I have hesitated posting a review but having seen others with similar circumstances, I wanted to post my experiences. Having read the responses to negative reviews, I also understand my viewpoint is only to serve others seeking representation and any response will be in regards to the firm wanting to do better, not speak of details within the case, or that reading this is heart breaking. I retained this firm for an Illinois high net worth, complex divorce involving significant marital assets including 2 businesses, financial irregularities, and safety concerns. My experience with the representation was deeply disappointing, and I believe it is important to share my perspective so others can make informed decisions. In my case, I was assigned Ross Schreiter who is no longer with the firm. During my time as a client, several issues significantly affected the outcome of my case: - Delays in critical filings: Key discovery deadlines passed without action, even as I would request we hold firm to the deadlines, and I later discovered that my discovery materials were not sent to the opposing party for approximately three months after delivery to the firm (within the deadline). - Lack of timely financial investigation: I uncovered (from the minimal pieces of documentation actually received) substantial financial discrepancies and missing records, yet no subpoenas for the material were issued post the 201(k), nor was a motion to maintain the status quo. The status quo was submitted to the court, and died with no follow through - an element I later saw first hand financially destroyed the estate. Protecting marital assets had no urgency. - Long periods without communication: I experienced extended gaps--sometimes weeks--without updates, even during pivotal stages of the case. In one case as things were moving fast I was without any communication for a month. - Missed court event, Excessive Extensions: A pre-trial conference was missed, and multiple extensions filed, which further contributed to delays. - Insufficient use of documentation I provided: I supplied detailed financial analyses I performed myself with direct evidence of irregularities, but these materials were not incorporated into motions or court strategy in a way that meaningfully advanced my position. - Pushback against inaccurate claims: Opposing counsel made several repeated false income claims, inflating my salary over the years with no evidence in order to position her client into a favorable position to receive maintenance and support. These claims were 4-6x reality. The claims were not refuted with factual evidence by my representation but rather allowed to remain and set the narrative with the court. - Transition issues: When my attorney left the firm, I was notified after 2 weeks and the handoff of my case was incomplete. My new counsel after leaving the firm noted missing components of my file. Non-response from Ross was leveraged against me by opposing counsel effectively. - I was not silent and raised the issues on several occasions. The responses received included statements such as, "You just don't understand how the law works" When explaining how I worked hard to live a good life, just to set an example for my kids, and this process was destroying that example, the response was: "well, just think of the example you can set when you build it all up again" Not to go into the full details, but the representation received from this firm took a person who had worked hard for everything, tried to be a good example for his kids, and tried to speak the truth and turned him into someone jaded, angry, with a loss of all trust in the legal system. I do not believe firms look out for a client's best interests. Failures were met with excuses. As a result of these cumulative issues, my case progressed without the financial clarity or asset protection that were available had timely legal steps been taken. I severed ties to the firm and the settlement was shaped by false claims of income and the absence of key financial information, and it has had lasting and devastating consequences for my family and personal financial stability and long-term security. I am sharing this review not to assign motives or make personal attacks, but to describe the service I received and the impact it had on my life. I encourage anyone considering representation in a complex or high-conflict divorce to ask detailed questions about discovery strategy, communication practices, asset-protection procedures, and transition planning within the firm. As I now try to rebuild my life, I have had my first threat of jail due to unpaid fees ongoing from this firm. I balance month to month debts of paying this firm, opposing counsel, maintenance, ordered obligations, all while making sure my kids have food. Frustrating and disappointment is not enough to explain my thoughts of this firm. read more

Bobby, Your response only reinforces my concern that reviews like mine are not taken seriously. I worked directly with Rebecca LaRocque while she was employed by your firm for over a year. During that time, I paid over $20,000 with virtually no progress made on my case. What I received in return was an incomplete MSA, an incomplete Allocation, and a temporary child support order that was miscalculated. Your firm's bi-weekly billing for work that was either incomplete or not done at all is unacceptable. I sent multiple emails to you, Rebecca, and your billing department clearly outlining these concerns and questioning why I was being charged for work that wasn't being properly completed. None of those emails were ever addressed, and your billing department was unable, or unwilling, to resolve anything. Shortly after, I made the decision to terminate representation with your firm. I am more than willing to provide and attach every invoice and email to support everything I've stated, for full transparency to anyone considering your services. I have clear documentation repeatedly asking why I was being billed with no meaningful progress on my case. Even opposing counsel expressed surprise at how my case was being handled. It felt unnecessarily prolonged, with no court date set, while fees continued to accumulate. It is disappointing to see your firm avoid accountability by stating that Rebecca is no longer employed there. She was representing your firm when I hired her, and that responsibility does not simply disappear. This experience was financially and emotionally draining. As a single mother, I trusted your firm to advocate for me, not to take advantage of my situation. read more

