lb of catfish

My mother ordered a pound of catfish and this is what came. The food is hot and fresh but for what we are paying we should get more than scraps....Its kind of bad that an establishment would give this to their customers as a lb.

A coworker of my husband's recommended this eatery, and even though I frequent Washington Square Shopping Center I had never seen it. We went on Sunday at noon and found a more elderly crowd, well, in our 60's age range plus. I'm sure the demographic may be different on any other day than Super Bowl Sunday. Just outside the door was a sign for a $9.99 basket that immediately interested us. When we entered we found a large chalk board with an extensive menu of very reasonably priced items. The menu included kids' meals, sides, sandwiches, and many seafood offerings. Most are offered grilled or fried. My husband and I ordered the $9.99 fish and shrimp basket, fried, with mac n cheese side for me, a 50 cent upcharge, and the cole slaw for husband, also an upcharge. He had heard the slaw was good, and reported it to be sweet and just ok. The mac n cheese was made with pasta shells and creamy cheese which I found tasty. The accompanying hush puppies were ok, but my husband said they were good. Now the fish was a buttery, flaky, tasty catfish. We both loved it. The shrimp was a nice medium size and tasty as well. Everything was served hot. The food is brought to the table and you bus it yourself. The unsweet tea was very good and my husband got lemonade. There is a good selection of fountain drinks. The restaurant and rest room were clean. It didn't take long to get the food and the server brought various sauces. On the table is bottles of other condiments and napkins. Plastic dinnerware was adequate for the weight of the food. I really enjoyed the food and the reasonable price! The location and hours are also very good as they are open daily for lunch and dinner. I hope to introduce family and friends very soon!

"CATFISH,sutchi" Sutchi is NOT Catfish per the USDA & FDA. Its an Asian fish from Vietnam passed off as many different types of fish.

Something is Fishy at Bubba's. I like Catfish. I try to find catfish on the menu when we go out to seafood restaurants. While ordering at this Bubba's, I noticed that next to the word Catfish on the menu was this very small writing. It said "Sutchi". So, I asked the young man at the counter what Sutchi was. I was told that it was a "more tender Catfish". I asked why it was written so small, but he couldn't answer that. I also noted that every place on the menu Catfish was mentioned, "sutchi" was noted in the same small writing. Well, I ordered it anyway and sat down and waited for my meal. Being the normal iPhone toting human I am, I started googling Sutchi and came up with all kinds of fun facts. Such as Sutchi (also known as Swai) is a freshwater fish native to rivers in Vietnam. How it may contain nasty chemicals, bacteria and antibiotics, AND that restaurants in the USA cannot label/serve Sutchi as Catfish. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has regulations that require restaurants to label their food accurately. This means that if a restaurant is serving Sutchi, they must label it as such. They cannot call it Catfish, or any other type of fish that it is not. There were also warnings about restaurants substituting it for Catfish (and red snapper, sea bass & mahi-mahi). because it cost about 1/4 the cost of real US caught/raised Channel Catfish. So, I don't know if Bubba thinks they're getting around some regulation by adding "sutchi" in small letters next to CATFISH, but I'm guessing that's against the FDA regulations, because clearly, they are trying to fool us into thinking it's Catfish. They got me. My order arrived and I took a few bites of the Sutchi. It was tender, but also tasteless. My wife got the shrimp. Well, we think it was shrimp!

They are way to high and the servings are children sized. Even wawa give you a twelve inch sub and this place a 8 inch. We ordered 2 subs and c a me with drinks 48.00 dollars. This is the size of macaroni don't waste your money if you hungry. This is taste testing, only sample sizes. So disappointed . Back too WaWa.

Straight up delicious fried fish house! Clean, quick and satisfying. I tried the fried captains basket so that I can taste a little bit of everything. The platter came with flounder (looked like baby flounder), scallops, oysters, shrimp, and two sides. The good. Everything was cooked perfectly with the shrimp tender, nicely done flounder, scallops on point and some of the better fried oysters I've had in town. They were large plump and juicy! I was not expecting such a well prepared meal, the breading was light and allowed the flavor of the food to come through! The sides were basic choices; I felt adventurous and tried the coleslaw, fries and hush puppies, lol. The hush puppies are delightfully light and sweet and better of the three. I will come back and try other sides and maybe a specific plate. Not a date night location, but it will satisfy a craving! Highly recommend this spot for sure!

