I recently went on these boats as part of a team building afternoon with my company. I will admit, the reason I did not try this sooner was because of the expense, and the inability to fill a boat with friends who want to pedal away and hang out on the water! We went out on a gray day, and we knew the rain was coming, but we were prepared. We dressed appropriately, and the captain and first mate explained that we would need to turn back if we saw lightning, for safety. That was totally OK, and we all understood. The crew was friendly and incredibly professional. People tend to forget that boats are serious vessels, and you can easily drown, and need to know the safety procedures. They got that out of the way quickly, but we were fully informed of all the safety procedures and protocols (including the lightning warning). We spent an hour heading out to the lake, had a bluetooth hookup so one of us could DJ while we floated away. The center part has 2 deep coolers where you can load up ice, drinks, etc. You can bring whatever snacks and drinks you want! We had a wonderful time chatting, pedaling, drinking and noshing. We were caught in the rain but thanks to the roof we didn't notice! We all stayed totally dry while on the boat (we did get a little soaked running form the boat to our cars, but that's to be expected!). There are port a potty's at the launch site so you can feel at ease that there is a bathroom. There is a large sign to tell you where to go when you arrive at the parking lot. There is a sunshade and picnic tables while you wait. You have to park in the apartment complex lot, and you just head towards the water- it's not hard to find, but use your GPS if you are unsure. It was a really nice adventure, a great team building event, a unique experience, and definitely something to try this summer! read more

I was recently a guest on a boat ride booked for a friend's birthday so I can't say anything on the booking process but we were lucky enough to have the owner as our driver who gave us some information on the history of the business. We rented the boat for a 2hr tour, they dock on the Ohio Street side of the Buffalo River so don't make our mistake by parking at Riverworks. (Our mistake) Once we got to where we need to be they were very accommodating to you and it's an easy trip. No glass bottles but you can bring your own coolers, bags and canned drinks so our crew had an assortment of wine, beer and ciders. In the center of the bar, where the bike seats and peddles are, are two small cooler areas where you can dump your ice and place your drinks. The top of this bar can comfortably hold plates, etc. In addition they have the hookup to connect your phone or other USB music player or you can use their radio system. The deck of the boat is comfortably spaced so no one is sitting on top of each other at the bike seats and still walk around and behind people. In addition there is a bench for sitting at the front of the boat. That is most open spot on the boat, meaning the canopy does not extend over it which isn't really a problem. The two hour cruise is comfortable, starting from the dock and going back into the Buffalo River, I have never been that far back and had no clue the Buffalo River extended that far, I had actually thought it turned into a small creek much sooner. Because you are on the inland river, even on a windy day the waters aren't choppy. The only time the ride was bumpy was when we got to end where the river meets Lake Erie (Miss Buffalo dock). Overall this was a great experience and I highly recommend the ride, an enjoyable cruise along the waters as kayakers and other boaters cruise along. Well our ride was more of a party boat but the people around us seemed to be entertained and oh, you dont have to peddle to power otherwise we would still be stuck in the middle of the Buffalo River. read more

Terrible time. Weather forecast was 90% thunderstorm the entire day, but instead of cancelling and refunding/rescheduling us the tour went on. 10 minutes in it was raining and shortly after the thunder and lightning started. The boat turned around and we were notified we'd be getting a 50% gift card to return and told we should be grateful they're looking out for our safe being (I don't doubt that part, but it was used to get us to appreciate the credit). We got not even 1/4 of the experience but we're told we'd only get 1/2 our payment back, and we're still waiting on that. Very disappointing, many people in the group are out-of-towner's so rescheduling is very difficult and I am not inclined to come back beyond being forced to use our credit from the disappointing trip. read more

It is BYOB, but no glass allowed for safety reasons. You can also bring food and play music through their sound system! We were lucky enough to have the owner as our Captain and he was a super fun addition to a boat full of fun people. Not one of us had any intention of pedaling, but no worries since they have a motor! We went up the river a bit, then turned back to head toward Canalside. The views are spectacular, and the vibe was perfect. Make sure you park on the opposite side of the river from Riverworks as they dock by the apartments/Tewksbury Lodge. read more

