Beautiful waters perfect for the kayak, fun hiking, a beautiful camp site, lots of adorable ducklings...and although a wildfire popped up within eyeshot, we got to witness planes working through the evening dipping into Timothy and ultimately taking the fire down. Yay! Although I've never seen so many employees at any campground, the grounds were kept pristine and every staff member encountered was friendly. No complaints, just fabulous fun at Timothy!

Anyway, you DO have to drive through the campground to get to the excruciatingly small parking area for the Lil Crater trail, but the areas are separate things. Trail is less than a quarter mile walk to what proved to be a crystalline azure pool of water that looked at least 70 feet deep -- though I wouldn't know actual depth, I didn't measure it. Probably depends on the light of the day, but what we saw was magical; be warned that it is out of the way, on a pretty rough forest service road, so unless you're in the area, maybe not worth the drive.

Trillium…read morehas been plagued lately with fisherman that throw fish carcasses back in the water, resulting in a stench during high heat, and the need to navigate around them. Trillium also gets mountain run-off, so it's colder. Frog Lake is exactly what it sounds like. There are marshy areas with tadpoles and frogs. The nice thing is that it isn't always super packed, there's always somewhere to settle, and the water is easily accessible. I frequent Lacamas in Camas, and the downside is that the main entrance is super rocky. Frog Lake isn't, which makes it kid-friendly. $10 to park. Bathrooms are basically outhouses. Dumpster on the main road before leaving. The road has some major potholes on the way up, but hopefully you have an SUV.

It's a beautiful day here in the 70s and the views over the lake of Mount Hood are spectacular. Wish we had kayaks with us, towels ...families are enjoying the water. Many brought chairs, umbrellas, grills, tables, water sports equipment... The was a friendly man driving a golf cart maintaining this picnic area.

We did not have enough water and had to turn around a bit early at mile 4 (for a grand total of 8). Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain was visible but I didn't want to risk my poor pup overheating on such a warm day. Not many other folks go past mirror lake or the initial mountain viewpoint so you might find you'll have this to yourself. The trail is very well maintained to mirror lake, and even has a few cute little bridges and stream crossings. After that, it can be quite narrow and bouldery though there are many beautiful wildflowers lining the trail. There were also a few mosquitos just after the lake so come prepared with bug spray. All I can speak for is the mountain viewpoint (since that's as far as we got) but it was worth the trek up there to see Mt. Hood, Mirror Lake, and Government Camp from that point of view.

Had a great camping trip to Gone Creek last weekend. Not sure why they call it Gone Creek since…read moreit's on Timothy Lake, but whatevs. Located just under 2 hours from Portland at the feet of Mount Hood, Gone Creek is a perfect weekend camping destination. Upon arrival we found our site we had reserved. Only about a quarter of the site is reservable with the rest of it being first-come first-served. The park host said that you really need to get there mid-week to get a non-reserved spot. The sites here are great. They are large and you don't feel crowded in the campground. Our site had a driveway to fit 3 cars and 3 tents for our group. You have your standard picnic table and firepit available as well. This campground does not have showers, so be prepared to have grungy hair by the time you leave. They also use vaulted toilets. There are water spigots within a few steps of all the campsites for fresh water too. During our trip, we fished along the shore and got our haul of a dozen rainbow trout. I saw a bunch of boats out on the lake, but we were the only ones I saw reeling them in! The lake is great for an afternoon swim. It's the right temperature and felt really good on an 88 degree day at the campground. Definitely worth checking out if you're a camper.

As of June 2024 the water is broken so you'll have no water in the campground for the time being. The best views of Mount Hood are on the wooden dock by the boat ramp in the day use area. They really need to get more carts so the line moves quicker. The unlimited pass would be hard to use. The 5 slides would be easier to use. Definitely worth going up to the top and checking out the scenic lift. The tubes were fun. The trampoline bungee good, batting cages looked busy. Go carts - Make sure and bring your drivers license or you can't go. Maze was fun. Staff - mostly friendly. They were helpful when I asked for help.

Fun, easy trail no matter the time of year…read more We've done this trail a few times, mixing it up and going different directions. If you start in Government Camp it'll be about 2 1/2 miles in a lollipop loop. When there's snow on the ground it's advantageous to utilize snowshoes. Currently you can make it around in hikers, but you'll most likely post hole a few times so be ready. The trail is fairly popular on weekends, but I've never seen it crazy packed. Last weekend we encountered a dozen or so people: snowshoers, cross country skiers, and hikers. There's plenty of street parking in Govy at the trailhead. You can also park at the nearby Glacier View Sno-Park and start from that end. It's a peaceful & pretty trail, especially in the snow...and Enid is a sweet lil lake.