Fried flounder, fried shrimp, fries, green beans, and hushpuppies. Added a drink... $18

First time here. There is a big chalkboard menu so that you can see the different options and combinations. I got the Flounder with shrimp. It came with two sides. I got fries and green beans. It also comes with 2 hushpuppies. It did not include a drink. You pick your cup up buy the drinks and are able to choose from soda, water, and fresh tea (sweet and unsweet). My total was $18 and some change which I think is pretty high a single meal. My fish was extremely salty, it tasted like they put too much seasoning salt. A friend of mine goes here frequently and she said it is not usually that salty. I would not the price was definitely too high to bring my family. Apparently you can get the shrimp steamed but everything else seems to be fried so it is definitely out of my wheelhouse of food choices. So if you want some fresh fried food give this place a try. Just make sure that you know it is going to cost a little more.

One visit to Bubba's and it will become your default seafood restaurant. The food is better than its Gloucester location.

Sophia and I had lunch over the weekend at this spot. We've actually been here twice at their…read moreoriginal location in Yorktown before they moved closer to us. They even got a spot on Channel 13 for their Friday Flavor segment. Let's see how a visit to their new digs went. We were greeted by the staff when we walked inside. For ordering, we would have to go to the counter and pay up front. Afterwards, seat wherever you like. It's very spacious where everything is clean. There's a self-tap section where you can select whatever beverage you like and to the back is a gaming section, particularly if you like axe throwing or cornhole. Not bad for sports buffs. As far as the food goes, it was really good. We had fried pickle chips for apps, which weren't too salty. And the homemade ranch complimented the food well. For my main dish, I selected fish and chips. The fried cod was fresh and hot. And the fries had a good amount of salt to add taste. Overall, a nice time here for a well-known spot expanded for more customers. We will be back here. Till next time :)

The ambience is nice - they have TVs where you can watch games and it's very clean and open space. If you like fried food, this place is for you. Everything is fried and unhealthy. No dessert options for an evening bite. We used to go to the old location in Yorktown, and absolutely loved their fish and chips. We went to the new location tonight and I will say it is a beautiful restaurant. I like how they have games inside so you are entertained. They have a few smaller tables but it is mostly long tables with bar stools. They have axe throwing in the back. They also have many cornhole boards which I believe they advertise that they have cornhole on Wednesdays. While we were there tonight, they had music bingo. It was a lot of fun ! There is a beer wall where you get a card, and have to tap the beer that you want on the wall in order to pour yourself a beer. It is a neat concept however, it's very confusing. It does make it easy to get the beer you want without having to wait on weight staff or a bartender. I had the fish tacos. I am not a big fried food person, and the fish tacos came fried. They were very crunchy and it was hard for me to eat... I felt like the fried part of the fish, overpowered the fish. The ratio of coleslaw to fish was off- There was more coleslaw than there was fish. It was also very difficult for me to eat the tacos and push the fish down into the taco. I will say, the fish was seasoned well and the sauce was delicious- a little kick of heat but not too bad. My fiancé had the Fish and Chips. The "chips" (fries) were seasoned well. He said that he felt they gave you less fish than they used to. I ordered the Sweet & Sour basket, thinking it was candied jalapeños and fried pickles. The jalapeños were sliced like the pickles and fried. You couldn't tell which was which in the basket. I was expecting a non-fried jalapeño with some sort of sticky sauce. They were good but filling and unhealthy. My buddy had the curry fries- it was delicious! I never had curry sauce before and it works well with fries! We went for a birthday party (group of 11) and were incredibly disappointed in the service. While the waiter was kind, we had many food items missing and had to keep asking. The "birthday boy" had his food missing and we asked about it numerous times. A large table that came after us, got complimentary food. Not that we were looking for free food or anything, but the fact there were many screw ups (we didn't complain or act in any way) and that table was treated so well- that annoyed us. I know we will be back because my fiancé enjoys the fish and chips, but if I had the choice, I would not go back for the food only. I would go back for axe, throwing and music bingo !

Today I had a sweet lady take my order and package it all up. She wore a mask the entire time, as so did we. She was helpful at showing us what a deviled crab looked like, and help explain other items. I really appreciate that she took the time to do that. It makes me want to come back and purchase more when businesses do that. There was also an older gentleman inside enjoying a crab cake sandwich. He had the biggest sweetest smile ever. He was a happy a can be with that sandwich, and I was definitely jealous! The crab cakes were delicious. I'm making something with the meat on Friday. Just not sure what yet. The biggest issue was the portion size. The special only came with two tacos, which only contained 6 shrimp in total, which felt a little light for a meal. I was also surprised by the bar. I asked for a mojito and was told that they couldn't make drinks that are not on their menu. Not a deal breaker, but still disappointing because from the looks of it, they had a full-service bar, which I wouldn't think a mojito would be an issue to make. And no, I wasn't asking for a mojito during a busy time when the bartender was slammed. Overall, the food tasted very good and the waterfront location was hard to beat. It was only two small things that kept this from being a 5 star experience, but I absolutely would come back as I enjoyed myself.
