This place deserves infinity stars! To say that our visit to Buehler was my favorite is an understatement. APPOINTMENTS Visits are by appointment only and incredibly easy to make. I sent a message to their email address and Misha promptly responded. GETTING THERE It was a bit of an adventure driving to the property. Cell service eventually gave out, but we were provided clear instructions on how to arrive. The grounds are breathtaking! Such a peaceful and beautiful setting. I would have loved to walk around more, but it was a bit rainy. TASTING We arrived a bit late, but that didn't seem to be a problem. We were greeted and given waters. Then greeted once again by Blue the cat who stayed with us during the rest of our visit. We were fortunate enough to be led through the wines by the owner John. He was incredibly personable and wonderful to talk to! We had a great conversation, made even better the wines. Each wine more delicious than the last. My favorite was the "Papa's Knoll" Cabernet - we had to took one home! read more

What an amazing tasting experience! This was by far our favorite of the weekend. John Buehler is an amazing human - one part John Dutton, one part humble wine enthusiast. The property itself is beautiful, and includes a long winding driveway down to the tasting room - which starts at the top and has horses (who are super friendly - we fed them treats John provided us on the way out). The tour of the facility/production areas was great (and surprising to see all of the equipment on site). The tasting was a great history of the winery, John, and his family. The tasting room has lots of photos to support this rich history. Toni and Blue - the resident cats - are incredibly friendly (please see photos) and are happy to sit in your lap while you taste. The wine was all really good - and at a surprisingly low price point for the area (on purpose, which is amazing). We of course ordered some wine to be shipped back home - and are excited to enjoy it. We will absolutely be back - highly suggest if you want a very personalized wine tasting experience! read more

My review for this place is long over due. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Hands down the best tasting experience you will get in Napa. Johnathon Buehler was an amazing host and we had a great time tasting and exploring the family owned vineyard. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and gave us an awesome tour of the place. There is a lot of history so it was cool to learn about the family and their experience with the winery. We tried many different wines sitting outside in the garden. You will need to call in advance to schedule an appointment, but you will be the only ones there for the tasting. It is a very private, non touristy tour and I don't know any another winery in the area that offers the same experience. Also, he just so happened to have his PUPPY Cavalier King Charles that we got to bring along with us throughout the tasting (+5 stars). We tried many wines and the Papa Knolls cabernet was our favorite. You will want to make sure you either drive or have a driver that can wait around until you are finished. My boyfriend and I mistakenly took an Uber since we didn't have a car, but the winery really is tucked back in the hills (about 30 minutes off the main road). There is no cell service and dirt roads, so it can be difficult for an Uber driver to find if they do not have directions from the website. When the tour was finished and we were trying to order a car, we realized we had no service. Jonathon said he was on his way back to town anyways, so he offered to give us a ride back(+another 5 stars!!!!). He went above an beyond to help us out and we were amazed by the level of hospitality. This place is an absolute hidden gem tucked away in the hills. Can't recommend enough and will definitely be back next time I am the area. read more

My wife and I visited 7 years ago and again on this trip. We had fond memories of our past experience and this one did not disappoint. We were greeted with wine to taste as we enjoyed our sandwich lunch with an amazing view. Jonathan then lead us on a tour of the vines and the wine making process. He was a great tour guide and shared lots of insights on the process we had never heard before. We ended with a stop in the tasting room to sample those wines we hadn't yet. We visited Buehler Vineyards on our vacation in Napa last month. We had tasted their Cabs before and really enjoyed them. We scheduled an appointment for a tasting and tour. The journey there is quite interesting - best for smaller vehicles and off the beaten path. We were greet by John who provided us our tour and tasting. It was enjoyable as we had the tour/tasting to ourselves. We thoroughly enjoyed our time chatting with John and learning about the family/property and wine. Their wine is very good and priced very well. I highly recommend visiting them during your time here. Allow a minimum of 2 - 2.5 hrs for your time at Buehler between the driving time up, tour, tasting and back to the Silverado Trail. There is no charge for the tour/tasting, but you will end up purchasing wine to take home with you. We did purchase the wine and had it shipped to us. The wine arrived a few days ago and brought back memories of our time there. read more

