This Build-A-Bear is very enjoyable to visit.  The staff and management are upbeat and participate in the events around them.  They are caring for their patrons. They have a great selection of bears and other stuffed toys to choose from.  I like the pirate and the rainbow bear especially. The stuffing stations are in good condition.  One drawback was there was a light film of dust in the place.  I am not sure if it was due to the material batch they were using or the process they used to load the stuffing station.  The process involved dragging out a bag and grabbing large tufts of material and pushing it into the machine.  They might need to work on that one - maybe auto introduction from a bag or small bale.  When we visited there was a young bride there with her bridesmaids and family.  It made the whole activity festive.  Talking about festive - there was a birthday party going on too and if you don't know how it gets in a Build-A-Bear when a party is going on you've simply got to see it to believe it! They have a wide selection of accoutrements for the bears and others.  It's a hoot to browse through them.  Last but not least there is a sound machine where you can load sounds into your bear's heart which is then placed in the chest your bear and sewed in tight.  (It's not as far out as it sounds - once you see it or participate it all makes perfect sense - like having fun!) Enjoy yourself!

I arrived for the Build a Bear pay your age the lines were already cut off. I offered to pay full price, and still was denied access to the store. This event was poorly handed. This should be a shinning example of poor marketing. Up front you could have disclosed 200 bears at child's age, then a percent off of kids age for the day. Why didn't your management have the foresight to develop a better plan? HUGE Disappointment! We probably have at least twenty of your animals in each kids room. Thank you for wasting my time...

Deceptive sign at build a bear

Saw this sign at Build-A-Bear and have a baby on the way so we wanted to get some lion king stuffed animals thinking this was a good deal. After stuffing the animals and getting them all ready to cash out they told us the lion king animals were excluded. This sign clearly shows the deal with the lion king on it. VERY DECEPTIVE!!! Crooked company that we will never return to!!

They have an awesome display of Lego collectible figures, but the prices are out of this world…read more Some routinely go for $40, some much, much higher, too, while the average price per figure for ones that I can get anywhere else is about $15. Even the cheapest ones, which are sold in huge quantities everywhere you can buy Lego mini figures, sell for almost $10 at the Robot Garage. I can and do buy those same ones at places like the drug store, Five Below and even Toys R Us for a couple of bucks. Do they have a large, even quite impressive, selection? Yes, but they are overrated and overpriced. They do have in-demand pieces and ones that have been retired or only were produced in limited quantities, but they are not so rare that the prices are justified on everything they sell. Come on, a lot of those figures I can and have gotten for $3 each and there is no need to spend that much on a little hobby. I was last here a the weekend after Thanksgiving. The customer service was so lacking that I'm tempted to not even give them a three star review because based on that one particular experience, although I've been here many times, was so downright horrible that I wouldn't even give them a one star except that I couldn't give lower. The guy that was supposed to be waiting on me basically walked off chatting on his phone and ignored every customer in there. It was near closing time, but there were a bunch of people waiting for assistance and he just walked off to take a personal call on his phone while staring right back at the line at the counter. Some nice girl that didn't really know what she was doing was forced to come to the front and take care of everything herself and mumbled apologies at us, but it wasn't her place to apologize, it was his. He disappeared and we never saw him again as we left the store. I'm still surprised that I bought the pieces I wanted, but they were ones that I was missing and I did want them. I do admit to having a little buyer's remorse over purchasing them with that guy's attitude. The store does have nice Lego displays for children and a huge selection, so that's what brings people through the door. It certainly isn't the customer service that is lacking in all areas.

It's not like there are Russian puppet theatres in every city, so we had to go all the way to Detroit. I said yes, of course. This was back in 2009, some ten Detroit vacations ago. Honestly I'm really not that into puppets, even Russian ones, but I can attest that the show I saw was remarkable in its ability to captivate and soothe a house full of hyperactive children. This is a low-key spot, and they have sort of a puppet museum in the lobby. It really seems like the perfect place to bring kids. I had less luck paying attention from my seat, sandwiched between a four year old in front and his mother in back. "I GOT A EYE VIEW," the mother whispered through her teeth and at her child. "KEEP QUIET OR I'LL HIT YOU WITH MY STICK!" For the next 45 minutes, all I could think about was how I'd better behave.

The kids had a blast and there's fun play area for littles and big kids alike. We loved the little driving course and slides. One thing the kids really liked was the games you could play when purchasing a card were "play till you win". So we came home with lots of stuffies and duckies! Highly recommend and we will be back!

Compared…read moreto other indoor play facilities, Kids Empire is on the high end for cost, especially if you have multiple children. For my family of 3 kids, it's $60 for a day worth of entry and we typically only play a couple hours as my children are 3, 4 and 5 years old. Even when purchasing the punch card, entry is still $15.90 per child. We were able to see past the expense and still came to enjoy a few hours of occasional fun at Kids Empire. Just beware the price point and there are no family/ multiple children play pack options. My real frustration occurred today. I've had previous customer service unsatisfactory experiences here with staff but was able to reach out to upper management and they were able to work to resolve issues. Today, they were not!! I wanted to plan my daughter's birthday party at Kids Empire and the package cost was going to be $349 for 2.5 hrs of reserved space, up to 10 kids (we were going to have 6) and we were bringing in all of our own food and drink. I was originally told and quoted by an employee that is no longer there (but was last week) that all adults were included in the party package and no additional fees would be added. I went to book my party today and was told with the amount of adults, each (above the 10 limit allotment) would be $15 each. This was going to price my already $350 party to over $550 plus keep in mind, I still was going to bring in all food and beverage separately. I was flabbergasted and beyond frustrated for a $15 "adult fee," for what?!?! I reached out to Fadi and Jerry, upper management and Director of Operations to express my concerns of what the $15/ adult fee was going towards-- above the party package. I was told this is policy. This is a crazy policy, in my opinion, to charge adults to literally stand around, celebrating a 3-year-old's birthday to sing happy birthday and then leave. I understand completely and I'm totally fine with paying for each child and any additional food charges, but this is supposed to be a KID's Play facility and family friendly experience! The management team was not willing to waive these adult fees which priced my party to an unreasonable cost for a few hours, especially compared to other play facilities in the area. They were also willing to lose my business of $350 + dollars for a birthday event. I was told if they waived adult fees, there would be no Kids Empires in years to come because this is a business. I understand everyone is in a business to make money but this is supposed to be a KID's BUSINESS facility. My adults were not going to participate in playing in a kid's jungle gym. My opinion is save your money and go to a family friendly, more affordable place for birthday options. Most kid's places are willing to work with you and NOT lose out on opportunities to book your business. Kids Empire might not be in business in years to come because they are pricing families out of affordable options for an afternoon experience. It was evident today when I walked in and no customers were at the facility playing. Too expensive!!! Management not willing to work with their customer base!
