Awesome place for treasure-hunting if you enjoy DIY home projects or are renovating a house. If you love watching home renovation shows, this is the place those people would shop for all the good stuff. They have SO MANY cool things of all ages, from antiques to newer stuff, everything including the kitchen sink. Prices vary widely but most items are clearly marked so you'll know which things are within budget and which are the splurges. Bricks and countertops are in the fenced-in outdoor area. The staircase to the second and third levels is just inside the main entry on the right, and there is a gender-neutral restroom there too. Staff is friendly, helpful, and easy to find. Parking is available on the street (free, no meters). I also met a very sweet and friendly shop cat wandering around. Bonus points for the shop cat. Note - as with any large building full of really cool very old building materials, there is a pervasive musty smell in the air, so if you're sensitive to those things (allergies, asthma, etc.) a mask might be a good idea. read more

A great local option , when you would like to repurpose/reuse home furnishings, instead of buying new . Buffalo Reuse is my go to when looking for architectural items , but a great resource for purchasing vintage cabinets, windows, doors , light fixtures, radiators , bathroom vanity/sink , as well as some decorative pieces . I have seen furniture used on movie sets , old chalkboards , beautiful stained glass windows , vintage wood fireplace mantels, and the list goes on . What I find interesting is often the volunteers on site know the history of some/many of the items . I recently purchased a 6 pane window that came from a home built by prolific local architect , Duane Lyman , developer for the Saturn Club in Buffalo . My friend wanted stones to put in her garden and everywhere was freaking expensive. We came here and not only found stones, but bricks and every other knick knack you could ever want for your garden or home. The cost was an 1/8th of the cost at every other joint in WNY. You also get the added benefit of knowing you are saving materials from being sent to the dump. There's everything from doors, windows, toilets, door knobs etc. Its a smorgasbord of cheap stuff for your home. The only negative is that most of the people working there are volunteers so they had no idea how much things cost. It probably took us half an hour to check out because the volunteers had to figure out how much to charge us. Overall: If you're looking to do anything around your house definitely come here first. Don't expect this place to be as organized as the big chains, but its still pretty neat for the large amount of stuff there is in this joint. What can I say??? A huge grey cat, looking just like my husband's sainted cat "JON" awaited my arrival while sitting upon the check out stand. Life doesn't get any better than this. Buffalo ReUse used to be a solid 5-stars in my book, but it has gone a bit downhill in the past few years. As with many volunteer/non-profit groups, they've clearly struggled with financial and human resources--but I sure am pulling for them! Their store is located in a large, old industrial space and filled with all kinds of architectural gems: old doors, windows, light fixtures, cabinets, sinks, and more. Additionally, you'll find building materials stacked in their loading dock area. In recent years, they seem to have added a lot more random "junk" though--more like thrift store goods than building/home supplies. That's not really to my taste, but maybe others like it. The building is not in great repair, so watch your step and prepare to find areas closed due to roof leaks. If you have allergies/asthma, you might want to skip it altogether. Also, most things are not priced, so you'll need to ask and maybe haggle if you find something you like. (The store's lovely gray cat, Oscar, has also moved on up in the world and is now living at home with one of the folks who run the place!) So, I'd love to give this more than 3 stars--and I hope I'll be able to upgrade in the coming years. It's a great venture and has tons of potential! read more

Buffalo ReUse is a unique and great resource for folks in Western New York. Most folks don't know but the #1 waste stream comes from building materials and supplies. If we can re-use and cut back waste from the built environment, we are doing the earth a favor. Plus, if you are re-habbing or renovating a space, you will undoubtedly find lots of treasures here. Unfortunately, the store now only has weekend hours, but they will come to your home to pick up gently used building materials, which is great. Definitely worth checking out... if you're adventurous. It's definitely not your father's hardware store, and it definitely isn't the big orange box store. read more