She calls me to lose thousands of dollars in my divorce numbers were entered incorrectly the math was done incorrectly according to the state formula that is to be used in divorce and child support cases. In court she was barely spoke, I did not feel supported or advocated for I feel that I could have done a better job by myself in the end. After 6 months, 2 court dates and $5000 in legal fees, Robert and his senior associate Renata Musial were unable to establish any visitation, custody, parenting time or child support agreements and withdrew themselves from our custody case. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We arranged for a consultation and on-boarding with Robert in November 2022 following a Petition for Parentage for my son in the Cook County Circuit Court. Robert initially assured us that with a $2500 retainer, he could use his expertise to get us visitation somewhere between 2 weeks to a month through the use of emergency visitation rights. After on-boarding, we later found out the following week that Robert was not going to actually be handling the case but instead, trusted us to his paralegals and senior associate Renata. They immediately scrapped the possibility of filing for emergency visitation and began working on financial reviews. It turns out that during this time, Renata had "assumed that opposing counsel would agree to paternity" and by New Years Eve, after realizing this was not the case, a paternity would need to be ordered (18 DAYS BEFORE COURT) that she claimed would be covered by the court fee waiver. After many visits at the Daley Center, the city clerks had to explain to her over the phone that the court fee waiver would not cover the test. We had to go back to the DNA center once again the following week and finally pay out of pocket as it turned out that the legal team did not file the case as the fee-waiver approved judicial type. By the first court hearing January 20th, the judge dismissed the session as paternity had still not been established, resulting in a wasted court appearance and zero progress two months after onboarding with Robert. By this time, the retainer had been completely used on financial reviews that were not yet necessary due to unconfirmed paternity tests and Robert was requesting an additional $1600 in fees for work they had done. We should have jumped ship at this point but after many complaints, Robert reduced the bill to $700 and apologized for the mishaps. Our next court appearance was for March 27th and we figured that the positive paternity results would make smooth sailing. Instead, Renata and her newest paralegals had requested that we re-visit the previously compiled and completed financial affidavits from months before, citing that too much time had gone by. This incurred an additional several hundred dollars and additional discovery requests from the opposing counsel, all of which could have been completed at once now rather than months in advance at the cost of missing paternity deadlines. A week before the next hearing, Renata provided what she believed to be a good offer: 1.5 hours of supervised parenting time per week at a museum 50 miles away from both the mother and I, with the condition of 10-panel ($500) drug test despite no criminal or drug abuse history or evidence of such. We had to point out to Renata that not only is this offer absolutely insane, but the Illinois drug test court order form itself requires "evidence of potential drug abuse pursuant to IL Rule 215 (a)" which she previously dismissed at not applicable. At the next court appearance on March 27th, because I was sick with stomach ailments, my parents sat in on the zoom hearing. It lasted all but 5 minutes and per their witness, the opposing counsel made a series of unsubstantiated allegations concerning potential drug abuse until the judge asked for evidence which they could not provide. Renata remained quiet the entire time and provided absolutely no defense to the accusations nor did she bring up potential visitation or parenting time despite the fact that paternity had finally been established. Zero progress again and we received her withdrawal 2 days later. We appreciate Robert's corporate professionalism but his team's mismanagement and inexperience has cost us thousands of dollars, zero results and valuable parenting time that we will never get back. read more

STAY AWAY, based on my own experience with attorney Ross Schreiter on a premarital agreement case. I started to do attorney shopping end of January when my fiancé hired a lawyer who drafted a premarital agreement. After calling multiple attorneys, I narrowed down to two candidates, Ross and another female attorney, because their rating on google maps was above 4.8 and the review on avvo.com is also good. Ross charges a flat fee of $2500 and the other attorney charges $450 per hour. Eventually I chose Ross because the other attorney was too busy. Below are the reasons why I don't recommend this firm. 1. The most important thing is that he didn't honor the deal. In our call before he's officially hired, he agreed to review the agreement, edit it as needed, negotiate with my fiancé's attorney, and eventually witness to sign the agreement. He never mentioned that he would walk away if he thinks the agreement is unfair (some attorneys I interviewed told me upfront that they would not represent me on some conditions). I trusted him and didn't read the contract carefully, which states that he has the right to withdraw. After working on this case for almost two months, he emailed me that he advised against this agreement and couldn't represent me any more if I insisted to sign. 2. The attorney couldn't meet my needs. 