This place is wild. They don't even staff the counter and direct you to Avis. Then... after waiting in line for an hour they have no details on the reservation. They do get us a car. So we think. They send us to the location of that car. There's no car. We go back. The clerk starts looking for a car. We cancel and get charged anyway. This is now 2 hours into it. We tell the clerk we were charged. She tells us to go out to the parking lot where the manager will be waiting for us. He will take care of it. The manager is sitting in a booth with a line of people waiting for him... some of whom have been waiting for over an hour. I go back inside. The clerk says there's nothing she can do and no matter what I say that won't change. Oh... and she never bothers to apologize. I got the impression this was a routine day for her. No big deal. Set up online, requested a mystery vehicle via the budget website. When we arrived at the budget desk, they guided us to the avis rental company. We had a quick great experience. The ladies were super sweet. I said it would be fun to have an EV but needed it to fit my 6'3" son, they gave us a 2024 Ford F150 lightening! We got to the truck, it looked great but smelled horrible. Right on the widow it says $450 cleaning fee for smoking may apply. Obviously the last renters didn't care cause it leaked of cigarettes & pot. We went to the store & got deodorizer & a car freshener. There was drink residue on the center console. Other than that, this has been a great truck! We needed to extend the rental return date. I was able to easily do it from my phone on the budget website, even though avis provided us the truck. Now the nitty gritty.... Pros of renting an EV... spent less than $200 on charging for 2 weeks, rides really nice, all the bells & whistles & I'm loving the frunk. Cons: if you don't have a home charging unit, it really sucks to have to find one & either sit while it charges or get dropped off & picked up. Some chargers are super slow, some super fast, kind of like cell phone charger. Some charger charge extra/hr, if you don't disconnect within 10 mins of finished charging. Specific to a F150...the mileage to charge ratio isn't that great. About 215 miles per full charge, so it's you are staying outside of town it requires charging nightly. Need to return it with at least 70% charge but no place close to charge near the return desk. Overall we are happy with the experience we had & will definitely get a rental when coming home just probably not a ev truck read more

EVERY SINGLE LAST ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES ARE FILTHY. Pieces are missing or broken in the vehicles. Make sure that you inspect the vehicle before pulling off because they will try to charge you for cleaning and dents/damage that you are not responsible for. be sure to ask when the vehicles last maintenance was because they will allow you to travel across country without checking the oil life, tires or the toll device. This company needs to be shut down immediately. They should be ashamed of the shady business that they're running. Keep all of your documents and pictures. This business is as crooked as they come. I used Budget again and this time I rented the car in Chicago and dropped it off in Cleveland. The process was simple to make the reservation and while I had some anxiety about dropping it off because of an extremely early flight, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they already had staff checking in cars at 5:20am. The drop off was extremely easy and the airport shuttle runs 24 hours. I'll say that there could be more signs for drop off and to get back to the shuttle. I actually missed the little Budget return sign the first time since it was dark and had to do a loop around the rental area. For the shuttle/service desks just head toward the center/big building and look for the double doors. read more

Called to complain, and while on the phone, my card is being charged multiple times for a charge they can't even tell me what it is and tell me they can't do anything about it because it is " non-negotiable," but they still can't explain what "it" is. They wanted us to pay for the gas we used before we noticed the unsafe tires. The phone number is disconnected because Hopkins doesn't have phones for Budget Rental anymore. They continue to give the disconnected phone number for customer service. They are trying to charge us for more gas that we used with the replacement car. BEWARE dishonest and unethical staff and company! January 2025: Budget and their employee will lie to your face at this location. We reserved a luxury non-EV SUV for winter driving and received a half-charged electric vehicle low on wiper fluid (not great for salt and snow driving) and were charged $275 more than the confirmed rate. The employee never said there was a change and not taking the EV meant being left without a car, at night, in the middle of winter. Even after calling the location and the national number, we were told there was nothing they would do and we could return the car and be charged a certain amount. When we did, they charged us double that amount. read more

