I found a new hairdresser!! Two months ago, I needed a bang trim so I stopped into the salon after shopping, and Chardonnay gave me a super cute trim. I could tell she knew my style so I scheduled my next haircut with her. My cut is perfect and she blowdried/styled my hair SO nicely. I normally have to wash and style my hair myself after a haircut because stylists never do it right... but Chardonnay not only made my hair super cute and voluminous, she showed me how to do it myself too :) For a Wednesday night, the salon was pretty crowded so they must get a lot of business. The only downside might be that they have a small waiting area. But really that was it :) Park in front of Nordstrom for a quick walk to the Salon. read more

I'm kind of shocked about the low rating for Bubbles, but I guess it is really subject to which stylist you saw. I've been seeing Rochell for about 4 years now, and I won't let anyone else touch my hair. I typically just get a trim, so I could go somewhere else. However, the reason I always come back here is because Rochell helped me to develop my signature red shade that I am known for today. She does a fabulous job with my color - everyone is always shocked to hear that it's not my natural shade, and it doesn't really fade, which I love. In addition, she recommends new products for me to try without being pushy. The salon is well maintained and clean. I'm usually here on Saturday morning, so as expected, it is very crowded. As mentioned in other reviews, there is not a large waiting area, but there are some tables and chairs directly outside of the salon if you want to wait out there. I've always made an appointment, but walk ins are welcome. Final very important note - the lady who washes your hair is the best! She always makes sure the water temperature is comfortable and warm enough for you, and gives the absolute best scalp massage! read more

I have been coming to this location for about 7 years now, and during that time, I've been coming for Lindsay who is an amazing stylist. The prices here tend to run a little highter than most, but the service is well worth the dime. I've come for color, cut, style, and every time, I've walked away completely satisfied. The stylists will give you sound advice, and are honest about services you'll need, and services you don't. It's not all about the money here, it's about the experience. This place really surprised me! I came here aware of the low rating but in short-notice need of getting my color done. I also came in at about 7pm on a Monday. I would have understood if they said No. Filiz, a wonderful Turkish woman, offered to take me in spite of the time. She ended up staying until about 9:15, past their close, just to ensure my hair was perfect. She even trimmed my bangs for me. My color looked amazing, like a sassy Little Mermaid. I went back a second time to get my hair Keratin smoothed. She took her time to do all the proper steps, and once again my hair looks amazing. The people here are the nicest you will ever experience; however, make sure you're direct on what you want. Don't hesitate to tell them you don't like something or want something a certain way. Not too long ago, I went in for a cut and color. I chose my color "light copper." The cut was beautifully done; however, my hair came out purple. I don't mean that it looked purple in the sun, I am talking about angsty 16 year old teenager purple. I was told it would fade into copper within a few weeks after a few washes. Nope, it was still purple 3 months later. Just be direct. Other than that one experience, this is a wonderful place. read more

