I originally called the shop where I bought my aftermarket LEDs about 10 years ago, but they quoted me $300 to replace them. That felt pretty steep, especially since a big chunk of that was just labor. From the research I'd done, I knew the technology had come a long way and that swapping them out shouldn't be much more complicated than changing a standard bulb these days. Luckily, I stopped by the AutoZone on 82nd in Happy Valley. Bryon, the Parts Manager, was awesome. He walked me through my options and even assured me I'd get the same or better performance than my old LEDs. What I really appreciated was that he insisted on installing them for me right there. It turns out Bryon used to be a Service Advisor at Oregon City Subaru, so he definitely knew his way around my Impreza. While I probably could have figured it out eventually, Bryon saved me a ton of time and hassle by handling the install himself. If you're in the area and need someone who knows their stuff, definitely go see Bryon.

Hybrid's have a battery in the trunk, but almost intentional to make DIY extra tough getting the bracket off in a tiny, dark space. Will try myself to put the second bolt in later. I would have not been able to get the difficult bolt out without returning home 4 miles away had he not been there and it was obviously new to him as well. But, they do install when others won't and most other installs are probably a breeze. Also, this is a bigger store with more inventory and more workers.

DO NOT COME HERE, What a crook! I booked a $350 service with Joe ($65 deposit) for Saturday morning…read moreto surprise my wife with a detail for her birthday/Mother's Day. I drove 30 minutes from rural Oregon City for my appointment at 10am. I paid an uber to follow me there and take me home so I wouldn't have to wait there for 4 hours. Upon arrival Joe does a quick inspection and the following convo took place: Joe: Do you park your car outside? Me: Yup, we don't have a garage. Joe: Well this changes everything... Me: How so? Joe: I can see little pieces of chewed up plastic in the carpet indicating you may have had a rodent at some point trying to make a home somewhere. Me: Oh yeah, living rural, you will occasionally see signs that a chipmunk or a mouse has been there. Comes with the territory. Joe: So yeah, this is gonna cost extra because it could possibly be a biohazard. Me: Go on... Joe: So I'm going to have to suit up in a hazmat suit to do the entire job. Me: Ok well, we emptied out the entire car last night so it would be ready for you today and we didn't find any evidence anything hazardous. No dead mice, no critter droppings etc, just tiny pieces of chewed plastic in the carpet. Joe: But still, just in case, I'll have to wear the biohazard suit the whole time and that's gonna cost extra. Me: Ok - we're already in $350, how much to put on the suit? Joe: An additional $150. Me: Gotcha, well I don't have the extra so what would you like to do? Joe: Well if you don't have the extra, I can't do the work. Me: Ok fine, if you're cancelling on me, please just refund me $65 at least. At this point Joe lost his cool, he refused to refund the deposit despite the fact it was HIM that cancelled on ME after I paid the deposit, drove all the way and paid the Uber. Like a coward, instead of explaining why he is pocketing my $65, he just said "the website says non-refundable". I explained to him that that would be acceptable had I been the one to no-show him or something, but he's telling ME he can't do the job without the suit. And that suit costs $150. But because I don't have an extra $150, I'm now out the $65. He then closed the garage door on me and locked me out! He wanted $500 to detail my wife's car and when I only had the $350 quoted, he decides to keep my $65 for doing zero work. I hope the temporary $65 was worth a bad review. I'm disputing the charges with my bank for services not rendered. Things happen, I get it. Don't punish the customer if YOU decide to change the price at the last minute. That's slimy, creepy and it's taking advantage of the situation. Joe wants to pretend this is about a safety issue but in reality it was about him keeping my $65 after telling me I couldn't afford his services. Scumbag. TLDR: Agree to pay for extra stuff upfront or he'll refuse the service and it'll cost you your deposit and you'll walk away with no services performed and you'll be out $65 plus whatever trouble you had to go through dealing with him. BEWARE!!!
