This place used to be the best pizzeria in Kearny until they sold it a few years ago. Now this…read moreplace is average at best. Their subs are still good but the pizza has gone down hill. The last four times we ordered either pick up or delivery the order was wrong. I probably won't eat here again unless there's really nothing else. Update: I have recently ordered from Peter's on three separate occasions and my experiences have been great. Our orders have been correct, the food was really good, and their pizza has improved drastically. I tried their burgers and I recommend them, especially with the onion rings. I have increased my rating from three stars to four stars and if they continue with this level of great quality and service I may increase it again.

I worked just a block from Peter's original location and while it was never my favorite it was convenient (especially when your "lunch hour" was only 15 minutes). The original owners moved to this location (expanding to the adjoining space, which is now a completely different/separate restaurant), eventually retired and while the new owners kept the "Peter's Pizzeria" moniker they've changed and expanded the menu. We've tried the 'current' Peter's twice now and... it's not very good, sorry to say. The pizza - what you'd expect/receive from a bowling alley. The garlic knots - overcooked and they looked like they'd be bursting with flavor but were duds. The pizza sandwich - remember the scene in Ratatouille when the critic (Anton Ego) has that first bite of Remy's ratatouille and it brings him back to his youth and all those amazing memories? - that's how I get when it comes to a pizza sandwich. A 'regional delicacy' (popular in Kearny back in the day, I'm not even sure if you can find them in other towns/states) that I loved as a kid... Peter's was completely overpriced for the portion size but it was my favorite item of the three we tried. Very disappointing all around.

Inside is clean and reminiscent of Shake N Steak for those that know that place. Ordering was on a kiosk so you barely have any interaction with staff. The had a good offering of fountain drinks along with lemonade that while you are dining in are free refills. I ordered The Wayback Classic and Fries. The fries were cooked perfectly and had a side of Wayback sauce which was a tangy yellow sauce similar to carolina gold BBQ sauce. The burger was nice but the bread didn't seem 100% fresh. But still it was good. Overall you can't go wrong with Wayback if you are looking to scratch that burger itch.
