Used a Class Pass to get a mani pedi and quick massage. I was a little surprised they use different polishes for ClassPass customers, as I found out when someone who appeared to be a regular patron redirected my focus to another set of polish bottles. The manicurist helping me was very kind, however, and did her best. The polish came off within a few days. I would have hoped for at least a week. I discovered this place on an accident a couple of years ago just walking in Downtown. The windows are large, so it's easy to look inside. Salon looked very nice and very clean, so I decided to come back for my pedicure. You can easily schedule your appointment online, which is very convenient in our digital age. They will also send you text messages as reminders for the appointment. They have a big variety of nail polishes. Staff is very nice and attentive. I was surprised when Danielle, my nail technician, asked me about my mom. She remembered I brought her here a year ago. I saw previous reviews, mentioning staff doesn't want to have a small talk with you. I am not expecting it, but I always have nice conversations with them. Complimentary mimosas are also nice. For downtown upscale salon they are pretty reasonably priced. Of course, you can find cheaper options in town. But I've seen one of the cheaper salons using their regular mani/pedi towels for floor cleaning. I'd rather pay a little more, but know I will not get anything weird at the place. I haven't tried any other services but pedicures, but I'm pretty happy with my experience. read more

I ended up with some free time in the area one afternoon. I got online and was able to schedule within an hour. I input my payment information and created an account. Hands free payment is the only acceptable method after you've gotten your nails painted - yay! I scheduled a pedicure ($45) and fingernail polish change ($10) (they have to match right?) since that would fit into the time I had available (45 min pedi + 15 min polish change). I'm regretting not getting a mini manicure with Melissa, but I'll do that when I have a bit more time next go round. I was greeted upon arrival and offered a drink. The Rose was delicious. My appointment started exactly on time. It took exactly the amount of time stated, and was worth every penny. Melissa took her time yet wasn't slow; most importantly she didn't overdo anything - over cut or over scrub etc. I wasn't rushed to leave, which was also a pleasant difference from other places. When my nails were dry all I had to do was verbally confirm my service and tip, sign the screen, and head out. No messing up my nails reaching for my wallet. Best of all my feet and legs feel great. The polish still looks perfect! I've cleaned my house, volunteered at a dog adoption event, among other tasks - I am generally very hard on polish so don't get manicures BUT my nails still look perfect! Great place to get your nails done! The nail stylists are talented and quick. Plus the prices are reasonable and they provide complimentary alcoholic beverages to those 21+. Per my preference, I chose regular polish manicure ($25). I am a fan of the polish (OPI) and products they use. My nails looked beautiful and still do after 5 days. They also excel at gel manicures. The nail stylist working on my nails did not talk much and moved across the room to give a different client a pedicure as soon as she finished my nails, so I was unsure how long to let them dry. I ended up letting them air dry for a while. Overall, I recommend this establishment for manicures. They offer other services, but I have not experienced those. I was able to get an appointment online Wednesday night for the following afternoon. I enjoyed my experience. I've been doing my own gel for years and have never had anything happen like what has happened to the gel manicure I got yesterday. Within hours, the gel started oxidizing and turning brown. I am not from here, and made the appointment to have fresh nails for a fancy dinner reservation we have tonight. So, I don't have access to my tools to remove and redo my manicure. I've tried calling and messaging the business to see if they could remove the polish for me, but no answer as of yet. Regretting paying $50 for a manicure that looked good for only a few hours and having to buy polish from a store to cover it for our dinner reservation, until I can get home tomorrow to remove it. read more

I needed a gel manicure for my upcoming trip and boy was I disappointed. I've been to buff beauty bar before and had a great experience- but not today. The lady that did my gel was just terrible. She was chatting to her co - worker the entire time she did my nails causing her concentration to be off point. I knew this because she hardly even looked at my nails while she was doing it. The edges around my nails are rigid and the lining is completely off. I also don't think she added enough clear after because my nails looks more matte than gloss. This was a clumsy effort that I had to pay for. I don't think this gel is going to last at all. Apart from the poor application - the hand massage ( light rub) was literally as quick as the light went off on the gel machine and honestly there was no point to it. The whole experience was unprofessional and just poor form. The "cleanup" around my skin was not really cleaned up properly either. At the end - after feeling quite disappointed in myself for not saying anything as I honestly didn't feel comfortable in the situation ( like many women do) - she was quite abrupt and never asked me once if I liked the nails. She just told me I can wash the oil off in the bathroom and she left. It was like less than 30 minutes of a gel manicure application. This has truly put me off going there. Considering I'm leaving on a flight tomorrow I will need to find another nail salon to remove this terrible gel manicure and re-apply. I'm so livid at this entire situation and extremely inconvenienced. read more

