This verdant area next to the dam offers a variety of activities including swimming beaches, picnic…read moreareas, and a trail. I abandoned the trail after a mile and a half because a snake was giving me the evil eye and wouldn't move, but it was a nice quiet forest. The trail passes various campgrounds and roads and the area still feels a bit urban, but for those without the time to go deep into the wilderness it is a nice option reasonably close to Augusta.

This is one of the few places open currently from the COVID closures that has beach access on the…read morelake. It costs $3 for entrance with a car. Today it was extremely crowded. We were able to find a nook to keep our distance from people but some people were just inconsiderate and frankly dumb. There was a fowl smell near the swimming area, I don't know what it was exactly. The water is a bit murky. They do have grills to access. You can rent campsites here. They have restrooms. The ice cream truck came through. They have a boat ramp, fishing spots, a frisbee golf course, hiking and horse riding trails and just a lot to do.

As for parking, I do recommend arriving early, since you may have to park far down on the grass. There was also a good amount of green space to set up a tent for our club and plenty of rowing and food vendors to browse and purchase from. A cool fact, the Savannah River they row on is Georgia on one side, where the club is located, and South Carolina on the opposite bank.

I was ready to be intimidated, but thankfully the exact opposite happened. It is off 5th Street, but you have to go back a little ways to get to the actual location. The building is deceiving in size, as you will find out soon enough. In the bottom are where the different sized row boats are stored. As a member, this is where you get to store your boat and oars. Then there is a gym and row machine. The gym area looks out over Savannah River, which is a beautiful view. The row machine is great for teaching one how to learn to row in sync (I soon learned I needed more practice in that area). You have a second floor where there is a dining area (available for rental by Club members) looking over the river and a balcony. The point person walked me through not only the location, but the overall experience rowing. It was also interesting to learn that the 1996 US Olympic Row Team trained here. My lack of knowledge in this area was not held against me and I hope to join in the new year. *Insider's Tip -If you are new to the world of rowing, go to a intro day. They do them once or twice a year and it is a great first step into this. -Also, once you pass a certain level of training you can come on your own whenever you want. That's any day and any time. I booked this gem on Air bnb. This was an excellent and very comfortable hotel option while we were visiting the Augusta, GA area last weekend. This boathouse lodging is situated conveniently on the Augusta marina, so there was no parking issues. The reservation process was very easy, and we had no issues communicating with the owner all through our visit. This houseboat was an older vessel, that was restored and could easily be enough space for 4 adults. On our visit we just had 2 adults, so the full size bed was more than comfortable. They also have two two size bunkbeds that could be used for kids or other adults. This houseboat was very, very cozy and comfortable. It had direct TV and all the other options (microwave, refrigerator, stove, everything a normal hotel would have. Our hostess was very friendly and added special amenities to ensure we had a great experience. Lots to do in walking distance, make sure you go downtown for some great restaurants.

The event had a LIVE band, which switched out and we enjoyed two singers with guitars. There was beer, food and sponsor tents with lots of FREE schwag! I'd never been to Riverside Park before which is a nice area. I'd come back again especially if I had a dog to walk. Overall, nice event. Oh and the sun came out too!

First year attending but was as a volunteer valet with the Soul City Sirens. The weather threw a…read morewrench in the plans but I enjoyed just the same. Really wish valet only was allowed to avoid confusion and congestion as the participants exited the water and wanted to load their vessels. :) want to participate next year!!!