While I got my haircut, the stylist paid more attention to the conversation he was having with the stylist in the next chair than to what I asked for. Does anyone NOT assume that people having a conversation in a foreign language right in front of you are actually talking about you? OK, I'm probably being paranoid but in the end, it was a cr@ppy haircut. Went back later for color (at the insistence of a friend) and had a better experience. First of all, Crystal is amazing. I have lower back problems and have to stand when letting my hair treatments sit. Crystal works around this and gears me up as needed so my hair and scalp can continue to absorb the product. I've never had an awesome relationship with my stylist, but Crystal is top notch. We can talk about the current lucky guy she's dating, or we can talk about my relationship with my girlfriend (I'm gay), and the convo always flows. In addition to styling my hair, I have a son who is diagnosed with autism, and my son loves her and how she treats him. Crystal even went so far as to bring in her NASA scientist man friend so my son could talk with him while getting his haircut. Frequently going out of her way, Crystal thinks of the needs of others, and is innovative in how to best assist the customer. When it comes to grey hair, Crystal also excels in this department. My mother visits Crystal for her color and cuts, and is never disappointed. Always on her toes, Crystal keeps up with my mother's sharp wit and character, and the two of them get along like it's a fun girl's nite out! My mom cuts lose around Crystal, and the verbal antics are a riot. All the while, Crystal is doing her calculations to make mom's hair color look perfect. The structure of mom's short hair is always on point for touch ups too. From taking care of my 9yr old, to working with me, and to making my mom look spectacular, Crystal is hands down the best stylist ever. I just walked in for my appointment last night after work with a sudden urge to get my hair cut. They were busy but was able to arrange Lakeisha to cut my hair and she did a fabulous job! She is a nice and insightful stylist who listened well to what I wanted. She was able to give me suggestions that I was pleased and agreed with. She explained exactly what products she used on me from shampoo/conditioner to styling products. I've gotten a lot of compliment on my blow out. I had a hairdresser who got very ill and was out of commission for months. I searched for about a month for a suitable replacement. Enter Bubbles Salon, ROSHELLE! (At Columbia Mall) Salon is nice. Front desk girls need some customer service training. ROSHELLE SAVED ME AND ENDED MY SEARCH FOR A GREAT STYLIST! It is a bit pricy, especially for coloring. But for a simple wash, trim and style, not too bad. I live nearby, can go in after work and grab dinner at the food court or any of the other restaurants there. ROSHELLE ROSHELLE ROSHELLE. She laid my hair down when I finally let her put a relaxer in it. It still looks fresh weeks later. I get compliments almost daily. Please ROSHELLE, don't ever get sick, leave, or die before me. I made an appt with Crystal after getting a botched haircut that what was supposed to be a bob, turned into a Beatles bowl-cut that was totally uneven. I leave to go on vacation today and was scared trying somebody out to fix my hair the night before I leave. Crystal was amazing! She sat down with me and came up with a plan as to Zion to fix this messed up cut. She took her time, talked me through the whole thing and assured me that I was going to love my cut. I absolutely love the cut that she gave me! I have been looking for a stylist for years that knows exactly what I'm looking for and I think I found her! From a guys perspective I don't want to think about my hair. I want to sit down and have someone who knows hair make it look good. No one was better at this then Shi-hye. She cut my hair for the seven or eight years. She was great. Perfect every time. Well, times change and unfortunately so did the prices. I stopped going about a year and a half ago only because of the price. When I first got my hair cut there it was $20 not including the tip. I was ridiculed by male friends for paying that but, a haircut only as good as the person cutting your hair. I went through three price increases but when it was $40 for a man's cut I had to call it quits. read more

In a nutshell, my old stylist moved to a different state so for the past 3 years I've been floating from salon to salon trying to find a good stylist. My friend was going in for a color and cut, I just tagged along to check the place out. On a whim, I decided to get a hair cut. I was a little hesitant, but it was time to cut these ends off! Kristen was awesome! I got the exact cut I wanted, she was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was just relaxing! She made me feel comfortable and I trusted her to know what I wanted. She chatted about the products she used but in no way did I feel like she was selling me anything. The waiting area is a little cramped, but they were pretty busy too. I'm not sure why this place has such a low star rate. I think if I had yelped this place first I wouldn't have dared gotten a cut. But then I would have completely missed out on Kristen. If someone gave this place a low rating based on your stylist, I definately recommend giving it one last shot, try a different stylist! You never know! I was certainly surprised. I have already prebooked my next hair appointment later this month for color! I think I've finally found a stylist! Naomi is amazing! I brought in a few pictures of what I wanted done and she talked with me until we both decided on my new look. I asked for partial highlights and a short cut. Throughout the process, she kept confirming with me what I wanted and was extremely nice and friendly. She even offered me her apple when I said I was hungry! I decided not to make an appointment after speaking to the unfriendly and unhelpful receptionist. I was specifically looking for a stylist who is skilled with Asian hair. The receptionist responded rudely with a scripted answer ... "they are all good." I asked the question a different way and got an impatient "No." Apparently, according to the salon, their stylists are all equally skilled at caring for your curly / thick / thin / Black / Asian hair. This must indeed be a magical place! I have visited many higher and lower end salons. No one has ever had a problem answering this question. I understand the need for fairness. However, this salon upholds their business decisions at the expense of customer service. If you're up for the drive, Bananas (College Park) and VSL Hair Design (DC) are excellent and affordable alternatives. read more

