From the initial phone call to make a reservation to the drop off, everyone was friendly and helpful. The vehicle itself was quite nice by the usual truck rental standards, and included EZ Pass, which was very convenient for my brief trip to South Jersey. Tolls are billed to your credit card with an additional charge of $1.50 per instance; this is fine on the Turnpike, but might feel a little burdensome on a long Parkway trip. No hidden costs, no nonsense, and frankly quite inexpensive when compared to my expectations. There is no question whatsoever whom I will be contacting for this type of rental moving forward.

The level of customer service, professionalism and customer care fell far below any reasonable standard. I made a confirmed reservation for a Compact SUV. Upon arrival at the rental office, I was informed that the reserved vehicle, or any similar vehicle, was not available. I was also told that my reservation had allegedly been accepted by mistake because the rental website should have been closed over the weekend. This explanation was both surprising and unacceptable. Instead of the vehicle I had booked, I was offered a small two-door car. This was entirely unsuitable for our needs, as there were three travellers, two of whom have mobility limitations and were unable to access the rear seats without rear doors. No alternative vehicle was offered, nor was any effort made to find a practical solution. When we expressed our disappointment, the employee responded in an arrogant and dismissive manner, stating that nothing could be done and that our only option was to accept the unsuitable vehicle or cancel the reservation. As a result, the reservation was cancelled by the Alamo representative, who confirmed the cancellation. We were left without transportation and were forced to abandon our planned trip. To make matters worse, the following day the full rental amount of €116.12 was charged to my credit card, despite the reservation having been cancelled by Alamo. Since then, I have sent four emails to both the rental office and Alamo customer service. More than a month has passed, and I have not received a single response. Furthermore, the amount charged has not been refunded. Charging a customer for a service that was never provided, after a reservation was cancelled by your own staff, is completely unacceptable. The complete lack of response to multiple emails only adds to the disappointment and frustration. At present, the entire experience feels less like customer service and more like daylight robbery. He answered all of my questions and made some recommendations about the return of the car that saved me tons of time (not arriving at a certain time when the courthouse next door is having rush hour). I made a mistake in not reading all of the fine print (they did it all right - I did not see something - it was my error) and upon returning the car both Paul and Rico resolved and handled it with such kindness, understanding and total professionalism. They didn't just fix my issue when I was in a panic - they made me feel valued at National car rental throughout the entire return process. An hour late, 45 minutes it with customer service, we had to fish or cut bait. So off we went to National/Alamo and Josh!!!! Josh was there behind the counter and when he saw us (how many months later???) he smiled and gently asked "Zip Car?" There were NO cars left but there was this mini-van. We took it! And then we had to figure out how to open doors and move seats and Josh patiently showed us, even though the rental office was busy and people were on line and ok some were a bit cranky. The cost of this FANTASTIC mini-van was the same as the Zip Car. Both our neighbors and we are planning on using Alamo/National before we do Zip again. With customer service from Josh and all the folks at the counter (honestly everyone there has been so wonderful), we always get a great car at a great price and we don't ever panic or get late to a party. Once I got to the hotel, I realized that having a car was not going to be a good idea. It is tough to park everywhere and the downtown was very walkable.... so I returned to the airport and returned the car. The Budget attendant in the garage, told me I didn't have to go inside, and to just drop the car off and I would be credited. WELL... I was not credited ANYTHING! Their fine print says if you prepay and drop the car off early, there is no credit. I didn't even have the car a few hours! THIS IS THEFT!!! I called customer service and also emailed, and they would not credit me anthing. NEVER USE THEM!!!
