I originally began this article with WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO? This car rental group at the Reno-Tahoe Airport has been pretty solid in the past. We've always been satisfied with their efforts. On today's visit we were exposed to a whole new system that has a lot of people angry. Time was you'd reserve your vehicle, stop at the counter in the airport and they hand you keys. Away you go. There was even a period where the keys were already in the vehicle and they'd give you a parking space number.... off you go! Today we left the counter empty handed and were instructed to go sit in the parking garage. There's a new area with benches for you to relax while a porter delivers your rental to you. While everyone was belly-aching about this new system, I noticed it only took about 15 minutes and Lewis took the time to explain some nuances with my rental vehicle. This review is for the disrespect of the people on the inside. I am a fast break member and the booth outside was closed. Yet the man inside was so rude didnt even ask if they had any fastbreak members so that we can grab our keys. Our car was already booked and paid for. Yet he has us waiting in the whole line when our car has been ready for an hour and a half. Sad part is hertz right next to it was asking if anyone in line was oart of the gold tier or something and gave them their key right away how are you doing? I'm a fast break member. Open counter, clean space I have yet to experience excellent care. I today, unknowingly chose the manager window, or she c chose me. 3 customers behind me we serviced and in their loaner vehicle while I remained at the counter and the car I requested wasn't available. So unapologetic. I get out side to the pickup window and the attendant directed over there to the left. All the while knowing the space number, which was so easy to write on the contract sleeve. I usually don't post complaints, but this one was too much to ignore. Picking up a rental should be simple: you reserve, you pay, you drive. Instead, here's what happened: * Long wait at pick-up. Even with a confirmed reservation, I stood in line for over an hour. * Poor communication. Staff couldn't clearly explain why there were delays or if cars were even available. * Vehicle condition. After finally getting a car, I inspected it and found dents, scratches, and a low tire. When I asked for another, I was told "that's all we have." * No accountability. Instead of helping, they rushed me to sign papers and move on, leaving me worried about being blamed for damages later. Lesson learned: Always inspect your car carefully before driving away. Worst car rental experience. The initial line took over and hour. Waiting for the keys to the our car took another 2. They were disorganized and unprepared. Many people were waiting no for an hour plus, and then a few people came out and were immediately given keys. The staff doesn't know what to do or how to handle the mass amount of people waiting. read more

I booked a last minute Budget car after I had to alter a car rental due to flight cancelation and a date change with Hertz and they tripled the daily rate. At Sacramento airport you take a bus shuttle to the rental area. The shuttle took a while as we waited at the airport. Once at Budget desk the process was pretty quick. Once we returned the return was super easy. The entire rental Minus the waiting for shuttle was decent. read more

DON'T USE! We rented a car from Reno and used it to travel to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. We returned the vehicle to San Francisco airport. Days later, we were charged $450 as a cleaning fee for sand in the vehicle. Unfortunately, we took delivery of the vehicle in an unclean condition, as it was the last vehicle left that would fit my family, and it was a long travel day. But now we are being charged to clean that mess we accepted upon delivery. I suppose I could understand a small fee for cleaning the inside (even if there was no trash left behind - we had to clean it every night due to bears, and even had a small vacuum with us for that purpose), but $450 is not reasonable. The company would not speak to me to resolve the issue. I am attempting to resolve this via our AMEX account, but I wanted others to be aware so that they could avoid this scam by using another rental company. read more

The operation in RNO is a disaster. None of the employees seems to have any idea what is about to happen. The vehicle I selected is not what I received. The one I received was damaged and the damage had not been recorded. I had to spend additional time wrangling an employee to get the damage recorded. Once underway I learned that none of the collision enhancement systems worked either. Returning the car was a similar experience. No one greeted returning customers. whoever runs that operation in RNO is in need of admonishment. read more

OH MY GOD. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS TERRIBLE PLACE. I rented a car in 09/2022 and the passenger door was squeaking, but we didn't realize it until after we left since I was the only person picking up the car. When we found out, we were already on the road so we just made a note to tell the place once we got back. When we returned the car, we told the inspector and he noted it to take for fixing. 2 months later I got a $1500 bill stating I needed to pay for damages, which I was so confused. I called them to see what this was for, and they were claiming I damaged the back right of the car. They sent me photos and the report, but this was completely fabricated because we did not do this and the car was completely inspected on arrival. I complained and it took me a few calls, but the company was trying to scam me. WHATS EVEN WORSE WAS I WROTE A REVIEW TO LET PEOPLE KNOW and the company/Yelp erased it!! save your self time and hassle and take a uber to the other budget rental down the street. This airport budget is terrible. You're gonna sit in line for about 20- 30 minutes. Then they send you outside from 20mins- hour for them to bring the car up. The system they have in place is child's play with calling twice per car to get rental ready not including how they hand the key to driver to bring your car isn't in the right order. I waited a hour before I had to step in and say something so with line and all hour and a half easy. Also get your car online they will hassle the sale against you at the counter making u spend the most. read more