I've never been to this salon but was in a pinch and needed a blowout. Arrived for my 8am appointment and the woman behind the receptionist desk apparently couldn't muster up the energy to smile or greet me. She eventually took my name and told me my stylist would be there soon. About 10 minutes later the stylist arrived and announced she need to "unpack". Around 8:20, she finally came to get me and offered no apology for being so late(she was rude throughout the appointment). I explained that I wanted a simple blowout with some soft waves. As I was sitting in the chair, she rambled incoherently about different topics and wasted yet more time. She then announced that she had to go to the restroom because she had been sick all week and was gone for about 10 minutes! Once she had begun to work on my hair for a bit, the receptionist announced that her next client was waiting. At this point, the stylist turned me towards the mirror so I could see what she had done and it almost made me laugh. I had tight curls in the back and a big flop of hair that was pushed to the side in the front. When I said that the hairstyle wasn't flattering, she snapped at me and said it was because I had "touched it". After paying for my blowout, I walked out of the salon in disbelief. I have never received such unprofessional and rude treatment at a salon. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

They "neglected" to write down my appointment but still had me sit and wait for over 10 minutes before telling me they messed up and couldn't get to me unless I could come back much later. I went to get a haircut from Iman last night. I have long hair, asked for a trim of my dry ends, to keep my layers, and to give me a trim around my face in a wedge cut - nothing I have not asked for before and gotten in the last 8 years from any stylist. I was unhappy last night when I got home but couldn't quite figure out why. I brushed it out this morning, and the first thing my partner tells me is that I have "A 90s hair cut. A bad 90s haircut". There is no fixing this except to grow it out or cut it short. If I had wanted it short, I would have asked to have it cut short. It is Absolutely AWFUL. Apparently Iman is good with men's hair. If you are a woman, avoid him like the plague. T be clear, I saw Billy a few years ago and he is AMAZING. I had a recommendation from Iman from a friend of mine (who has short hair, there you go). The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars is because the front desk greeted me when I came in, but forgot to tell the stylist we were waiting. I usually go here for color maybe once a year and then maintain the color on my own. The last time I went I just decided to keep it simple and get a blowout. BE CAREFUL WHO YOU GO TO IF YOU HAVE WHAT SOME CALL NATURAL HAIR. First off my hair is curly and not very thick. I have biracial hair and it takes all of 45 minutes to straighten my hair. The stylist tells me at checkout that my hair is an extra $50 because it's "natural". Never ever ever ever coming back here again no matter who the stylist is. That was such a turn off and to me very discriminating. Also, tell your stylist to stop whispering in the salon as they glance over at other stylist or customers. Very unprofessional and I'll make sure to tell my so called natural friends to never come to this salon. But maybe that's what this salons wants, no "natural" customers. read more

I have mixed feelings about my experience here. I came in for a much needed trim and it turned out kind of funky. The salon was very well kept and the staff was friendly which means a lot to me. Everyone was very chatty which I like ( I think some expensive salons can be kind of stuffy and intimidating ). The price was OK, but the website says $35 and up- not sure why mine was $40. I got a trim that took less than the allotted 30 min... seems like that would be the base price to me. I thought my cut looked really good until I saw the back. When she showed me the back I thought it looked a little funny and I asked about it, but didn't seem too bad so I didn't complain. When I got home my husband told me it looked awful, so I took a closer look - it was uneven, there were some obvious chunks missing at my neckline, and a big scissor line that was not blended at all. It's so weird because the layers in the front look great, so I don't know how this happened. I don't think the hairdresser lacked skill, but I don't think she took the time to look the back over. The mistake was fixed pretty easily. I got my husband to soften up the back at home and it actually looks pretty good now, but there is still one little chunk of hair that is kind of missing back there. Overall the haircut was fine but I don't think it was worth $40+tip. Next time I want a cheap trim I'll go to supercuts and get my husband to do the finishing touches at home! If I was going to do a drastic change, I would go elsewhere. I would possibly try bubbles again with another hairdresser and I would take a closer look before leaving the chair! I've been to other bubbles salons (in DC) several times before and I've had mixed experiences overall. I think their 30 min apt. policy causes otherwise good stylists to cut corners. Got a haircut and a honey chestnut Balayage Ombré hair style a month and a half ago, This is only my second time going to a Bubbles Salon, but my first in Columbia Mall, and everything was great!! Tip: book your appointment and be prepared to spend time there if doing more than a haircut. Anyways, Lindsay was amazing! She started by asking me what I want, how I want to feel with my hair, and how i want to maintain my hair. I told her I did some research on Balayage, didn't want high maintenance hair but still wanted color. my hair did have a little color on the bottom (see picture), and showed her a picture to give her an idea. She listened, asked several questions, then told me exactly how she wanted to go about what i wanted. During the entire process, she was very friendly, continuously asked me if i was okay, and after about 3 (or maybe 4) hours, she was done! she colored, cut, styled and curled my hair and needless to say, I was MORE than satisfied with her work. It was a little pricey, but as she and I even discussed that day (and i was prepared for it) the difference between a cheap $50 vs a $200 Balayage really is a huge difference! and I don't have to worry about constantly coming back to get it retouched and spending probably either the same amount of money or even more, if i had gotten high lights. i definitely recommend this place! if she is available ask for Lindsay, and be prepared to pay (but it is so worth it!) read more

