I am not an expert on this topic but I was impressed by the whole experience. The check in process is modern and quick with very friendly staff. There is a store but I did not really look around. 1 1/2 hour ride but worth it. Found this spot clean organized, knowledgeable, and customer friendly! Some spots (they will be nameless) they carry a bravado attitude that I find sad due to some lack of self esteem issues. They had various spots for Rifles, Shotguns, Handguns, but the most interesting spot was " The Pit"! Wanted to take my youngest to get comfortable with Firearms. What a positive range this is. My youngest had a very positive experience, without any negativity. All of the Range Officers were kind, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable, so looking forward to returning again! Living like we bulletproof We bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang I say we load it, cock it, aim and shoot... Yep I just quoted a Ludacris song--I felt it was more appropriate than say Ariana Grande or Ricky Martin in this specific instance. None of that actually has anything to do with this place--other than I wanted to add a song with the word bang in it :) Pretty awesome outdoor range with a variety areas to shoot: Pistol, Rifle, steel sign pit, and a regular pit. Check in is super easy, to save some time if it's your first time, be sure to fill out the waiver online, otherwise they are available to fill out in the office. The line and office can get crowded with large groups or right around opening time---event though they move pretty quick. If you have your own guns feel free to bring those or like others mentioned you can rent. The range officers were all super nice and very informative/helpful. Protective eyewear and ears are a must since it can get very loud and there are shell casings flying around all over the place. You can bring items to shoot in the pit---if you don't bring any, you can also purchase some items like bags of flour/2 liters/etc----we brought some random large stuffed animals---next time will plan better and find all the creepy holiday stuff in the attic from yesteryear. We got lucky when we went the weather was still relatively nice, but cool--so be sure to check the weather before heading out. You can bring your own food and drinks if you want, but there is a really decent grill hut on site for some no frill eats. Had a blast! Definitely going back again! read more

I took my fiancé here for sweetest day. The park is absolutely gorgeous. It looks like there's mountains behind you, he had a really good time shooting in "the pit". I thought the prices were very reasonable. I paid $30, which gives you access to the shooting range all day. It's $20 to rent a gun, and then the ammo is all priced differently depending on which gun you choose. The pit was fun. There's literally tons of stuff to shoot at, stuffed animals, car parts, pumpkins, soda bottles, 2 L, balloons, just anything people decide to put down there. There's probably thousands of things to choose and shoot at. They also have a really nice area for you to sit down and relax and eat. They have washrooms available, a small little eating area that has ballpark food, and they have a ton of parking. read more

The staff is super friendly, the environment is outstanding, and a special thank you to DAN, the range officer. Dan stood by my car when the range closed and talked to us for a while! The only bad part of the trip is our fault, we assumed that they would be open later than 4 pm, so we took our time driving up and got lunch, so we didn't pull in till 3 pm - so we still paid the total price, but the hour was worth the money! Visited for the first time on Saturday 11/31/20 with my wife and son. My wife and I have shot at many of the local indoor ranges but my son is too young for indoor ranges. He was looking forward to shooting his new Ruger 10/22 for the first time. The Double Deuce was a ton of fun for all of us and we had a great time at The Pit. My wife and I shot at the pistol range and it was perfect. Facility - A+ Check in Staff - Amazing and so courteous!!! Range Officers - it was our first trip and they were great explaining everything and made sure safety was of upmost priority. Felt very comfortable at each area we visited. Buffalo Grill - double cheeseburger and Chicago Dog were delicious and the staff was great. Had a major surprise when they announced that they were going to play the National Anthem!!!! Gave me the chills to hear the National Anthem while I was exercising the 2nd Amendment rights. God Bless America. Can't wait to head back and spend more time there. The ranges themselves: clean, well laid out, and well organized. The employees: all very nice and friendly. The problems with the check-in process: No masks worn by employees in the indoor registration building and no requirement for customers to wear masks. Despite customers being shoulder to shoulder across their 30 foot wide check-in desk and within 3 feet of unmasked range staff when checking in. There is no option to register outdoors. The problems with the grill: a lack of hand washing. Handling all kinds of things, transitioning between food items and non-food items, and not following basic food safety protocols. The in-your-face nonsense: owned by or at least their social media run by QAnon supporters "where we go one we go all" right on their Facebook page. And they play the national anthem and ask everyone to stand and play along with this patriotism theater. read more

Range isn't bad at all, but whether you enjoy your day will depend on if the range officers are in a bad mood or not. Apparently a requirement for hiring them is to have a healthy chip on your shoulder and a distain for all the customers. This is by far the best shooting range available within 50 miles. There's a place​ to shoot nearly any firearm you have. Don't have it? That's ok, because they do. Rentals are available, all the way through full auto. "The Pit" allows you to bring your own items to shoot at, including stuffed animals, old televisions, and those no longer wanted bird baths. I'm pretty sure that as long as it's​ never been alive and doesn't explode on impact, you can bring it down and shoot at it. The range officers and other staff are very nice, and happy to explain anything you're unsure about. They have a whole safety regimen​ that includes triple verifications. There's a snack shack, and they'll even allow you to bring your own grill. Great fun for the whole family, and at an affordable price. $30 for adults, $25 for veterans, $15 for 15 and under gets you an entire day of shooting if you're up for it. I'll be back! read more

