'Been craving for angulas. The husband said that he knows of a place where they have it. But it got busy that we weren't able to go. Finally, while browsing for some restaurants to hit when in Manila, I chanced upon Bar Pintxos which has good ratings and reviews. I made a reservation via Messenger 2 months ago and they were quick to respond. It was not until today that I learned that the restaurant the husband was talking about is one and the same. The restaurant is tucked in a building by McKinley Road and 5th Avenue. The place is small. They have outside seating. But it can get warm and humid. Thus, reservation is necessary to secure a table. The ambience is cozy. It has a full bar but it is not noisy. The decor is simple and not tacky. The wait staff are friendly and courteous. The menu is adequate. They have traditional fares such as chopito frito, boquerones, burrata, rabo de toro, albondigas, gambas al ajillo, etc. we didn't find the angulas but did ask for it as that was what we really came for. And luckily, they do have it but it's not just on the menu. It's actually gambas y angulas al ajillo. So you get a combination of the shrimp and the baby eel. It was soooo good! We also ordered the chopito frito, salpicao and paella mixta. The baby squid were cooked properly, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. The salpicao was tender and juicy. I found the paella mixta a little wanting in ingredients but it was still good as the rice was tasty. The serving size is expected of tapas. So don't expect big dishes like in regular restaurants. But if you order 3 or 4 dishes, you should be good for a full meal. The tapas range from P250-500 a dish. So expect to spend about P900++ for two. I was pleased with the wine list. It was not extensive but it had the ones that I love (Cava, Torrontes, Albariño and Tempranillo). Definitely on my favorite list now! read more
