I never ever have written a review on Yelp, but I feel so strongly about Middlewood's of Newington…read morethat I had to take a minute to tell you about our experiences there. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and caring, I mean really caring and sweet. The food is delicious, healthy and there is plenty of it. If residents don't like food they just have to ask and another food will be made for them. There are all kinds of activities and excursions with plenty of staff to help; and they throw some of the best parties I have ever been too. Medical staff is on hand which is very helpful. My grandmother arrived and was very scared (she lived in her home over 65 years) I swear within a day or two she really started to love the place. She has made many friends. What I like best is that we don't have to worry about her. We don't have to spend the weekend, doing laundry, cleaning and help with her showering. We get to spend quality time with her. That's the best feeling in the world. The place has just upgraded the place, new carpets, new paint, new furniture everything is spotless and beautiful Kathy Braga is the Chief Fun Fairy and Director of Middlewood's. She runs a tight ship with lots of love. She makes everything run seamlessly. My grandmother has long term care insurance and they gave us so much trouble to get them to pay for my grandmothers care. Kathy dug in and we got the result we wanted they'd pay for her care. I don't believe that we would have gotten the same conclusion with out her. We love her, we love the place and we are very, very happy.

The rooms are very comfortable and the hallways resemble a college dorm with small tables of knick knacks and seasonal decorations. My mom gets her hair, nails and pedicures done on the premises. Also on the premises is a geriatric doctor and psychiatrist, both of which my mom sees. There are activities every day and also a van that takes residents to doctor appointments, the store as well as field trips and Wii bowling competitions with other assisted living communities. There's something for every level of care for seniors and I am very happy to have my mom living there.

I saw this calendar just outside the entrance to the Harbor area, and it looked great. Well, every single day I went to visit my mother there wasn't ever ANYTHING going on. Everyone was just sitting on the recliners asleep. I never witnessed a single activity. I had a private aid with my mom every day all day as well, and she told us there wasn't anything going on during the day. Secondly, while my mother was in the facility I had to reach out to a few people in upper management, Peg Sullivan and Jenn Brin, to get some basic questions answered. The emails or voicemails I left were rarely responded to. I'd have to get in my car and drive down there to get any communication across. This was very annoying. Thirdly, I reached out to get a couple simple things addressed in my mom's room. There was a ton of dirty dust on the outside of the AC vent register on the ceiling. I wanted it cleaned off. You guessed it, nobody responded. When taking the tour of the facility, I noticed a lot of base trim work was removed in the large community area where the sofas and TVs are. I asked the salesperson about that. She said they were doing some renovating and painting. A month later and the base trim was still not reinstalled. If I had to guess, I'm sure it's still not reinstalled at this very moment. My mom's house was very neat, and in perfect repair, so these 2 minor things were important for me to get addressed. Finally, when all was said and done and my mom was no longer living here, they owed me some money. I went back and forth several times asking when I'd get it. It took them over a month to get me the money they owed me. That was a bit insulting. For the amount of money you pay to live there, they really should have MUCH better service. Some words of advice - stay away. If you absolutely have to move a loved one here, get them their own private aid and make sure they have a lot of visitors.

Sometimes the air conditioning doesn't work well. The food used to be good but now it seems like a lot of it comes out of a can. With this corona pandemic everyone is confined to their rooms. It's been since March since anyone has been allowed to come out. This is house arrest and these people have not had anything to do or anyone to talk to. Their rooms are not that big either. The facility has 2 entrances and only one is open most of the time. It is on New Britain Ave and it has 4 lanes of traffic. It is almost impossible for anyone trying to take a left. I am waiting for the day when someone gets killed trying to do this, especially the seniors who still drive. It was an idiotic decision to close the entrance on Newington Ave where there are fewer cars going up and down the road. Some of the security guards have a reputation of being very rude. Parking at the facility is a total nightmare because there is very little of it. If you do find a spot you have to walk very far to get into the building. Don't think that the administrator there will care a lot about your opinion or your problems with this facility or with the staff. The rent there is very expensive and I would suggest to look elsewhere. There are a lot of empty rooms there and now you know why.

The rooms do not have working air conditioners but rather small fans, and its the middle of the summer- UNACCEPTABLE. Inside the facility and rooms it was hot, humid, and smelled like mildew!! My grandfather was there for just 1 week and caught pneumonia and had to get rushed to the hospital. He should've been admitted to the hospital at least a day sooner. No common sense, everyone is confused and directs you to the head nurse. DO NOT bring your loved ones there.

Slow to test staff and residents regularly, until recently. They have been retisent to recognize Assisted Living in Ct as a landlord lessee rental arrangement and covid data statistical reporting. They routinely refuse to initially follow gubernatorial executive orders, such as lowering of quaratine time from 14 to 20 days. Essentially, this facility now is low or no services for months and months. 10 residents dead the best I can count, not sure about staff. The future is an endless series of lockdown and punish elderly with roon quarantines. You can't go to church, no family in apartments month 10, no ER visit yes ER visit gets your old folks 14 day quarantine. For 6k a month your stuck in your room alone declining and frightened. Sure move out, that was management's advice when slamming residents with aggressive rent increases in the during the pandemic. Disconnected. I was told "its business" It's not east to move a 90 year old with nees. Fed up family member. I see they are getting near 70 percent capacity. Maybe business will be just that, bankruptcy.