Yep. All the stories are true. I usually do hertz and thought why not, it's $300 bucks cheaper so I'll give it a try! Well I've been in line for 20 minutes, There's a line of about 14 people and in this entire 20 minutes, the one person working here has only seen one person. This airport doesn't have fast break. Went to the desk and was helped right away. Was able to get my brother on as a secondary driver very easily. Wanted 4 wheel drive so she changed my car from a Jeep to a Subaru. Was happy about that, especially since she did not charge extra for the swap. We were told to wait out in the garage near the budget kiosk. There was no warm place to wait. Seemed like we waited awhile in the cold. But since we had swapped cars, it wasn't ready right away so i should not complain. The car itself was awesome. Lane guidance. Back up camera. Cruise control. Clean. Powerful. I've never driven a Subaru but I loved it. Lots of trunk space for our ski equipment. Rented through Costco travel and I'd easily do it again. Great car. Great service. Easy return. read more

Their customer service is terrible, and I'm a Fastbreak member, my interactions with them should be minimal. When I fly into Reno it is usually just for a few hours so my time is very precious. This last time there they updated my reservation which cancelled my prepaid rental, and increased my rate. After speaking with the manager I had to pay the full rate on the spot even though my prepayment was already sent to them. She said it would be sent back as a refund. I said fine since I did t have time to spend there arguing. I get the first vehicle and it had a crack in the windshield. I returned it immediately and they give me another vehicle. The second vehicle was dirty and had bird droppings on the windshield. By this time I have already spent 1 1/2 hours of my 8 hour trip just trying to get started. I ran the wipers and it cleaned the drivers side which was good enough for me. At the end of my rental when gassing the vehicle up I tried to clean the droppings on the passenger side wi shield and noticed a chip in the glass. When I returned the vehicle I pointed it out to the technician who accepts returned vehicles and he said it was fine. I thought nothing of it until til I received a letter in the mail stating they are charging my credit card $600 for the repair. Stay away from this agency. Their cars are run down and they will charge you for whatever they deem is your fault. read more

I should have read the reviews!!! Terrible service. Rented a car they gave me a SUV smelled like an old motel, cigarettes with way to much spray to try and mask the smell. Right after he hands me the keys he says no smoking and walks away. Airport charges extra fees and taxes that other budget rentals don't in Reno. I recently rented a 12 passenger van from Budget Rent-A-Car. The whole process was incredibly easy and quick. The staff at the front desk were courteous and helped me by answering every single question I had as this was my first time renting a van of this size. Upon returning my car rental the staff was very helpful and even help me remove my cooler from the car opening the door for me and sharing in pleasant conversation about the use of the vehicle. The return walk through staff were just as helpful and friendly. Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning staff gave exceptional and speedy customer service. read more

