Motel 6 Of Gilman - What do you see??? Critter droppings...nice. Wonder if you would find such items at the DQ which they own..

Pros: - The owners here are absolute sweethearts!!…read more- I asked about vehicle safely, and they said there's never been a break-in in the 39 years they've been running this place. Gave me peace of mind parking there - Room has a fridge, microwave, flat screen, table - Very clean. No bugs, yay!! - Truck parking available (I travel with a 24' box truck plus a 20' trailer, and they had a gravel lot for big vehicles) - Great price at ~$61 - Visited during summer, and the room was warm when I arrived. A/C unit got the room cold in less than 10 min - Smoking and non-smoking rooms available - Several fast food options within walking distance (right next to a McDonald's and a Dairy Queen) - Pilot gas station across the street is perfect for tractor/trailers, RVs, large vehicles, etc. (I mention this because there is an exit just south of this one that is NOT truck-friendly, and it can be a pain to find a gas station with plenty of room to navigate if you aren't the best driver) - Check-out is 11AM. Not a pro or a con, just extra info Cons: - I travel with a blanket and my own pillow, so it wasn't an issue for me, but I'd recommend other people may want to do so as well. I'd rate their pillows a 2 out of 5 (but for the price, they're just fine, and I'm honestly a pillow snob). And I can see how someone could get cold if they came here during winter (unless the motel adds a comforter or wool blanket during cold months). - Some things have been renovated, but some things are still a teensy bit out-dated. But really, for the price, it's actually more updated than I expected. And in my book: clean is greater than new - There's a train that passed by several times during the night (or maybe several trains that passed once during the night... hmm). You can vaguely hear the track noise and train "choo-choo" sound (that's abominable... I don't know what it's called! A train horn?) from where I was. It only happened 2-3 times, and it totally didn't bother me, although it may if you're a light sleeper. Bottom line: Great price, clean, and convenient for traveling with large vehicles. Bookmarked on Yelp, and plan to return on my next trip up to Chicago.

I would rate this place a zero, but cannot. We were visited by one of their four legged critters,…read morerat or mouse. We found plenty of dropping behind the frig that someone did not clean..Just remember they own the DQ as well. Wonder if there are droppings in there as well??? Never again...

Comfort Suites - The two queen bed room is pretty large. Ignore the messy beds, we were checking out moments later.

[Updated upon second return, just as good!]…read more We traveled back through and stayed a second time. Keep in mind that it's a road ride budget Choice hotel. It's Platinum rated in 2018 from what I saw which means it's in the top 3% of all Comfort Suites and I can see why. Here is a summary of my experience: Pros: -Inexpensive -Very clean for a budget hotel -Comfy beds -Bathroom is actually big enough to walk in and close the door without standing on the toilet. -Updated and spacious rooms (especially the king), large couch. Plenty of room for two pack-n-plays. -A really good breakfast included -Free WiFi -SUPER friendly staff, especially Theresa -Convenient location right off interstate with plenty of food options -Parking is safe, well lit and spacious. Cons: -Small outdoor pool, not heated, and no hot tub

Located about 3 hours from Milwaukee, Comfort Suites in Rensselaer, IN was where we decided to stop…read morefor the night on a road trip to Florida. The room was larger than expected and, most importantly, the beds weren't uncomfortable. Not that it was like sleeping on a cloud, but I wasn't sleeping on a rock either. The room was clean and the price after fees wasn't unreasonable ($134 for the night). Location is great being right off the highway. All of the staff members we interacted with were friendly. The continental breakfast was meh. Only one of the two buffet trays had food in it and the scrambled eggs were very watery. They have plain and cinnamon roll flavored waffle batter, but the cinnamon didn't have much punch to it. The apple juice had little flavor and was almost like drinking water.

I am writing so much because I was impressed that an inexpensive motel could be so nice to stay in…read more Having amenities Hilton or Choice Hotel chains offer. This seems a well run Suoer 8. Stayed here with seven family members in four different rooms for three nights. So I can speak of their rooms and services. Room size is comfortable and super clean. The maintenance staff cares if your accommodations are to your liking. My room had two queen beds. The sheets and pillows were white and clean. The bathroom well stocked and clean. Has a full sized iron & ironing board; a large hairdryer with built in night light. The room itself was quiet as any small motel is. Inside hall design, and second floor access is from the two ends with a glass door between the entry and hall. My sib hobbles around and did not ask for a handicapped accessible bath tub. When they discovered they were in a non accessible room, they asked the desk if there was one available; said there was, and would be happy to transfer their belongings right away. Problem solved. Another in my party was given a room that smelled of stale cigarette smoke and had her room changed too. No problem! They offer complementary breakfast consisting of Eggo waffle, bagel, cold cereal, individually wrapped cinnamon bun, hard boiled egg, banana and apple. The coffee was fresh made and in thermal carafes.