Buehler was on our 'to do' list for Napa. We were introduced to their distributed wine at a local restaurant and knew we wanted to taste their wines that are only available from winery. The drive was a distance up the hill, but we are glad we made it, the drive itself is beautiful, so enjoy the leisure drive. We met Mr. Buehler and his son Johnathan Buehler who gave us a "no rush" tour. Johnathan explained their process for making wines and gave us a tour of the various areas of the winery, including the bottling area. The property is beautiful and the wine was delicious!!! I've been to some other wineries but this place exceeded my expectations. Very private, no rush, very friendly owner, and generous. My two other friends plus one child really enjoyed the visit. Well we didn't get a chance to go to very many wineries on our working trip to Napa but this one by far was the best. The estate was beautiful and this family owned and operated vineyard is a hidden gem. From the long windy one lane driveway that takes you over a pond. To the ambiance of the estate itself. My husband I and visited Bueler a couple weeks ago during our anniversary trip to Napa. We were greeted immediately by Jonathon and he poured us their chardonnay after we made ourway inside. I'm not a big chardonnay fan but this was one that I happily finished. Throughout our tasting, we enjoyed our conversation with him and he even had us taste some produce from their garden. He genuinely seemed interested in getting to know us and not just the generic small talk you usually encounter with tasting room reps. The wine was also very good and I was pleasantly surprised that most of the wines we tasted are available in retail stores. We ended up leaving with several bottles and I'm sure we will visit again when we go back to the area. Highlight recommend! read more

This vineyard is by appointment only and up on Howell Mountain about 4-5 miles from the Silverado Trail. We were greeted by the owner John and he was a real pleasure to meet. His son Jonathon was our host for the tasting. We brought our daughter to Napa for her 25th birthday. I joined the wine club and took some bottles with us. The Buehlers have had the property since the 70's and make a very good selection of wines at great prices. I highly recommend making an appointment to see this beautiful property and taste their excellent wines. Thanks to Jonathon for making this a special day for our daughter on her birthday. read more

An exceptional vineyard with an even more exceptional owner/purveyor. We were fortunate enough to get some 1:1 time with John last weekend. He is beyond friendly and accommodating and his wines are fantastic. You will be rewarded with some of the best and most affordable Napa Valley wines out there. Their top of the line Papa's Knoll Estate Cabernet is just $50 and the dry farming they do on this particular old vine lot produces an impressive, muscular wine with considerable depth. It tasted wonderful now so I bet it will round out nicely and taste beautiful for years to come too. Their Zinfandel is fantastic and finishes off with a hint of toasted oak and a nice slight peppery finish and at $20 a bottle is what I would call a steal. We tried the Cabernet and the Estate Cabernet as well and ended up taking home bottles of each and signed up for their wine club. Seriously, get in your car and take the 15 minute drive off the Silverado Trail to see Buehler. Get off the madness that is Highway 29 and get to the peacefulness and tranquility of this place. You will be treated to a beautiful drive, probably won't see more than one or two cars along the way and will be treated to a truly wonderful wine tasting experience. Maybe, just maybe, you will get to meet el jefe John as well. Make sure you call or email as they are reservation only. Be nice to them and perhaps, in addition to your tasting, they will reward you with a fantastic tour of their stunning property high above Lake Hennessy near the base of Howell Mountain. Not the easiest winery to get to through the twisting Howell Mountain Road, but definitely worth your drive to enjoy the wonderful hospitality at this place. 2001 Chardonnay This wine is made with purchased grapes from Russian River. Sweet nose of vanilla, cloves and light oak. Buttery ripe peach on the palate. Clean, nice weight, and a hint of oak influenced burned sugar finish. 2000 Zinfandel Estate grown fruit that will be ripped on in the near future to plant with Cabernet Sauvignon. Light fragrant nose of red fruit accompanied with flavor of dry strawberries and cranberries on the palate. 2000 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Another good 2000 vintage Napa Cab. Black cherry nose with a touch of spice. Black cherries with well integrated silky tannin rolls onto the palate. Not one bit of green in this wine, a lovely wine to drink now and over the next few years. Surely deserving it's 90pts from WS. Keep your eyes open for their 2001 Cabernet release. read more

Buehler Vineyards is a beautiful vineyard over a tall mountain on St. Helena (only 30 minutes away from Napa Valley). The drive up was absolutely breathtaking, and upon arrival, the vineyard was the reason why you want to visit wine country. Me and my friends received a private, dedicated tour by Jonathan Buehler, who taught us about the various wines produced at the vineyard. We brought some specialty cheeses to enjoy with our wine, and got to try some of the home grown veggies at the vineyard (absolutely delicious!). Jonathan was knowledgeable, funny, and made us feel right at home! We strongly recommend this hidden gem, it is well worth your time. read more

What a hidden Gem, and a must visit! The family owned wineries that put their heart and soul into wine making continues to slip away from the valley as large corporations continue sinking their teeth in. This winery couldn't be further from that notion, and the family on site is wonderful. as a side note, dont be alarmed by the location, gps/waze will guide you right to the gate for entrance, it is well worth the 3 mile journey off the main road. Jonathon Buehler met us for our 10am tasting, and we had a great time visiting with him and learning about the intricacies of a small winery process, and touring the beautiful grounds. He went above and beyond to be so welcoming and friendly, definitely someone i'd enjoy breaking bread with and enjoying a bottle or 2 of wine with. I am a "car" guy and saw a stunning C63s packed in the driveway and mentioned it to Jonathon, 15min later we were in the car checking it out and listening to the twin turbo V8 purrr. Just above and beyond service and family feeling, yet i haven't even mentioned the wines yet. The red wines were just what me and the wife love, big fruit forward cab's that are for drinking during any occasion, the wines are exceptionally valued at prices i'm still shocked by when you consider the other prices in surrounding areas. The wines were fabulous, please go see for yourself and support this awesome family and what wine making is all about in the region. I wont visit Napa in the future without a trip up to Buehler. read more