1) Definition of fairness. Ross concluded the original agreement is extremely unfair. My fiancé and I discussed and modified the terms. The funny thing is that after this modification, my fiancé's attorney advised against this agreement, and Ross thought it's still unfair for me. My argument is that who determines fairness then? It looks like we pay a lot of money to satisfy two lawyers here. 2) Understanding of customer's needs / Flexibility. My lawyer emphasized that my fiancé may not agree on what he suggested in the beginning and he didn't know what would happen in this case. I thought my lawyer worked for me and would listen to me, but I was wrong. I told him that the goal is to get married, that time is a very important factor for us, and that I would take all risks caused by this agreement. He could have quit earlier when I asked him if he wanted to quit when I sensed that no agreement would be reached between the two sides. Instead, he quit at the very last moment so I had to start over to find another attorney and push back the marriage date (what a waste of time and money). He said he's only trying to protect my best interests and couldn't participate in this mistake. I really appreciate his opinion and sincerity but this is not what I need. 3. I don't appreciate the working style. He couldn't communicate with me after talking with the other lawyer. He didn't update and send out the agreement with the numbers I requested to change. I ended up doing this myself. I had to correct the grammar and typos myself after my fiancé and I paid that much (can you believe this? Of course both lawyers were upset when I complained about this). My fiancé's attorney advised against the modification but at least put his opinion on the document. When I asked Ross if he would like to continue representing me with the condition that no more negotiations can be made, Ross asked me to acknowledge his warning that he viewed the agreement as written to be unconscionable. I acknowledged that and expected him to put his opinion on the document and sign off. Instead of this, he quit. What is the point to ask for my acknowledgement if he had to quit? After our working relationship terminated, I talked to other lawyers and was told no consequences would occur to him if he signed, and he's supposed to do what clients require. At the end, they refunded me $500 while I requested to get at least half of what I paid. A lesson for everyone is REVIEW the legal representation contract before you sign, at least the termination term should be talked about and agreed on first. read more

the worst part about trying to get a lawyer is paying the money then when you pay the money and they say oh we don't have the information even though you gave it to them a month prior to the trial they call you the day of the trial and say they don't have the information that they do have because she ends up looking for it Kelly, his assistant and then once you say, I can't afford you. They say OK we have to withdraw and they make a big deal out of it like they should've with your defense, but fired and they wanna get out and go to jungle room because that's what they call it. This may actually be the worst law firm on google. I hired them on my currently ongoing custody battle and to say that they represented me is almost laughable. I had my consultation by Robert himself and he sounded honest and motivated but I had Renata Musial assigned to my case after I retained them as council. To say they are dysfunctional is a complete understatement. I had many clerical errors on my case resulting in me being double and triple charged on a single service. They had switched the paralegal on my case twice and on the first occasion they billed me for the time it took for the new paralegal to get up to speed as if it wasn't an internal decision. As for my representation; I was basically told to lie down and take whatever I can get so that I can be with my child. I was made to jump through hoops at the advice OF MY OWN ATTORNEY. The advice (if you can even call it that) I was given ultimately sabotaged my pretrial hearing and while in the thick of my case Ms. Musial took another position within her firm and just handed my case off to a different attorney. When you tried to reach them it was almost impossible, days would pass before a returned email or phone call. As hard as it was to get ahold of my attorney, it was quite easy to reach the billing department. They would text, email and call every time your retainer went below its threshold. I want to start off be saying to anyone considering hiring this firm to way your options and LOOK ELSE WHERE. The owner of the firm Mr Buchanon is very money hungry. I spent over 13-14k with this firm only to get negative results. Mr Buchanon personally texted my personal phone number demanding money on two seperate occasions, and when I called him via phone his only explanation was that other client s had owed him money & how he couldn't believe his clients. I inform the attorney that his bias and past experiences had to be mitigate and was not professional. During my experience with the firm counsel Irina was assigned to my case. I did not feel she had my best interest. Attorney Irina will go against her own clients, and she's very passive and not aggressive enough, opposing counsels will run over her , and her only response would be too file numerous amount of pointless motions. Irina would also send me court dates that I could never attend, because I was not allowed into the zoom meetings, -and then she would call to discuss matters of what occurred in court but also charge me. Once again I didn't feel my attorney or this firm had my best interest In the middle of my custody battle after Investing 13k-14k this firm got know where and had to fire these attorneys. In 7 months total I got child support and to see my children twice a month. So if your considering to hire these attorneys at this firm read your contract closely mr Buchanon will not verbally inform you that he requires a 1,000 minimum every month. Once again if your going through anything divorcée, custody etc.. this firm is money driven and will it have your best interest. Mr Buchanon has a real issue he message old clients and request that they post reviews to get him new clients. His intentions is not good as an attorney or a person. read more