So while we received the correct car we were detained and then directed back to the service desk to correct the issue. -- Upon returning the car with a full tank of gas we received a strange additional charge on our credit card that took was never resolved. I definitely should have read reviews prior to renting at this location. Prior to I have used Budget at Vail, CO airport location and was very happy. Bright spot was the check in and return associates...friendly and efficient. Car was not particularly clean, dashboard indicated low key fob battery, and EZ pass was unusable in Ohio. I had to pay full toll because I didn't pull at ticket...only went 1 exit. Toll booth attendant said they never work and car rental companies need to stop using them. I didn't want to waste my time requesting a refund which I knew would never happen and only further aggravate me. I won't use budget again because of the above. Just picked up a vehicle that's filthy! It's gross and the vehicle is not what I was lead to believe I booked online. I wanted a vehicle to sit 5 people and selected mid size. The website is really misleading. We were told the vehicle was a Toyota Rav 4- then informed to fit 5 people we can get the Toyota 4Runner and I would not be charged $15 extra per day. Since I took a red eye I just agreed and wanted to get out of the rental office, waited 45 mins to get reservation check in. The one thing that really bothered me was 2 Budget employees said "you can change the vehicle, but you will have to wait in that long line again", that was really crappy. First time using Budget and it will be the last time. The car interior is disgusting and of course standing in another 45-60 minute line isn't worth it due needing to get to the next location. I agree with another reviewer- Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Avoid!!! I wish I had read the reviews before booking. My favorite moment was asking an employee where the keys to the vehicle were at, he replied "they're in there somewhere just look!" The service was slow, but she did everything she could to manage the very one's expectations while delivering accurate and friendly service. First, I called customer service and asked them if my dad could rent the car using his CC; they told me he would have to be there in person to pick up the car since it's under his CC. I then asked if my 21 year old daughter could rent the car with her debit card because it states on Budget website debit cards are okay. The rep said it was fine and my daughter could rent the car even with her being only 21. So we rented the car online and paid for it in full. Budget drafted her account and everything for the car. So today my daughter gets off her flight at the airport goes to Budget rental on 19601 Maplewood Ave. just too be told she isn't able to rent the car with a debit card since she is 21. I proceeded to tell the manager over the phone that the customer rep I spoke with on Friday, assured me it was ok for my daughter to rent the car. Now bc of Budget's screw up, they want to charge us $150 cancellation fee. I WILL NEVER USE OR RECOMMEND Budget rental and I will tell everyone how they screw people over even when it's their mistake. I rented a car from this business through my Costco membership, so it was not my first choice, but the one I got through them. The two people (three when we arrived, but one went to bathroom) were extremely rude. One was very condescending to an older woman, who was just having a hard time understanding the contract. I don't think she has ever rented a car before. When we got to the counter after a very long wait, the two there began complaining about the work schedule, so much so, we all just stood there and listened while no work was getting done. I said to them, "ok guys" thinking they would get the hint, and the both of them turned to me and lectured me on patience. There was no "I apologize" and no "we are sorry for the inconvenience". They did get to work after this, but she didn't explain contract, nor did anyone go over scratches and dents on the car. The car had bread crumbs throughout backseat and was not a clean car at all. If I could give negative 100 stars I would. There is literally not enough words to adequately explain the fiasco that occurred when renting from this company. This rental experience made renting from the smaller off-brand rental companies seem like getting a luxury car service compared to renting from the ghetto that is Budget/Avis. My safety was threatened while on budget property as a customer unhappy with their car came in threatening to shoot people at our original car pick up location, the agent at the first location couldn't accept payments and kept blaming me and another customer for their problems, he tried to overcharge me by $100+ for something he told me was $30. They didn't even have cars available even though I made my reservation in advance and wanted me to wait until closing in hopes a car would come in. The employees at two different locations were outstandingly inept and told multiple lies including repeatedly changing the price and services received to get the transaction over with. I was promised one thing and employees kept doing other things all while continuously raising the price. The car ended up needing maintenance. It took 4+ hours to get a rental car because of the insanity I experienced renting from this company. So I was severely late leaving for my trip/event. I also have yet to receive my airline miles with United as well and that was the only reason I even rented from this company. And the icing on the cake is one of the incompetent employees trying to get with me after promising I had the liability insurance on the car knowing good and well he took it off. If I had gotten into an accident in this car neither me nor my insurance would be paying for it! I can promise you that! I will be calling the CEO because this experience was vastly unacceptable. When i contacted them they stated that they would stay open as long as the flight information was on the reservation. Upon arrival, the representative was gone and there was about 5 customers that were stuck with no mode of transportation. Second, I rented a car in Florida in Nov 2022 and upon return everything was fine. A couple months later I get a bill for $700 with no pictures or proof that the car was damaged upon return. I hate it when companies play games. My SUV was given to me without a full tank of gas. If I didn't mention it as we drove off, my money lost. In my case, I did mention it and it was noted. How do you expect your customers to know how much gas to refill to get 7/8 of a tank? So I ended up filling the entire tank. So again I (the customer) lost at least $10. So stop playing games with customers and be straight forward. All you (Budget) had to do provide a full tank of gas to all your customers. DO NOT RENT HERE. I dropped my car off here 2 days ago. Whether it was because of a malfunction or the cold weather, I was unable to get my gas cap to open (it just made clicking noises and remained locked shut.) On dropping the car off, I explained to the associate that I was unable to put gas in the car, but if he'd help me fix the cap I'd happily go fill the car. He told me "don't worry about it, it's no problem!" Well, today they charged me $10 *per gallon* for gas. This is absolutely unacceptable. If I am unable to put gas in the car through no fault of my own AND your associate says "don't worry about it," why am I being charged?! To make matters worse I called the phone number listed for this location and every single option on the phone tree goes back to the national call center. You cannot actually talk to someone at this facility without physically going in, which of course I don't have time to do expediently, though I'll absolutely be taking valuable time out of my day (not to mention put myself at undue risk for covid exposure) to go talk to a manager in person because that's just highway robbery.
