I opted for a vegetarian one which came with sun-dried tomato, eggplant and pesto from what I can recall. I took a bite and the focaccia was crunchy and soft to the touch. And the staff provided prompt and efficient service. The sandwich was also at the right temperature without that hot flush kind of feeling. And it was great to observe that the establishment was clean and well presented which gave me an extra vote of confidence to buy my lunch here. The art of making an almost (if not) perfect foccacia was evident at this establishment and worth the investment for lunch that day. This establishment is also quite inviting - maybe even hypnotising as I was in a trance like state from the amazing bargains I scooped up for my wardrobe perhaps; and I did not experience that bready and floury aftertaste which can be the case with focaccia's at times. What a great place to eat out. However in future it might be a good idea to be a customer in a more awake state next time - just joking.

Perhaps it's the fact that you have to drive to whoop whoop... Perhaps it's the fact that after driving to whoop whoop you still have to wait ages, but the Duchess did not impress me then. Fast forward to today, I had to go to the Scienceworks and it's in Spotswood, so I decided to give The Duchess another go. Now it's obviously a weekday plus it's probably just after lunch hr so it's less busy. They were able to accommodate two prams and was super friendly and efficient about it which is a big tick for me at this point in my life! Food ordering is a bit slow to be honest. We ordered our drinks and waited and waited and no one came to take our order! We finally had to flag someone down and THEN they told us there are specials! Not sure if they just didn't want to overwhelm us and let us settle down but I felt the service need to be a bit more efficient. Anyway so I ordered the special which is the soft shell crab w pork belly on a brioche. It was amazing!! They managed to cut the fattiness of this whole combo with fresh coriander and zesty mayo. I am not a fan of Scienceworks but I will come back for The Duchess!

And I have loved coming here for years. Friday evenings are ones to avoid when the office workers in the city pour out of their concrete blocks and into Meyer's Place until it is so crammed that they're spilling out into Loop bar on the opposite side of the laneway. Makes it impossible to hang out inside, and even more difficult to hang out outside whilst trying to stay within the 'boundaries' that the bouncers declare. Still, it's a wonderful place to meet a friend for a quiet drink on less busy nights.

It has a feel like it might be suited for the alternative types that like to enjoy a wine and discuss art but it's totally accepting at the same time. At night it's a great place to meet a few people (not too many, as it's pretty small) and get a table to sit and chat before maybe heading someone for a boogie later on. I spent a birthday here recently and was impressed at the casual but trendy vibe they had going on where it was a really cool place to start our night. The only downside is that it directly faces Loop Bar, which is always something I find just a tad off putting as you feel like you're staring down the competition. Overall I really like what they've got going on!

In the end we found a table and the waiter came straight away, he was very friendly and didn't mind that my mum didn't want dry fruit in her fruit salad. After a small chat the food came in, we were both surprised how quickly it was. I ordered the Boston Burger which was amazing and it came with plenty of chips and it filled me up really easily. The bread is really soft and the chips were very tasty! My mum enjoyed her fruit salad and was very happy with the restaurant (which can be very difficult). All in all I would 100% recommend going to this place, with friendly staff and amazing food what else is there to want?

I was damn cold and hungry and my cousins and I ran down laneways in the rain and found Villa Café just past a very good looking fish market. This little café doesn't look cool or urban or funky but it serves a great breakfast with sourdough on request, great poached eggs and crispy bacon and fat hot coffee. Because I drink black coffee it needs to be very smooth, from clean pipes, made well. This was strong but without bitterness. We were the only customers and received great service from cute buff guy. My cuzzies had bacon/egg sangos and left no leftovers so musta been good. Best thing, great restroom so I could freshen up and clean my teeth and braces after the meal. I admit, the chia latte wasn't the best, but it was okay. Again, I was happy with this. And the price point, talk about getting bang for your buck. I wish more cafes were like this, they can even split bills here! It's very cosy inside- and can in some ways feel like a tight space. We got there about 9:30am, and it was perfectly quiet. Hot honey did not disappoint! Firstly we were greeted by surely the nicest waiter I have ever met, she asked us how I morning was then went on to tell us the specialties and all the while being bubbly and smiling. So refreshing. Firstly I got the iced coffee, and just as expected it was a delicious espresso with not too much milk all icy and delicious. Plus a little scoop of icecream on the top made it sweet and tasty! We were told the avocado smash and the corn bread were the best sellers. So we ordered them. They quickly arrived. The cornbread was thick and moist with a beautiful avocado and tomato salsa with a little coriander (YUM!) the bacon was generous and well cooked. The smashed avocado was served on crusty bread with just enough mint to make it tangy not too tart. We added bacon and again it was a generous portion and well cooked. There is seriously no feedback I could give Hot Honey, other than to keep doing exactly what they are doing. Lovely staff, great organic food, good value and great location! I will certainly be a returning customer and if you're looking for a yummy breakfast then you better get down to Hot Honey :)