We booked a 5:30pm trip on a Saturday night with a bunch of friends for my birthday. I forgot to enter the promo code when I booked online and emailed them about it, and they promptly responded and applied the promo code to the reservation anyway - great customer service! The boarding location was a bit confusing but there is a sign at the parking lot entryway, you just have to walk to the left of the building (if you're looking at it) by where the porta-potties and picnic tables are and wait there. It would have been helpful to have another sign there to indicate that is where you wait, but it was fine. Anyway I got to request the music the entire boat ride cause it was my birthday so that was nice. There are built-in coolers on board so you can just bring a bag of ice with your choice of beverages. It does stop halfway through to allow you time to use the bathrooms so that was definitely helpful for our birthday booze cruise. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Tell me if this makes sense. A group of 13 people pay $50 each to ride this boat for 2 hours. Our trip lasts less then 30 minutes then is called off because of bad weather. (Not even 15 minutes later it turned to sunshine) They tell us the best they can do since we "technically had half our trip because we left the dock" is to give us a 50% off credit for the next time we book with them. Oh how generous when half the people who came don't even live in this state, so not only did we give them $650 for a 30 minute ride, the best they could do is charge us only $325 the next time we decide to book with them again. Definitely seems like a company you wanna give your money too! But don't worry the one guy assured us they just bought a new 3rd boat so they'll still be open for at least 3 more years! I wonder if they paid for that boat ripping off other parties like ours. If you do book with this company I would make sure the weather is forecasted to be clear and if not ask what their cancellation rules are ahead of time because supposedly once you "leave the dock" you aren't eligible for money back. Even if your trip lasts less than 1/4 of the time you paid for. Absolute JOKE!! read more

Recently I attended a surprise 50th full of family and friends. Unfortunately our captain nick happily ruined the entire experience from the start. Upon arriving to our group clearly pissy without introducing himself he rudely gave us the run down of how things were going to go not what to look forward to. His polite way of telling us not to pop the champagne at the roof was him referencing how "Some bitch did that last week" and that he "threw a towel at her and told her to clean it up". The first of many more comments to come using foul language at his job towards a party. Within the first ten minutes we started noticing our captain making calls off his walkie talkie having the co captain in charge as she told other members on the boat she was confused why she was driving. As he kept stepping away from her to make calls she confirmed to my friend who rented the boat the captain "was being mean". Not the type of energy you want during a surprise 50th. Cruising around for only an hour out of the two paid for we abruptly docked and were greeted by 12-14 buffalo police officers, two sheriffs and a coast guard on the way. Nick was quick to jump off the boat and run towards them as we and the co captain were all left confused what was happening. We were told by police a 911 call was made that someone on our boat was waving a gun around and threatening everyone. No one in the entire party knew you could not carry a legally permitted fire arm on the boat. There was no information about that through the companies waiver or through nicks rude rundown prior to boarding. Regardless after talking with police nick quickly drove off so fast that his tires were screeching leaving his co captain by herself. The birthday boy who was carrying his legally permitted firearm did no such thing and never brought it out once I myself didn't even know he had it. After being told by police the situation was blown out of proportion we were able to grab all our things and head out from our short horrible time on this boat. I sincerely hope the company takes action with this employee and no one ever spends that much money to get treated this way. read more

Had a chance to try Buffalo CycleBoats during a Yelp event, and I had a great time! I love that they encourage you to bring your own food, drinks, and music, so you can enjoy your ideal party as you paddle down the Buffalo River with friends. It's hilarious to laugh and wave at other boaters and pedestrians (yup, you look ridiculous, but you have a cooler full of beer and a big awning over you), and the time goes by fast. You'll learn some new Buffalo trivia from the captains, many of whom have operated local history tours in the past, and see some Insta-worthy panoramas along the way. And if you're worried that you're not physically up to the challenge of 2 hours on a bike seat, know that you don't have to constantly pedal to power the boat (though it can make you go faster). If you can, book an evening timeslot so you can watch the sun set over some of Buffalo's best-known waterfront landmarks. read more

I am a business owner and we planned an evening for our staff and spouses to go out on Buffalo Pedal Boat tours. 12 people were meeting at Buffalo River Works for snacks and drinks before boarding. We received a phone call stating our trip was cancelled. We were all very disappointed.
