I had a very weird and unprofessional experience here. I had emailed Eileen directly and scheduled a consultation, she also invited me to an open house which I attended today. The home she works out of is absolutely beautiful and her staff is made up of the loveliest, kindhearted people. Unfortunately, it was Eileen herself I had the lousy experience with... she entered the room, I had mentioned our upcoming consultation and she had no recollection of it. She said she didn't have me on the books and that I must have emailed another midwife. I told her that her name was on the email and that I still had it. She then remembered our email conversation but still didn't set my appointment. She then said she would do my consultation today during the open house. Things got weird. Instead of an open house, I appeared to be in the middle of a staff meeting that carried on for a while. I started to feel out of place. I asked if I had the time and date right and I did. A couple people started arriving and after a few conversations here and there, Eileen took me aside and said she was not accepting new clients.... uh... what? Then why are you having an open house? One of the doulas, a wonderful woman by the name of Shannon, could tell I was upset as I gathered my things to leave. I explained what happened. Concerned, she clarified things with Eileen and came back to tell me that Eileen just doesn't want to do hospital births anymore. I made it clear in my email that I wanted to do a natural birth in a hospital setting so why did Eileen waste my time by inviting me to this open house?? Meeting Shannon was the one saving grace of this whole backwards day; she sat down with me and gave me recommendations for other midwives and doctors whose views were in line with mine. She and the rest of the staff were lovely, but I was really disappointed with Eileen. read more