Cute place, I like that they offer drinks and have online scheduling. My tech did a great/thorough job, but whatever top coat used over the white polish yellowed very quickly, not a cute look. The pedicure station is a bench situation and, while it's good for photos, the bench isn't deep enough to be that comfortable, the cushions slide around, and there's nowhere to set your drink. My biggest hang up is that, especially as expensive as the services are and as bougie as they want their image to be, customer service is pretty lackluster. We came in from out of town and Google tried to direct us down an alley that was closed for construction, so I called for some help getting there. The guy who answered the phone could NOT have been more disinterested, and could barely be bothered with trying to help us get there (there was lots of sighing on his part). When we did arrive, he barely greeted us, showed us the polish, and then went back to the desk (in sweatpants...). We also realized that our appointments had been screwed up, and, while the owner fixed it, I felt like I was being accused of lying and had to pull up the appointment confirmation to prove it, and that whole situation made me feel really uncomfortable. Because of the mix up, one pedicure started late, the tech seemed extremely put off by having to do a pedicure, and literally told my friend (who worked on her feet all day) that she "didn't have time" to take care of "all of this." My friend almost cried, and I'm really not sure how anyone could think that was appropriate. Since this is an upscale salon, you pay a premium for the services. I absolutely do not mind paying extra for a great experience, but there is no excuse for poor customer service. Danielle, my nail technician, was very unpleasant and condescending. I do not expect or care to have a full-blown conversation, but a simple friendly greeting and pleasant attitude would be nice. Is that too much to ask? Not to mention I was scolded for "not holding my thumb correctly." To top everything off there was a flaw in the gel manicure at the end. She asked me if I wanted her to re-do it. Trying not to be too much of an inconvenience, I told her she didn't have to, and she didn't. Finished up the service, didn't thank me or say another word to me. It was very uncomfortable. The ladies at Buff Beauty Bar were my saviors on my wedding day! Last Saturday, I was getting married and noticed I had ruined my manicure I had done at a different salon the day before. I went to Buff with no appointment around 11 am, and they were able to squeeze me in for 11:45 am. In the meantime, I told them I was extremely sleepy from all my wedding duties and events, and they let me take a quick nap in their wax room, where they brought me a blanket. I found this spot on yelp. I had polished my toes before I left home to cone to NOLA, but when i got there, it just peeled off. Not a good diy polish job i guess. So I looked for a place to get a mani/pedi. I went by to see if they had availability, they didn't right then, but made me an appointment for a couple hours later. The place is cute and clean. It's bright and has a chill vibe. I liked that i saw techs of all different ethnicities, that was lovely!! I got a mani/pedi with Melissa. She was very nice and did a great job. She didn't rush, which was appreciated. I don't know if it was the application, the polish, or me...but my nails chipped by the next day. Within two days, half the polish from my mani was gone. I ended up going to CVS and getting polish remover and just taking it off. Then a couple of my nails broke. It was at that moment that i remembered why I almost never get a manicure. If breaks my nails and the polish, it just doesn't last. And NO, I didn't get gel (since a couple people asked me that were with me), that just peels right off my nails too. The price point was great! I paid $70 for a manicure and pedicure. Back home, I could pay that for just a pedicure. read more

