This was absolutely ridiculous of a rental. Was renting due to an accident. I brought the car back and was told there was "a dog hair" and I could possibly be charged a $450 cleaning charge. Returns are horrible there was a crack in the front windshield that they didn't notate but I took a picture now they are trying to charge me for it. Told them absolutely not it was there when it got rented apparently I should have done their job for them. Now they want to charge me a cleaning fee for dog hair mind you no dog was ever in the car!! If I could give a big fat ZERO I would have used that! I had a last minute change in plans while on vacation in Galveston, TX, I looked online for rental cars in the area and found this location to be the closest. I called budget/avis customer service to verify that this location had cars on site and ready for rent that day. I was assured that my vehicle that I rented was indeed in the lot. I ordered an Uber and headed that way. On the way to the location, I received a call from the counter rep stating that they didn't have the car that I rented and that "if I wanted a car from them I would be charged $15 extra a day for an upgrade"! I stated that I had called to verify that my vehicle was on the lot ready for rental, the counter rep stated "well, she lied to you", you will need to pay $15 for an upgraded vehicle." This is totally unacceptable to say to a paying customer when that is the company that you are representing! (Reluctantly, because I was desperate and was in need of transportation, I agreed to pay the extra for an "upgrade".) So my original bill was suppose to be $55 dollars per day with Govt discount with fees and $200 deposit it should have been $263 ish. When I got to the location the girl behind the counter tried to charge me $302. We were able to figure out the bill enough to get a set of keys and get to the vehicle. When I get to the vehicle, this vehicle had not been cleaned inside or out and had several areas of damage. As seen in pictures. For reference I used this vehicle to drive from La Marque to Houston George Bush airport. I was charged $115 for six hours when it should have been $63. This is by far the worst customer service I have had in years by any company. Do better AVIS/BUDGET!!! read more

4 star = Good. I guess I'll bring up the ratings a little bit. I'm sure the others experience bad service as described, and I appreciate their reviews because I was better prepared, which made my experience better. I arrived at 12:30PM on a Sunday to return our car. We met an employee outside who told us that we can just leave the car and keys there, and he'd take care of it. Prior to leaving my home, I had called Budget's main number to ask what I should do to protect myself from potential overcharge and was told to take photos, so I took one of the car w/the storefront and also took a photo of the toll transponder to show I returned both; the photo would provide the meta date for time and date if there was a discrepancy. After I unloaded our luggage, I did go inside to speak to someone and confirmed that I could just leave the car there. We hailed Uber; while waiting, the guy we original spoke to did whatever he was supposed to w/the car. It's just that we're used to someone scanning the vehicle and handing us a receipt, but by the time I got onto the ship, the receipt was emailed to me. My experience was pretty positive, but that could be because the rush was over. Prior to arriving, I called this location several times during business hours, but no one picked up, which could be worrisome (if you rented from them and had an issue, etc.). Info not related to Avis/Budget: This location is in a huge outdoor mall, so you can get last minute items at the Dollar Tree, which we did prior to returning the car. It's about 15 miles from port. Uber was easy to get, but the first person did cancel on us, so don't wait till the last minute. Boarding was fairly simple. read more

The car I picked up was dirty, 3/8 tank of gas and no wiper fluid. I called and let them know. When I returned the car, it was vacuumed, full of gas and wiper fluid. I usually wash them too, but it was raining. Imagine my surprise when I got hit with a $165 cleaning fee. I was told they had pictures, but wouldn't show them to me. When I contacted customer service, I was told that I would be refunded as a courtesy, but if I were to be sent the pictures, then no refund! Super shady to me. read more

This place was terrible! It hadn't opened yet when we arrived but there were about 15 of us with reservations waiting to go in...the guy sitting at the desk just stared at all of us waiting...finally after about 5 mins he waved us in only to wait in line again since only one person was checking people in. I felt bad for some of the people because they were trying to catch a cruise ship....horrible customer service!!! One guy was walking out to escort a customer to their car and both of his shoes were untied like he was being taken away from something... after an hour my fiancé and I still no car....I WILL NEVER RENT WITH AVIS!!!! read more

I rented from this location two times recently. One time on the front end of a cruise from the port of Galveston and a week later when the cruise was done. When I dropped the first vehicle off I was told to hand in the keys and that "I was good". Well, it took over a day for them to actually check the vehicle in. No surprise that they also charged me for the excess time! I got that refunded, but it was a hassle. Fast forward a week and I pick up a vehicle. This was a one way rental dropped off at the airport. Looking at the receipt the next day, they added additional coverages without saying a word to me. Not one single word. Beyond that my Fastbreak account specifically denies those coverages. Two cases of being overcharged in two transactions? I question whether or not these "mistakes" were intentional. Either way, I believe this is a horribly run location. I'll definitely go elsewhere next time. read more