Very friendly, nice and helpful staff all around. We drove 1.5 hours and was welcomed with open arms. My wife and I used the Pistol range. I do wish the Pistol range had distances greater than 20 yards. Everyone was friendly and obeyed the rules. This is a great outdoor range to take 1st time shooters and novelists as they will have no pressure and will be able to focus on learning. I stopped by the Pit to see the setup and it's a nice setup for those with AR's and the like. Fun setup with your own water bottles, jugs, etc. Another great feature is how how ranges are I sync by going cold/hot to ensure the safety of everyone. We'll done! The most helpful gun range I've ever been to. The hour and a half drive from Chicago was well worth it. Came in to sight my shotgun up, which I was having problems with, only to come and find out that the sight I was sold from a different location was broken (probably from being dropped ). The gunsmith was extremely helpful. Without him, I would not be hunting this year. The range officers, if I had a question, they would break their backs, helping explain it to me. . One thing I consideration every single time I go to a new range is safety. These guys take safety as their top priority. I can honestly say I've never felt safer in any other gun range in my life. So that being said, if you are sighting in a gun for the first time, wanting a wonderful experience with people that take safety as their top priority, going out for an all day shoot fest, bringing someone to shoot for the first time, THIS IS YOUR PLACE !!! read more

I used to visit here regularly a few times each summer. I have become more and more disappointed every time I come here. This range continues to adopt more and more petty rules about what exactly you can shoot and what you can't shoot. The worst part about it all is the range officers have terrible attitudes and when you unknowingly break one of the many newly created rules that you have no knowledge of the range officer treats you with absolute contempt. Being a douchebag is apparently a requirement to hold a job here as a range officer. I used to be a range officer at a gun range downstate and we would have been terminated on the spot for treating customers the way range officers treat people here. The job of a range officer is to ensure that people are handling firearms safely. It's not the range officer's job to verbally abuse people. It's truly a shame that this place has gone downhill. Shooting at stuff in a pit is a real thrill and an experience but the terrible attitudes that the range officers have outweigh it. I won't be back. read more

Me and a couple of buddies took the drive 1 hour 40 minutes from Chicago,Not bad Once we arrived you could hear the ammo and smell the gunpowder. Check in was Smooth as I did it online the night before, We got stamped and our instruction (from this nice Lady) and we took off (They do offer Military discount).Ammo a little pricey but reasonable.(3-4 penny off). The Safety Rangers are on point and aware of the area. 5 stars for safety...We did the 50 yards and then 100 yards and took a break went back to town to eat and returned to do the Pit. Awesome day will be back next time with more people nice place..Way better hen a enclosed gun range a must try for all.. read more

I live less than 5 minutes from Article II Gun Range in Lombard, but Buffalo is so much better place that I will drive 1 hr and 10 mins to go here instead of going to Article II. I was always put off by the rude behavior of the range personnel at Article II but lived with it because of the convenience. The final straw was when The Slob (that's what I call him) called me an idiot for using their online reservation service that didn't work. All I found at Buffalo were pleasant and helpful people. The older gentleman at the office is always helpful and courteous and has always thanked me for coming out to visit them. The Range Officers are very professional and do an excellent job of keeping the range safe - I was impressed by their efficiency and attention to detail. The staff at Buffalo is always friendly and that makes the experience that much more pleasant. Keep up the good work - I love coming here and will not hesitate to bring groups here. read more

I recently took my son to this range for his birthday. It was our first time here and I have to say the hour drive from Chicago was worth it. The staff was friendly and answered any questions I had. I had my son shoot from the 100 yd range and the RO was really professional and thorough when it came to explaining their safety procedures. Buffalo Range is a great place for an event with family or friends. A large outdoor range is also a great place for children and other inexperienced shooters to learn without too much pressure. You can easily spend the whole day there with the various shooting ranges. They've also been updating their equipment and making several range improvements over the past few years. I've been going here for ~ 10 years, and it seems to get better each year. The only disappointment is that they no longer allow 50BMG, but that was due to the state AG, and not their own decision. read more

I've been going here for over 20 years. Since the reopening after all the saftey and EPA clean up there is a rule. They won't allow a hand-loader to recover his or her brass even though all weapons are unloaded and clear. Your only allowed to walk to the targets in front of those same firearms. What this place seems to cater to is all these "New" shooters and all the CCW crowd. Price increase for 2019 to $30. What they don't understand is I shoot more than those new folks because I load my own. The more I shoot the more often they get my $30. Needless to say I will be going elsewhere to shoot. AS this place punishes re-loaders. read more

Buffalo Range Shooting Park is an all outdoor public shooting range. Shooters pay a daily fee (30.00), and have access to all ranges, all day. The range safety officers are amazing, helpful and very safety oriented. You're allowed to bring in picnic lunches, and even grills. No alcohol, photos or videos are allowed. I recently took the conceal carry class at Buffalo Range offered by Final Defense Inc. The instructor, Jeremiah Brown (JB), is a policeman. As an adult educator I can say JB has very good teaching skills which makes the 2 day class go by much faster. When I researched the instructor required skills and topics to be covered I thought, well at least I'll have fun shooting off a few rounds. In this case I was mistaken. Carrying a loaded firearm is serious business and I for one am thankful for the perspective given by a law enforcement official. I appreciated the fact he consulted with the local states attorney. I may have misstated the title of the legal arm representing the police department he consulted, but the fact remains he added an additional perspective from the point of view of attorney on conceal carry issues. I had the opportunity to discuss a conceal carry class offered in Florida that a family member had completed. His knowledge of conceal carry issues were severely lacking. In fact, the firearm qualifications were a joke. He shot off a few rounds at a target 7 feet away. If anyone is interested in actually learning about concealing a loaded firearm and the ramifications associated with using that firearm, I strongly urge you to take the class. I would also urge those that have a firearm at home and are not interested in a conceal carry permit, to take the class. read more
