We came here for a surprise birthday dinner for one of my officemates. Almost everything we ate that night was perfectly prepared! Actually, this is a great place for a date or romantic evening. Even though we were a group of 4, we all enjoyed each other's company and the vibe of the place.
We started with the sangria, which was light and refreshing, topped with fruit and a decent amount of alcohol. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the tapas. We ordered the Chorizo Picante (dip some of their bread into the spicy oil, so good!), Croquetas de Queso y Pimiento, and Tortilla de Patata. For the main dishes, we ordered the Estofado de Res and Paella de Marisco y Pollo.
Now, there are many Spanish restaurants in Manila. However, the true test of a good Spanish restaurant is if they cook their Paella right. There is the Pinoy version of a paella and that's basically mixing semi-cooked rice with tomato sauce and dumping a sh*tload of ingredients on top of the rice (which is how most Spanish restaurants prepare their paella in Manila). Buenos' paella is done the right way: a) they use medium grain rice leaving you with rice that is not sticky or creamy like risotto, b) their paella has socarrat! This is the crispy bottom of the paella that becomes caramelised and toasted when it is cooking. The best part of paella in my opinion. Very, very delicious paella! If I had more tummy space, I would have tried another paella on the menu! :)
If you are looking for a quiet evening with friends with good food and a wide selection of wine, you should all try Buenos! I am definitely going back and I might even try their Sangria promo! read more