Off the beaten path but so worth the trip. This was my second time visiting. First time owner John took my husband and I for a tour and talked about the history of the winery while we tasted. This time, 3 of my friends and I were hosted by John's son Paige. Had an informative tour, and then sat on the patio overlooking one of the vineyards while we tasted all of their great wines. We all loved the reds including a Zinfandel and 3 cabs. The Estate Cabernet was a favorite for our group. We all bought some wine to take with us. Very reasonably priced by Napa standards. Of the 11 wineries we visited on our trip, this was one of our favorites. read more

We've visited Buehler a few times on our annual pilgrimage from MN to Napa/Sonoma. The wines are wonderful, and the scenery (both the drive and from the property) is gorgeous. In the past we've had the privilege of tasting with owner John Buehler. On this occasion, we were tasting with his son Jonathan. Jonathan, who has been involved in the winery's operations from a very young age, shares his dad's passion for their product. He was entertaining and knowledgable, and showed us around the property to explain how they make their wines. We sat outside and tasted through the Buehler offerings; our favorite has always been (and remains again this year) the Papa's Knoll cabernet - Delicious!! Though all their wines are amazingly crafted; even the non-Chardonnay drinkers had to admit theirs was delicious. If you find yourself in Napa and want an authentic experience without the facade of a stuffy tasting room or a staff who turns over often and doesn't really understand the product, I urge you to make an appointment at Buehler and enjoy what Napa wine is all about. Buehler Vineyards is a real find, true family gem! Of the vineyards we visited, Buehler was our group's collective favorite for sure. It's a bit of a drive up toward Howell Mountain above St. Helena, but 100% well-worth your time because the experience here will linger with you. We loved the wine as their Papa's Knoll Cabernet and Buehler Estate Zinfandel are perennial favorites of ours. Jonathan was a fantastic host, with a sharp wit and made us feel welcomed to the family property as old friends. Full disclosure, this was not our first time to Buehler Vineyards, but as repeat visitors with a very fond first-time experience with John Buehler, you never know if that return visit will live up to your memory. This visit did not disappoint - just solidified our feeling that Buehler is a special family operation and the real deal, true authenticity here. We're also animal lovers and so appreciated getting to hang with the cats and dogs once again. To get a glimpse of this beautiful hillside property and spend some time here at this small family winery will be a highlight of your trip, I promise. We had an amazing tasting at Buehler. The appointment was a quick and friendly call the morning of our tasting. The road to the vineyard is small and twisty but we worth it. We didn't have any problems with the GPS on our phones but they have PDF directions available on their website. When we arrived I was not expecting the long beautiful drive from the gate to the winery. We had originally planned to picnic there but didn't have time to pick anything up. If you get a chance it would be a special lunch. Once at the office we met with Jonathan Buehler. He not only gave us a wonderful tasting but was great to talk with. We learned all about the history of the family, the property, some fun things to do in town, restaurant recommendations, and, of course, the wine. The wine was all very good and reasonably priced so we were happy to ship some home to Texas. Highly recommended to get away from the crowds and snobby tour hosts in the valley. read more

My parents and I visited Napa Valley this past August for my 21st birthday, and on our last day in town we stopped by Buehler Vineyards. I meant to write this review months ago, as they were so wonderful, and this should absolutely be a stop while you are in Napa. Getting out to the vineyard is a bit of a drive, and you'll want to follow the instructions they post on their website very closely, but it is absolutely worth it. My parents and I were given a really interesting tour of the estate and facility and then tasted wines for what must have been almost two hours. It was such a relaxed, beautiful setting, and the Buehlers were incredibly generous with their time (and the wine - maybe don't schedule a tasting before noon or at least eat enough food to counter the alcohol!), never making us feel rushed. If anything, we had to duck out on them sooner than we would have liked in order to get to another appointment. If you choose to visit, try not to schedule anything else for several hours after your appointment with them so as to avoid missing out on your time at this vineyard, and to allow for the roundtrip drive. They also have the sweetest animals at this vineyard, so if you are a cat/dog lover, you'll really enjoy getting to meet the pets. After sipping wine, talking to Jonathan (one of the sons of the Buehler family who spent his time with us) and playing with the super-adorable kitty, we left with several bottles of great wine and a really sweet memory. We visited close to ten vineyards during our stay in Napa, and Buehler was definitely in our top three for the whole week. Thank you guys for such a wonderful experience! read more
