I ended up leaving my first visit with The Abyss bubble tea and meandered my way back to Merrill. Today, I decided to treat my son to an evening out in Portland, and we swung into Uncharted for a quick tea. He got a small regular brown sugar milk tea and I got a large Kraken. I'm just as smitten with the vibe and the space now as I was back in December, & know that whenever I'm in town I'll be coming in to get a tasty drink to walk around town with.

The whole bowl feels like a reheat of a leftover. It came very fast after we ordered it, the broth is thin and lack of flavor. The noodle is overcooked, and meat was the worst part. It's reheated meat from who knows when did they cook it, and hard to chew without much flavor. The Costco instant Tonkatsu ramen tastes much better than theirs.

Next, we had Pho at a place in Westbrook that came fairly-highly rated. It was sub-par. So, we arrived at Thanh Thanh 2 with low expectations. We were, however, very pleasantly surprised. We had three things: spring rolls, egg rolls and Pho with flank steak and beef tendon. Both rolls acquitted themselves well, although the accompanying dipping sauces were lacking. The sauce for the spring rolls was not homemade--a basic, out-of-the-jar peanut sauce. The one for the egg rolls looked to be made from scratch, but was relatively bland, and did little to complement the roll. The star was the Pho. Although not the best we've ever had, it was very good. The broth was light, but full of flavor with a touch of sweetness. One criticism: I wish they had brought rare flank to the table, so that we could add it to the piping hot broth. My boyfriend had a Vietnamese coffee, which was tasty, but not served at the table with a phin (drip coffee maker). Overall, it was enjoyable and we won't hesitate to return!