I always go to the Bubbles location in Arundel Mills so I never thought to verify the address when calling ahead to make an appointment. Much to my surprise, when walking through the mall I quickly realized they have moved. Apparently, they have merged with the Bubbles in Columbia mall and are now both together in a brand new location right outside of that mall. Luckily, they were still able to squeeze me in for an appointment. At the end of the day, I was happy with the cut and color so it all worked out.. but I really would have appreciated the heads up when I called originally to make the appointment. read more

I have always been extremely picky about who does my hair. I was going to a high end salon in Annapolis, but decided I needed to look elsewhere because I wasn't in love with my hair...or the price. My friend, and neighbor, recommended her hair dresser, Amber. Her hair has always looked amazing. I never saw her without her color or highlights looking gorgeous, so I finally decided to try it out. I am SO glad I did! Amber is such a classy, genuine and an extremely talented lady. I admit, I was pleasantly surprised at the talent at Bubbles. I avoided chain hair salons for fear of cruddy cuts, but feel I've struck gold with Amber. I usually sit in the chair nervous that my hair will not turn out right, but not with Amber. I've only been twice and already found myself more interested in my conversation with her than what my hair was gonna look like. I had instant faith in her after the first visit. I usually go home and wash and restyle my hair because I don't like how stylists style it, but I found myself in love with the color and how she cut and styled it. I couldn't believe how much I loved how she styled it. If you are looking for a great salon, with excellent hair products (Kerastase, Pureology, etc.), you've got to check the Bubbles in the Columbia Mall out. You'll leave with a smile on your face. This is my first review I have ever written for any service received. I was in tears when I got home. This was a birthday treat - cut and color! I took in pictures of what I wanted, we discussed color and I was very specific. I'm a natural redhead and only color to get rid of those pesky gray hairs. I made a comment while in the chair that the color was very dark to which the stylist replied - it is still wet and it's the lighting in the salon! Here's a suggestion - why don't you change the lighting. When I stepped outside, it wasn't the lighting but was definitely burgundy hair - not what I had requested. All I can say is RUN if they give you Courtney!! If you have long hair that you don't mind shortened a lot - okay; or, if you like a totally different color than what you asked for??? You'll be happy! So, it isn't the first time someone has botched my color - reds are difficult; however, I would expect a botched cut and some other salons but not Bubbles. Who cuts bangs halfway up the forehead??? The next day I call the salon and they're all to happy to "fix" it - although I don't know how you fix a haircut - glue hair back on? I arrive and the person is running late - why couldn't they have called and told me that? Two girls were sitting behind the desk with nothing to do - in fact, one was eating her dinner at the front desk - disgusting. I waited 15 minutes and told them to forget it! No follow-up call, never an inquiry from a manager...... I will never, ever go to this Salon - if there were a way to sue these people, I would. I have to walk around like this for weeks until my hair grows out and grows back. Shame on you!!! read more

When visiting the area, I would come to Bubbles for a blow dry with Kayla. When I called for an appt, I was told she was no longer employed there. I have very curly hair so I asked for someone very senior and qualified. The receptionist booked an appt for me with Sydney. After I arrived, stating that I was there for an appt with Sydney, someone shampooed me and once I was in the chair, began blowing out my hair. I could tell immediately that she didn't have a clue what she was doing. It turns out she wasn't Sydney, who only after I complained came to tell me she was too busy to do my hair. If I wasn't already washed, I would have immediately left. It was the worst blow dry. I will never go back there. read more
