The Worcester Common Oval - 7/19/2024

    The Worcester Common Oval

Still, from what I could see, this looks looks like a very nice city 'green space'. The Worcester Common Oval is where a skating rink is installed in the winter. Prices to skate are reasonable and if you don't have skates, you can rent a pair. In summer concerts and festivals are hosted in this space. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the late 17th century, the Common was 20 acres. The current site is just over four acres. At one point, the Common was used as the militia training ground. Later it was the burying ground and today there are still gravesites located in the park. There are three war memorials inside the park, one of which is a large water fountain, and we noticed two art installations during our visit. Behind the Oval is City Hall making for some really nice photos across the park. There are benches around the park and in winter the pathways were shoveled. I imagine in warmer weather the park is filled with locals enjoying the day. Having lived in a big city, I very much appreciate a public park where you can go and enjoy some open space and the city can host public events. There's no public restroom or atleast I haven't seen one even after living here for a year and visiting it so many many times. Yes there are issues during times and you want to be safe but ask yourself, "Is Central Park in nyc safe around all time of the year and in every nook and corner?" It's in downtown folks. Be wary of the time you visit however big big shout-out to the city for arranging excellent events from time to time. Let's make #wooval kid friendly family friendly gathering place again.

During my most recent visit for figure skating, multiple front parking spaces were blocked by buses. One bus alone occupied approximately eight parking spots while the driver remained inside with the engine running. This significantly reduced access for paying skaters. When I reported this to the front office, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. I was explicitly told by staff that I "needed to park on the overhang on the hill," despite arriving with skating equipment and multiple bags. No attempt was made to assist, redirect the buses, or offer a reasonable alternative. The manner in which this was communicated was discourteous and left me feeling disregarded as a customer. Unfortunately, similar issues have occurred in the past. On a previous visit, the women's restroom was flooded, and the only accessible stall had ice-cold water. The facility frequently has an unpleasant odor, and overall cleanliness and maintenance appear to be ongoing concerns. Last year in the winter, I encountered a fall stepping out of my car in the parking lot because no maintenance was done to remove ice. Also, the ice is absolutely miserable and resurfacing not done on time, so we often don't get to skate the full 50 minutes that we pay 30 dollars for. As a figure skater - and especially being a woman that gets treated condescendingly and with absolutely zero respect, I have repeatedly felt unwelcome at this facility. Combined with poor parking management, inadequate maintenance, and consistently unprofessional interactions with staff, this creates an environment that does not meet the expectations of a major sports complex. I would expect far better organization, accessibility, and customer service. Until these issues are meaningfully addressed, I cannot recommend this facility.

Their tournaments are a joke. They all put B teams to in the C level & the A teams in the B levels.read more
