We travel often and like to plan our own trips, but when trying to figure out where to begin with…read morean African safari, we knew we would need expert advice. We were drawn to Fair Trade Safaris based on their commitment to African animal conservation and to the local communities. We chose Tanzania in order to see the Great Migration in June and July. Our family of four (two teenagers) first visited Tarangire National Park, a gem with beautiful baobab trees and animals left and right. Elephants were especially prolific. Next was the Ngorongoro Crater which is an absolute necessity in any Tanzanian itinerary. The landscape was stunning and the animals were mesmerizing. The Ngorongoro Farm House was among our favorite stays with delicious food and inviting accommodations. We then visited Serengeti National Park and stayed in the Kati Kati tented camp which was so authentic and the people were so nice and engaging. The food was tasty and we enjoyed "glamping" with giraffes and zebras right outside our tents. Finally, we visited western Serengeti and saw the Great Migration. It was so moving and unbelievable, there were even some tears shed! It's exactly as you see it on National Geographic. Josephat, our fabulous guide, was several notches above other guides. He spotted animals in trees far away that we couldn't see without binoculars. He even had to show other tour guides where animals were hiding on many occasions. One day he talked with other tour guides that were searching for a group of cheetahs seen earlier in the day by other guides. He used his knowledge of their behavior and searched in a few remote spots and found the group of five cheetahs. We met other tourists at the hotel that night that asked if we ever found the cheetahs and we replied in the affirmative. They were disappointed because their tour guide never found them. Through a series of emails over the course of a week, he offered a couple of options at different price points. I should mention that I was trying to arrange our trip for peak season and was a bit late for booking travel at that time. Unfortunately, our trip was cancelled due to the pandemic. But Jim came through again, helping us to obtain a refund. Through all our interactions, Jim was helpful, informative and pleasant. Uptown Valet came highly recommended from people I know and they even found a way to exceed our expectations. The car came 20 minutes early, which I appreciated, and when my wife stepped outside to see the limo, she almost wept! Even though I was the surpriser, they found a way to surprise me with a bottle of champagne inside. Our driver, Jacob was such a nice guy and so dutiful! He told us to text him when the waiter gave us the check, and he was right there waiting for us outside the restaurant impressing the other patrons wondering who's limo it was. I am no celebrity, but Uptown Valet surely made us feel like big shots last night and played a major role in giving my wife a birthday she'll never forget! I knew planning a destination wedding in Cancun would be an undertaking, but I had no idea how…read moredifficult and time consuming it would be just getting information from and negotiating with the resorts directly. When I was introduced to Lauré I was frustrated and overwhelmed. I had already decided on a resort I loved and signed a contract, but room block negotiations were making my head spin. Lauré quickly put my mind at ease - she knew exactly what she was doing. She took over the communications with the resort, helped us determine the appropriate size room block, and managed the room block throughout the process. Her insight was invaluable. I would have made so many missteps had it not been for her guidance - all the way down to how to word my invitations and website to get the best response from guests. Speaking of which, we were optimistically ball-parking around 80-90 guests and ended up with over 100, which I truly believe is a testament to how effectively Lauré communicated with everyone. Once guests sent an initial inquiry to Lauré, she followed up with them like clockwork and I heard from multiple friends how responsive she was and how straightforward and easy she made the booking process. Without a doubt, we would not have had anywhere near that headcount had we left it up to guests to book directly through the resort. I cannot emphasize enough how necessary Lauré's services are if you're planning a trip with a large group and would also like to maintain your sanity. Future brides especially, you will have plenty of things to worry about while planning your wedding, do not let this be one of them.