Stop the presses: it's finally happened: I've found my nail salon in New Orleans, friends! If you've read any of my reviews for spas/salons (Buff is more than just a nail salon), you'll notice that I have serious pedi anxiety. As in, it's generally something I do because I *have* to, not because I *want* to (I mean, living in a city where 10 months out of the year it's warm means for maximum foot exposure. And I'm prone to peelin' heels). What I appreciate here is that you have the mini pedi option (ie, they do away with the unbearable-to me-foot massage and it's about 10 minutes quicker), and instead of overbearing "massage chairs" (sorry, more like torture devices), there's a comfy cushioned bench that runs along the wall. So, there goes the pedi phobia. Other stuff: -a glass of red, white or Champagne offered upon arrival (and what's more, it's good! We're not talking cheap box stuff, but bottles from local purveyors, Keife & Co. Just one of the little extras that sets Buff apart from the competition) -fabulous color selection in both regular polish and gel -competitive prices with other salons in town, while at the same time offering a superior environment and services -no technicians making fun of you to their coworkers in other languages (c'mon, you know they do) -on that note, very nice technicians that are easy to talk to and most importantly: Kim gave me the very best gel manicure I've received, possibly ever. It was evenly painted, did not at all peel off (so common when you have tiny nail beds like I do, not to mention super short nails) and I didn't see my nasty jagged cuticles again for at least a week. Oh, and can I just mention how in love I am with the ORIGINAL tile floor? It's just lovely. 5 stars-- visiting from out of town it's scary to try some place new and only go off of reviews to make a decision to book a blow out. But I am happy I did. I received so many compliments on my hair. For the price I paid I felt like a star. It was well worth it. Found this place via Yelp about 2 weeks before the event when looking for a blow dry bar for a wedding I was in NOLA for. I was traveling from Los Angeles and obviously about nervous venturing off and finding some random person to do my hair. Admittedly so I've gotten some scary results from others who obviously didn't know me, my style, my hair type, etc... My hair is stick straight and thin. So I was super pleased with my blow out which was pretty classic-- soft curls, little messy, but tight enough to hold up for 6-8 hours. Happy with the price- $25 for dry blow out (i washed and dried my hair before arriving). But I think the full blow out with wash/ dry is only $10-20 more which is aligned with LA Dry Bar prices. Scheduling was easy. I called and spoke to someone on the phone. They ask for a card # to hold the reservation but they have an option to do it online too. Location is convenient if you're staying in the CBD. I was at the Le Méridien, which is close to a lot of touristy spots and it was an easy 10 minute walk. The location and over all look of the place is very chic and trendy. Staff was pleasant and friendly. I would definitely recommend and go back when I am in the area again. read more

I was able to book an appointment that day with Angie who was incredible. The place is clean and bright and very welcoming. I haven't been to get a mani/pedi in 6 years, so I was definitely looking for a special experience. Angie was so sweet and gave me great recommendations for things to do during my stay in NOLA. I have some TOUGH feet and she got all of the roughness off and did an amazing job with my pedicure. Last, my manicure was amazing. I had been really excited to try this place for a gel manicure, even though some of the reviews were less than stellar, saying it was not worth the higher price and some of the nail technicians weren't so friendly. Unfortunately, my experience here fell in line with those reviews and the whole experience was just not great. When I arrived, it started off well as I was offered a beverage and it is a cute, clean place! However, I don't know if my nail technician was having a bad day, but she was just not friendly and did not seem happy to be there or to be doing my nails. That is okay, I like relaxing and don't need anyone talking to me but a smile wouldn't hurt! Also, the only thing she really ever said to me was when I kept trying to hit the UV light button a second time for my nails, she would say "one time is fine." I'm sure she is correct, and I didn't need the UV light to hit me a second time, but I'm just sitting there and it made me feel slightly better, as if my nails would last an extra couple days with more light! But after she told me again to essentially not bother, I felt a little uncomfortable, as in I wasn't supposed to push the button again. My favorite part of a manicure is usually a hand massage and there was none. She slathered lotion on my hands and the "massage" lasted literally 3 seconds. Maybe that is how they do it there, I am not sure. The whole experience just was not worth it. It costs about $9-10 more than where I usually go (gel was $35 here), and other places in the city also offer wine and actual hand massages for the less costly price. Maybe it was just an off day, and I like to give places the benefit of the doubt which is why I gave 3 stars, but after this one experience, I will not be going back. The nails themselves look fine; again, not worth the higher price in my opinion. Buff Beauty Bar is a little underwhelming when you first arrive. It's in a refurbished building that seems like the insides could use a little fluff itself. A swipe of fresh paint and refinished flooring (please keep the tile look) would do a world of good. So when I first arrived I was a bit skeptical. The hair chairs are located up stairs and there are four of them. They were very comfortable. Pros: Clean and bright. Nail tech did a good job. Cons: Waaaayyyy too expensive for what it is. I travel a lot and have had amazing mani/pedi services for less than $84 ($70 + tip). I did not want to penalize the nail tech by not tipping her. Suggestion: Give a complimentary back massage IN ADDITION to longer hand & leg rubs if you are going to continue charging those prices. Had a simple blowout at Buff. Well...simple compared to up-dos and other things they're capable of there. Atmosphere is friendly & relaxed (decor is somewhat stark but that's ok). I was taken precisely at my appointment time & received one hell of a blow dry from a very skilled darling of a stylist. After growing my hair out, I've been feeling rather blah about it because it's so thick & heavy it doesn't hold style for long. She changed that with some magician-like round brush techniques that only a gal who lives in a humid climate with long hair could whip up. I'm writing this review 12 hours after the fact, after walking many miles in NOLA humidity and my hair still looks luscious. Full of body & even some adorable waves here & there. Best part? Zero hairspray required to keep it that way. My day was much better for having visited Buff! read more
