Well you need to be able to appreciate what kava & kratom really is. Your NOT going to see it's effects the first few times and there is truth in tolerance breakdown. The more you have the less you'll need as you start out. There are also fancy cocktail versions for those that need sweetness or something to hide the bite. It is made with the root of the plants and yes it's numbing to the tongue and lips which is the tip of how it can work on the central nervous system. There are different strains for example I prefer 50-50 which is 1/2 body.. 1/2 mind. This is a nice blend of I want some level of alertness but a relaxed body too. It can def compare to the drunk feelings alcohol gives you without the hangover the next day. Bula has a bohemian vibe very welcoming and warm; from the friendly kava tenders to the patrons. These is plenty of covered outdoor deck space with a pool table and games. Sometimes you can get a free pizza when a patron is kind enough to bring home some takeout! Plenty of room for the pups as it's dog friendly. There's karaoke on some nights or trivia. Plenty of great events and socializing to be had. They have kombucha on tap and once again acquired taste here it's fermented! So if your open minded and like to try kratom or kava , keep coming. For those of your friends that don't have the patience order coffee or kombucha. BULA!! (cheers!:)

Cute Kava bar across from St. Pete High. The atmosphere is extremely laid back and chill. The baristas were very friendly and offered recommendations based on my favorite flavors.

You have to try it, but not before or after any type of alcohol *or kombucha*. Learned both the hard way. You will feel like dyinggggg if you do! You've been warned. Don't expect a tasty sip of kava... it's not that sort of drink. But it will make your tongue a little numb! Just don't drink too much at first. The atmosphere at Bula is super chill and everyone is super nice! The last time I was there I made friends with someone who brought their switch and we played for a while! If you put your phone down and say hi and introduce yourself to people, you will make some new friends... The seating is outdoor so sometimes it's really hot and humid. But hey it's as close as we can get to Hawaii so I'll take it! This is a true gem.. Everyone takes shells together and says bula! I'm sure you've read some of the other reviews. It's a place you need to experience at least once, with an open mind and zero alcohol in your system within 24 hrs.

Bula Kafe is a relaxing hippie tea lounge in St. Pete that serves kava tea. The concept sounded cool. Kava is consumed throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia. The Kava tea is made from plant roots and has sedative and anesthetic properties. I drank the "kool-aid" and walked out of Bula Kafe a non-believer. In my opinion the tea tastes disgusting and it is really expensive. Four small bowls of kava and two coconut waters ran us almost $30. I cannot believe I paid to drink something that resembled and tasted like green sewage water!!! I was a little weirded out that the tea numbed my lips and teeth. I went with three other people and none of us felt the "relaxing results" of the tea. If you plan to drink alcohol the same day you consume kava then you will probably get sick. I made the mistake of having a cocktail about three hours after consuming the tea and I tossed my cookies 45 minutes later (Sorry for the visual.) Even if I had enjoyed the tea I don't think I would drink kava on a regular basis. Apparently heavy usage of kava can result in liver damage. If you want to relax there are other options. A glass of wine maybe?

Nice people. Large outdoor covered patio is a plus. Friendly service. And their espresso is pretty good too.

I loved that their menu has a ton of vegan and gluten-free options, and everything is clearly labeled so you don't have to guess. It gives that colorful fun Florida vibe and instantly brings up your mood! We got the spiced orange latte and I didn't love it. The coffee seemed a bit watery but it was iced and usually iced coffee doesn't present the flavors as well as a warm drink so I can't be too picky on that. They added a nice orange slice on top and I'm a sucker for cute little additions like that. The barista was really patient with me and sweet even tho I changed my mind mid order because I saw a different drink. Their to go cups are not simple which I love so they can still be photographed and appreciated. They are very pricy tho, definitely west coast prices instead of east and it wasn't worth it for me but it might be someone else's cup of tea, or cup of coffee!

Deb (I believe that was her name) waited on me, and she was friendly and cheerful - she had a big smile on her face the whole time. I ordered the cinnamon bun latte, and it was delicious - just the right amount of flavoring, and it came out nice and hot. They offer several syrup flavors for lattes and even have non-fat milk, which is a huge bonus since not every place does. My latte was under $5, which is extremely reasonable for the area! There's also a pastry case filled with tempting desserts, I didn't try one this time, but I definitely plan to on my next visit. Seating inside is a bit limited, but there's a covered porch and sidewalk seating if you'd like to enjoy your coffee outdoors. I told my friend about it, and we're both excited to come back soon!

A gentleman came in to order breakfast when I was leaving, and it sounded like they serve more than just the pastries they offer in the bakery display case, so this would good be a good spot for breakfast to go. Service was great and the drink was tasty, and I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

My friend met me for dinner last night and from the first interaction with the hostess, to our dining experience with Aaron, the food, and the people watching...it simply got an A+. When I'm dining out, I need equal parts ambience, aesthetics, and the quality of food that hits my palate. The crispness of the Sauvignon Blanc was beautiful. For an appetizer we shared the crispy artichokes and trufflekopita. Both are a must try! They continuously give you a mouthful of flavor and are perfectly seasoned. For our entrees, we got the chicken francaise. The bucatini it was served on was delicious. For sides, we ordered roasted vegetables and OMGGGGGGG, get the Rosemary bread. The cherry on top was our service from Aaron and his recommendations on dishes and accompaniments. Superb all the way around - we will be back!

For this visit, I had the blackened chicken sandwich on an onion ciabatta toasted bun with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a sweet mustard sauce, served with a side of salt and vinegar French fries. The chicken sandwich was very good. I think a little more blackened seasoning would elevate this to the next level. I also felt the bread-to-chicken ratio was off. There was just too much bread and not enough chicken. The French fries are highly addictive. They also have an excellent selection of cocktails which are awesome! Two of my favorites are the Pink Streets Margarita and the Sunken Gardens. The service is excellent, friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Overall, I am looking forward to coming back to Perry's Porch for another lunch.
