The Davey Tree Expert Company

The Davey Tree Expert Company

We have 2 big trees in our backyard and we noticed last summer that they needed some maintenance…read more There were plenty of dead branches and some of them were getting way too close to the house. We called Davey Tree Expert and shortly after George, one of their arborists, stopped by. We discussed what needed to be done and he sent an estimate soon after. We noticed that the leaves turned brown prematurely during the summer. George told us both trees needed fertilizing. He pointed out to us, which branches need attention, needed to be trimmed or cut off. He also pointed out a lot of dead wood that needed to be removed. Fertilization was done in October and they recommend you repeat it each year. The trimming was planned for February or March, they give you 10% off if they can do it during the winter months. The first date got cancelled because the job they were at, took more tome than planned. Yesterday, March 3rd, George called and said they had an opening and can they come over now. Sure. A crew of 4 with 3 big trucks showed up shortly. Our driveway was too narrow for the cherry picker, so 2 guys climbed the trees to do all the work. The 2 others handed them their tools, cleaned up all the falling branches and mulched them immediately. It was a fast operation, an hour and a half at most. They cleaned up the driveway before they left. If you need tree maintenance done, Davey is the company to go to.

He told us we needed to have our trees fertilized. Lack of fertilizer was the reason the leaves were turning prematurely brown each year, not because of the change in season. He also described which branches specifically had to be trimmed or cut off entirely. The Davey team came in October to fertilize our trees. They would return sometime in the winter months to do the trimming. Today, March 3, 2021, a team of four men came with their cherry picker. Unfortunately it seemed too close to the houses on either side of the driveway to get the cherry-picker up our driveway and so instead two men climbed the trees and sawed and cut branches; the other two men picked up the branches and sent them through the machinery to turn them into mulch. The entire job took approximately an hour and 1/2. The men used their blower to clean up the tree "crumbs" in the driveway. It was a very efficient operation, very neat and tidy.

We used AJ's Tree Services in the past and we recently hired them again. First time, we thought…read morethe service price was fair. This time, Chase came to give us a quote. When I learned the quote, he told me that they can't bring their truck/crane to the driveway (you can park 4 cars next to each other in this driveway/that's how wide it is), because it is "too narrow." He justified the price saying tree is "too high." The tree is three story high. Eventually we agreed and hired them. They were able to put their truck/crane and bins easily without absolutely no problem as he had told us. They finished the work less than 1.5 hours. Also, I am not happy that they did not cut the branches where we were told they would. They only trimmed some branches. The branches will grow next year to the same position, no doubt about it. The bill was $2000. I feel that it was a complete rip off.

We bought a house, in the winter, and when spring came it was pretty apparent that some of the…read moretrees on our property had suffered bore beetle damage. The trees were VERY large and near power lines and a main road. My husband researched this company and 2 others for quotes. AJ's sent an arborist who helped us triage the needs of our yard, and helped us determine trees that we could possibly save. They also gave us advice on where to start when re-planting. The other 2 companies sent, guys who do quotes. AJ's price was great and we decided to go with them. The day they came, the crew rolled in with 3-4 huge trucks full of people & equipment, they made quick work of the trees & a stump, cleaned up and were gone, painless. They will also be treating the trees we can save. Great experience!

Save your money, this company is the WORST!!! They show up when to get their money, but refuse to…read morereturn calls. Don't take off work to wait for them to show up, because Tony is a scam artist. He won't show or call, especially if you have a complaint. And if you pay cash, make sure to get a clear receipt, and SAVE it! Because they'll call months later (likely hoping you tossed it) and say you owe a balance. They'll start the work immediately so that you can't back out, then a two day job will turn into a 4 month job. Just go read the complaints on BBB. All the same. Can i give negative stars?

This company sucks. They never communicate. They don't return phone calls. You have to keep…read morebugging them to get anything done. After I finally got them out to take my tree down about 1.5 years ago, I still had to call them to fix the 24 18" by 18" pavers their truck drove over and crushed. You would think they would have said something to me 1st, but no. This took another set of back and forth phone calls and after they fixed the pavers they still were not as straight and even as before (not even close). So they had to do it again. The 2nd time was better, but not as good as original. Of course this time also took many more phone calls. Now 1 1/2 -2 years later I couldn't understand why grass was not growing where the tree was. They only grinded the tree stump down about 1-2' below the surface and covered it up with dirt. I had to dig it up this year to find they did not grind the normal 8-10" to properly grow grass. I finally got them out here 2 months ago and they said I was right, we will be back to grind some more. I am back to trying to reach them again. I did get to talk to one women who stated that they were waiting on the utility company to come out and verify their were no lines underground. But they would have checked that before they cut down the tree the 1st time. Pain in the ass company. I never write reviews, but I didn't want anyone else to go thru this. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Jack D.
