hand? It's true that they have biscotti. And one kind of muffin. But it's a pretty limited selection, and what they do have - say, the blueberry muffin - isn't good. Second, boo to the way they serve tea. They don't give you the tea bag with your hot water, which means you can't control how strong (or weak) the tea is. Today, I ended up with a cup of incredibly weak green tea, and I sure wish I had been able to just let the tea bag sit for another minute or two. Third, the staff is uniformly unfriendly. I've been in there a number of times, and I've always been surprised by how unhappy everyone is (and sometimes, honestly, things there are absurd -- once I went in and asked for tea and they told me they were out of hot water but could give me a tea bag to go. They didn't even have a sense of humor about this absurdity). I've often found that the staff seems annoyed when I ask questions like "what kind of iced tea do you have?" I just get the sense they don't really want to engage with customers, which si too bad. There's so much to love about this place - the big windows, the great natural light, and the fact that at least on a weekday, there's always seating. But I think they need to work out their kinks- there are so many options in Silver Spring that mediocrity won't survive. read more
