I just wrote a review earlier this week, but I feel the need to follow up. So I went back and got the same Farmers Skillet to-go. It was still amazing! I still recommend getting it over hashbrowns, over-easy eggs, but this time I did hollandaise sauce and that was actually pretty good. I need to make a correction for my previous review because I feel bad. Buckboard does not charge a credit card processing fee. For some reason, I thought that I was charged one earlier in the week. So why is this still four stars? Well...this time the service/staff was less than ideal. When I called to place my order on the phone, the lady sounded very annoyed. Like the entire time I was placing my order - I felt uncomfortable and like I shouldn't be calling. When I got inside the restaurant to pick up my order, I'm 99% sure it was the same lady that took my phone order. She again seemed very annoyed and I felt very uncomfortable for being there. Like I had done something wrong. This time I also wasn't offered any jellies or hot sauce. I didn't feel like I should just ask because...I don't know, maybe those aren't supposed to be given out for free and it was just a nice thing the staff did for me earlier in the week? But I really missed having some strawberry jam with my toast. One thing I love about the toast when you get it to-go, they wrap it in a separately to keep it from getting soggy. I really liked this. Overall, I'm really sorry I made a mistake in my previous review about the credit card processing fee. I wish the service would've been better this time and from other reviews, it seems like it's definitely mixed. I still recommend giving Buckboard a shot, but don't go into a thinking it's going to be the best restaurant in the world. I really appreciate that ownership is looking at reviews! read more

I have gone to this place for 40 years...always pretty good with decent service...but nothing else has changed except prices which are on par with the nicest breakfast places anywhere... not sure they command the same price being nothing has changed in that building in 40 years, including the bathrooms... I don't mind that it's a dive. I just feel like prices should reflect that a little bit. I doubt I will go back much anymore. Well over $20 with a tip and that was with no coffee. Healthy takeout breakfast (surprise!) Since having to make a few dietary adjustments, eating out has not been the easiest. However, I was very pleased when my husband brought home breakfast from a local favorite among Lakevilleans: Buckboard He ordered me a low-sodium mushroom omelette with a hint of cheddar and side of fruit (the menu item below had substitutions, fruit was subbed for toast). Also - this was take-out, so I got to enjoy in the comfort of home. But a beautiful breakfast and one I felt quite comfortable eating. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. The Buckboard is top 5 of the thousands of breakfast places I've tried. It has a great, small town cafe feel, reasonable prices and a huge menu of breakfast favorites. Their kitchen looks so small you have to back out to change your mind but they turn out some terrific food and fast. All the staples are there and some very creative breakfast combos you need to try. Came for breakfast/brunch on a saturday at 11am. Server was ok, she wasnt bad or mean, she just wasnt very friendly or upbeat. I was expecting a more inviting tone of voice, instead she was just very neutral and short , to the point. We ordered a Western Omelet , it came out with no potatoes in it, they brought me a side of potatoes after i asked for them. my husband got the garbage skillet, he said it was good, his toast was pretty well burnt though, also got 1 pancake, it was good, tastes like regular pancakes youd make at home, nothing special, ive had better, but not bad. Customer service was.. decent. Waitress wasn't knowledgeable on the menu when asked about specific items. The food, specifically the Top Sirloin Steak & Fries, were not good. Parked here at 758pm. Didn't see the small sign about towing your vehicle that was in the buckboard lot. Although buckboard was closed and the lot was empty the owner of buckboard who was driving out at 8pm called the tow company and said to have the 3 cars that were parked in his lot "towed immediately." Again the lot was empty, Restaurant was closed at 8pm. The waitress at the near by restaurant said she thought some cars were being towed. They indeed were towed. $405 per car, cash to retrieve your car. IN THE MORNING the day after. To the owner of the Buckboard. You are a disgrace to the community. A rotten human being. I really don't understand people like you. The "pain and suffering" my Wife and friends endured as well as being extorted from your tow company is beyond repair. Ironically the two cars you had towed are owned by individuals with the means to ensure fair compensation is achieved for our pain and suffering, and violating consumer protection laws, and gross negligence. This is really how you treat the people of your community? People that generate revenue for your diner? Suffice to say there are at minimum, 8 individuals who after last night, will never set foot in your establishment, and anyone reading this should think twice before helping this individual run a business. read more

Stopped for breakfast on the way to AHS Convention in Ames, Iowa. Ratings on Yelp were pretty high so knew we would eat well.The parking lot was full, the interior was dated but clean and the hostess & waitress were both friendly and efficient. We had our food 10 minutes after ordering! Wow that's fast. I love Eggs Benedict with crispy hash browns so I went with it. Huge and delicious! I could only finish half and I hate wasting food. Oooookay. I love it. We were seated immediately even though it's a busy Saturday morning and got our food maybe 5 minutes after we ordered. The total bill for 2 coffees and 2 breakfasts (huge portions) was $27. You can't beat that at a restaurant! This is a very family-run feeling restaurant (does that make sense?) and feels like a true gem. Additions to the menu are scribbled on posters and whiteboards all over the walls, which is sort of fun -- so many options. You can buy a breakfast here for $2.95. (Whaaaaat.) We chose the eggs Benedict and the kielbasa breakfast special. Both plates came out (as I said) 5-10 after we ordered. Huuuuge portions. Servings of hash browns bigger than my entire hand. The toast comes out buttered (I was searching for the butter on the table before I discovered this, haha) and the wait staff is VERY attentive. Amazing. After reading the other reviews, I made sure to show up at the door by 7am to avoid the rush at this gem. We were greeted at the door by the waitress and by customers as we walked to our seats. LOVED the place already. Felt like an episode of CHEERS. Took us a while to figure out what we wanted due to the expanded menu selection. Wow. This a popular restaurant with the locals in Lakeville. Don't let the outside or inside appearance keep you from stopping by. This is a real diner in every sense of the word. The food is hearty with generous servings. We came here with family for breakfast before starting our day. The parking lot was very crowded as well as the restaurant itself. It is "seat yourself" and we were fortunate to get booth that had been cleared. Drinks and food orders were taken by a waitress who said she has worked there for years. Oh the buckboard...growing up nearby, it was the go to place for a filling and tasty breakfast or brunch. As I grew up, it became the place to go with friends after a late night out. The staff are always friendly and efficient. It does get busy on weekends and service is more quick and less chatty but that is completely understandable. The food is tasty, often a bit greasy (although again, tasty) and there are many options. They have their specials and they are posted in a couple places in the entry hall and eating areas. It is a small town diner feel so don't come seeking out a fancy, high end dining with over the top service. The restaurant is clean...although going downstairs to the bathrooms, that is another experience. Again, small town dining - nothing awful, just less than great bathrooms but it does the job. Last time I went recently there was the hand towels that rotate and are fabric - not very common anymore! Grab a cup of hot coffee, chat with the kind staff, and enjoy a hometown meal! read more