I will forever kiss the ground that Buffalo ReUse walks on! From marble sink tops to lumber and vintage victorian wooden doors, this is your one stop shop for all DONATED building supplies. Not to mention, the awesome "Grand Piano" placed in the lobby-- which ReUse encourages anyone to take a shot at playing! I was only able to breifly skim over the all of the hidden treasures there, as my purpose was to volunteer for an Earth Day event where all volunteers cleaned and planted shrubs in an empty lot on Jefferson ave. Do you love second hand stuff? Kitschy junk? Diamonds in the rough? I-could-never-afford-this-at-an-antique-store furniture? Do you work in contracting, interior decorating or just like to update your home and build fun stuff for your property? Then this is THE first stop you should make. They literally have almost anything you can think of to repair or refurb a home - windows, doors, lumber, appliances, sinks, toilets, furniture, shelving, cupboards, hardware, hardwood flooring, handrails, decorative trim, shutters, lamps, bath tiles - and loads of incidentals like books, skeleton keys, mirrors and home phones. Sure, it sounds like I work her and I'm writing them an ad but I don't, and I'm not - I just get that excited about cheap used stuff. This place is thoroughly awesome; it is a site to behold in its massive grandeur even if you don't come with something in mind. I bought two comfy vintage diner chairs (yellow and chrome) to match my 1950's kitchen table, a funky 70's cupboard, and picked up a couple of needed knobs for the cupboards in my storage room for about $15. Plus I got to pet the giant, fat cat that is running around - win win for everyone. What makes this place extra cool is while many of the items are donated, a huge chunk of them come from Buffalo ReUse's "green" tear down projects, wherein they salvage virtually every part of a home slated for destruction to either be reused or recycled. Yes, in a perfect city we wouldn't need to tear down houses - wonderful, hardworking people would swoop in, buy them, fix everything and start living there - but in reality these houses would just be torn down by traditional means. If you stop to consider the thousands of pounds of waste that would wind up in landfills from a home demolition (and the many useful items wasted) this is an excellent business model that really needs to be expanded. You NEVER know what you will find her, and if you like them on Facebook they frequently post pictures of new arrivals. The last time I stopped in they literally had almost an entire kitchen (bottom and top cupboards, counter top, sink and dishwasher) all together for like $700. Holy. Freaking. Crap. Service was also friendly and helpful. There is technically no "lot" to park in but there is parking right up next to the right side (if you were facing the front) of the building and no one seemed to be hanging around or bothering anything (for the inevitable person who will question, as some of my coworkers did, if it was "safe" here). Open only weekends. Ample parking & some nice volunteers , but on the whole , not good ! I hate to bash a non-profit , but the huge bldg. needs to be condemned : tripping hazards , leaking roofs , & broken windows abound . Most of the mdse. is non-salable ( countless doors , disco toilets / sinks / tubs ) . Most of the labor help r juvenile delinquents in a work program . The butch manager is delusional w/ pricing & a tad abrasive . The poor locale is in the heart of the ghetto . For better architectural savage shopping , I would recommend gothic antiques on niagara street in buffalo . Buffalo reuse on DuPont & e. Ferry streets needs to be transplanted to a better neighborhood , and a safer / smaller bldg. w/ heat . Inventory needs to be thinned by 70%. Volunteers need better guidance , and most of the paid staff needs to be fired to make room for new management . read more

Man this place is huge. Been there a few times now and love the randomness of it all. It's like a flea market without needing to bargain. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but items are sorted in sections of the buildings. You need to know what you're looking for and how to look at a joints like this. Stuffs pretty cheap and worth the time to pop in from time to time to see whats new. Not much has changed in the past 6 months that I've been monitoring but its still fun to go to. read more

Really good prices on an insane amount of salvaged house parts and furnishings. Don't expect much in the way of customer service/assistance but if you are looking to get authentic parts to rehab an old home or are looking for 2nd hand furniture and appliances, bring a friend and grab what you need. Went there because we in need of a base cabinet. They had one but would not sell it unless we bought like 10. While we walked around all the filth and junk I became sick to my stomach and could not breathe. The next two days I had trouble with my asthma. Not sure what happened but the place is dangerously filthy and should be shut down. read more