Very disappointed in the service here. Asked for any color but silver when we arrived at the desk. Looked at papers handed to me with the keys to our rental car- SILVER! We were able to get the car exchanged for another. When I asked about directionals showing up in the side, mirrors and upcoming cars, the employee said all the cars were new and had that. NOT! Ours didn't. It was 6:00 PM on a Tuesday and no one was in the parking lot to help us set up CarPlay. The windshield wiper fluid light was on low the whole trip, as well as the tire symbol on and off. We were quite disappointed in the service at Reno. I had to wait 1:55 mins to receive my car. I waited 1 hr, 15 mins in line to get my car. Once I checked in, I headed over to pick up my car and had to wait 40 more minutes to receive my car. I had to hunt someone down in the area to request the keys and car. I was so upset I wasted all that time. This is the second time I had this happen--last time was during the Summer time as well. This rent a car place doesn't even deserve 1 star!!! They don't have your car ready even though you reserve the car online & put in a time you will be there!! We still had to wait over 1 hour till a car was finally ready!! And of course they start charging you from the time you say you will be there to pick it up!!! I reserved the car online through Costco and was promised a price of 230.00 for the weekend!! I filled the car back up with gas literally before I drove into the airport parking lot to turn it in & they decided to charge me 251.00 instead of the price Costco promised!!! I get an email from someone at Budget apologizing for charging me for gas and asked if I had the receipt to prove I filled the car up (even though the gas gage was above the fill line on the car!!) which of course I had!! I took the time to respond to him, telling him how disappointed I was & sent him the receipt & still they don't refund me so that I'm given the price I was promised!!! NEVER RENT FROM THIS PLACE. I wish I could give 0 stars. Open my statements and see I was charged 1100$ !! Was told it was for a broken windshield I returned the card perfectly fine returned it fully fueled and everything. They also charged me for a jeep wrangler which I remembered I was going to use but went back and asked for another vehicle because the check engine light was on and I was charged for an F-150 I never used. I got charged 300$ saying I didn't return it to the same spot I picked it up from the airport and returned it to the same spot these people are frauds Never rent from this place this will charge you for vehicles that are already damaged and claim it was you. My rental was supposed to be $190. Customer service cancelled it by mistake and rebooked it for $220. After i had already paid the $190. And they still charged me a $150 cancellation fee although i never cancelled. My rental ended up being $734 for a two day rental. They have very very sneaky shady business practices. Of course no one will get on the phone and fix this. Hopefully my bank is able to. Do not rent anything from here. I wouldn't even borrow an ink pen from them. It'll probably cost you $500. Needed to take a quick trip to California but my car was running a lil rough. Figured I'd grab a rental, but looks like i could have just gotten my Audi fixed for the same price as this rental. This is a 2.5 review. My check in experience was quite entertaining actually but Budget should be ashamed. The guy checking me in, who was very nice, was certainly embarrassed and kept apologizing to me. The lady who appeared to be in charge hates her job and the company. A lady called Cindy was checking people in and seemed to be working hard. Suddenly the manager lady appeared and started yelling at her about her lunch hour. At first Cindy was quietly trying to defend herself but after a while her voice raised slightly too. And the supervisor started yelling at her to stop yelling. When Cindy left for lunch the lady in charge came to talk to the guy checking me in about something unrelated about the incompetence of all the staff. Then she turned to me to start telling me how done she is with the company! Budget needs to send their staff, and especially their managers, on a customer service training course. read more

The absolute worst experience ever! It has been 2 weeks since I cancelled my reservation and it has yet to be resolved. They are still holding a $500 charge for a reservation that I cancelled! When I was originally booking it was only supposed to be $240 but when we arrived to actually pick up the car they added on a bunch of extra charges and it ended up being over $500 in the end. So we said forget it. They even gave us a receipt of cancellation that showed we were never charged but it is still pending on my credit card 2 weeks later. I have rented cars from Enterprise plenty of times and never had hidden charges come up, and they accepted my debit card. This place refused a debit card, and added double the charges we originally agreed to. Here I am trying to get this resolved 14 days later and it is a nightmare. What a pleasure. Easy, cheap, no pressures to buy insurance, etc. I rented a nice, four-door Kia Soul to drive up to Tahoe for the Yelp Tahoe Getaway this long weekend and only ended up paying $103 for for 4 days! The rental experience started on Thursday morning with a no hassle pick-up from the airport location. We headed into town, using Yelp to find us a great lunch place (of course). Then up to Lake Tahoe! We drove all over the place on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until returning the car back to Reno at 3:00pm. Absolutely no issues at all with the vehicle or the rental experience! I'm a fan and will be renting from Budget again! read more

The really helpful guys in the garage across from the airport where you actually pick up the car almost make up for the woman who waited on me at the Budget counter. No eye contact, brusque. How did she get a job dealing with the public. Does Budget send its counter people to the DMV for training? To a hospital admissions office? Y'all might want to hire some folks away from Enterprise. Not really sure why the Budget has such poor reviews but our experience with the car rental this weekend was good. First of all, it was the cheapest I could find for the weekend. Friday night-Sunday morning rental for about $48. We were supposed to get a Ford Fiesta but since they didn't have any left, it appeared we were upgraded slightly to a Ford Fusion. The car was maintained well: clean in the inside, clean on the outside, tank full of gas, and drove smoothly without any problems. For a rental, that's all you can ask for right? The pick up and the return was quick and painless and took us no more than 10 mins each time. Overall, I was happy with the service I received here. read more
