Bad. Never pick up the phone so you can check on your child. Like a factory my child hated this place. Teachers are unfriendly.

My husband and I stumbled upon Earthplace today while in Westport. We are so happy we did. Upon…read moredriving up you could see two distinct spaces; nature trails and main animal building. We weren't prepared for nature walks so we just viewed the trails. That is absolutely something we will come back to do. Today we decided to do the animal sanctuary. When you first go up to the building, make sure to look down and see the animal prints in the sidewalk. The price was $10 per adult (less per child) and we were happy to pay it since it went directly for the care of the animals. We started in the hall with the small critters. There is also a playroom for smaller kids. They have some centers and a huge tree in the middle of the room. There is a smaller kid section and a little nature movie theater. Very cute. We loved the critters and birds. Two in particular were VERY social. Pecans (an artistic dancing pigeon) and E.T. (a lovable turkey vulture). We spent a lot of time interacting with these two. We had some interactions with the staff and caretakers and it was pretty obvious these animals are well loved. The animals there are either surrendered or injured. We left with some items from the little shop-including art from Pecans. We will absolutely be returning. This was such a happy find!

The entrance to the building has a custom tile mural that is uniquely wonderful. You pay to view the animals are check out the dioramas, animals and exhibits inside. You can see the birds of prey which were rescued from the wild due to their injuries. You can go during feeding time. The entrance fees help to pay for the food and care of the animals. Wonderful space to get outdoors and appreciate nature. We saw a turtle, wild turkeys, chipmunks, birds and butterflies walking the trails. I will come back to enjoy this refuge and experience the postive effects of being out in nature.

No organization to the point my son is stuck in a class I have continuously said he is not enriched in due to a rotation of teachers in it, and no updates throughout the day on my sons activities or curriculum. Was quoted the wrong tuition from the start and my concerns expressed along with other family members were ignored. If you want a school with a classroom that truly enriches kids without rotating teachers (I've seen up to 6 teachers in my sons class periodically) , active communication and detailed curriculum activities in the app they use..do not go here.

My worst nightmare happened at Tutor time in Norwalk when my daughter came home with unexplained…read moreinjuries. When she started, she would cry unconsolably when we dropped her off. When I watched her on their video app, I noticed she wouldn't be comforted. I also noticed that she spent hours in the crib despite only napping for an hour. The teacher was cold towards her and my daughter seemed specifically scared of this teacher. There was a lot of neglect and isolation. When she was picked up by this specific teacher, it was without empathy. I saw my daughter fearfully retreat into the crib when she was approached by her. I saw my daughter swat at her face and the teacher then took her to an area of the room that isn't visible on camera. When I tried to screenshot or record what I saw, it disables the app. I called the assistant director and spoke with him about my concerns. That evening when I went to bathe my daughter, I noticed multiple abrasions on her chest, armpit, back and puncture wounds on her hand. I sent an email to the assistant director and met with him and the site director in the morning. When I undressed my daughter and showed them her injuries they stated they felt they occurred by the teacher picking her up and being scratched by her long nails accidentally. There was never an incident report made. It's impossible that my daughter was scratched harmlessly with her clothes on leaving a total of 9 marks on her left side and two on her right hand. There is no way that my daughter scratched herself nor another child. I am a ER physician and their lack of concern is appalling. This was not an accident. I believe Tutor time is not naive to instances similar to what occurred with my daughter based on their response. They are not a safe facility for any child to attend and I definitely would warn anyone not to do so.

Honestly, as a new mom, I had no idea what kind of expectation I could or should have for early education. The Montessori School shocked me with what I could expect of an "out-of-home" environment - it truly raises the bar. The investment every teacher puts into each child is amazing, the setting is so peaceful, and my kids are thrilled to go to school and do their "work" every day. The teachers are also highly educated (degrees in education and special certification in Montessori). There are 2 Toddler classes with about 10-13 students and 3 primary classes with about 15-25 students. There are also Lower and Upper Elementary levels which go through 6th grade. Each class has a Head Instructor and an Assistant. I saw a review critiquing diversity which was confusing to me because there is a high degree of diversity in both the staff and student body. I'd encourage every parent to visit and observe a classroom - it's incredible to see such young children being so independent, and the teachers and environment are purpose-built to encourage self-sufficiency and to engage young minds.

By the time elementary school rolls around, people start to have doubts. No grades? No tests? 3-year cycle? Kids get to choose what to work on? How do I know if my child is doing better here than in other schools? We came from another Montessori program into 2nd year of Lower Elementary at TMS. What unfolded in front of us over the years was nothing short of amazing: strong supportive parent community, classrooms that inspire creativity, experienced dedicated teachers; rich, often above grade level curriculum; projects/events that made us wish we went to Montessori school ourselves. Digging deeper, we found that behind warm, nurturing and seemingly fluid classroom experience there is a rigorous system that ensures each student excels. When someone who left the school half way through the cycle tells you that the program didn't deliver, take it with a grain of salt - they didn't want to wait for the pieces of the puzzle to come together. Those who saw it happen become its staunch supporters. A note on diversity: international teaching staff and families across the world (you may hear as many as four different languages spoken in the parent room at the same time) make this school special. No diversity stats will show you that.
