When I asked about a refund, they made it clear that you have to request in the first week of the course. I found that a bit tough because I think most people are hopeful it will get better. Soooo it feels like they tell you it's money back guaranteed but create a system where it's difficult for the consumer to comply. Furthermore, they provide you "options" so that "you are satisfied" but the option to transfer to another course isn't realistic because every instructor uses a different book. Or they offer to let you join a different class in the following month but you have to pay a fee to do that. I didn't want to chance paying more money to have a repeat experience. Furthermore, the month offered isn't compatible with other life stuff, but I was not offered to select a month that is more suitable, hence providing options that aren't doable to say that you provided options of "good will" (they bolded "good will" multiple times in their email). So I guess it depends on what you want, something cheap and you may learn something, or higher quality, probably more expensive but will most likely learn more than a few things.

My personal experience started with a couple of weeks worth of 1:1 German language lessons with one of new tutors, a woman to moved to Berlin to pursue a Master's degree in teaching foreign languages. She was diligent in teaching me some German that I wouldn't necessarily learn in my classes for at least a month or so, but would be useful for getting around. I then took the intensive A1.1 and A1.2 level courses for a couple of months, which were the equivalent of perhaps a year of high school German. The format of the classes includes lecturing, role-playing, practicing verbally with classmates, and the more traditional workbook exercises. German got difficult quickly, so I started taking the A2.1 evening courses as a way to give myself time to really digest the language. Same format as the daytime intensive courses, but it took a few months to get through the same material. PRO-TIPS: + If you're planning on taking intensive courses during the summer, do yourself a favor and register before the 20th. Not only do you get a €5 discount off the course, but you'll actually get the course you want. I made the mistake of not doing this and lost my space in a class with the best instructor I had. + My favorite instructor was Marten (sp?), one of the instructors for the intensive daytime course. While some of the teachers go by the textbooks (boring!), Marten was great about giving short lectures that gave us just enough information to practice whichever concept was the lesson for the hour. I loved how he gave us the "Legos" and encouraged us to build sentences with them. + While the textbook and workbook total to around €20 per course (a reasonable cost), there are some cash-strapped folks that might appreciate that you can actually borrow the books by paying the purchase price and just making sure you erase all your answers before returning the materials at the end of the course. As long as the books don't have any visible marks, you get your money back. There are many language school options in Berlin, but I felt like I really got a decent exposure to German for a reasonable price.

When I first contacted Das Akademie, the support staff responded quickly and were very friendly and supportive in helping me find the best fit for a class. I was only in Berlin for seven weeks and wished to develop more confidence in speaking. I also have mild/moderate hearing loss and felt it might be better to have a one-on-one teacher to work with me. I wear hearing aids and with them most people don't realize I have trouble hearing, but language learning can be more difficult. On my first day, I spent time with the Director at DAS Akademie as he helped to choose a teacher that was a perfect fit. She quickly figured out that although I had learned many individual vocabulary words, I was still having difficulty with pronunciation and sentence structure. Rather than rush through exercises to "cover" material, we spent extra time practicing asking and answering questions so that I felt comfortable actually speaking in public. She was not only very creative in coming up with different ways of helping me practice, she did so in such a positive, energetic and fun way. My seven weeks passed way too fast. Each day that I walked into Das Akademie Berlin I was greeting with big smiles and encouraging words from everyone. Next summer I will likely come back to Berlin and if I do I will definitely be coming back. Everyone from the Director, to the teachers and all of the support staff are wonderful.

However, she did tell the staff she was feeling ill and felt she had a fever. They were dismissive of her(didn't even have a thermometer to check) and essentially brushed her off. Day 2 she came up positive with Covid. Thank god I was still in town. The woman in charge of student health was much more interested in defending her position(why she didn't help my sick child) than having any concern for her well being. This staff person should not be anywhere near education or young people. What a horrible person. My daughter has attended numerous summer camps and is very independent, this was not "In her head". As an educator I also know a well run program when I see one. Parents, you have been warned.

The Transmitter team definitely takes that into account, and through the small class sizes, frequent partner and team activities, as well as encouragement to use German outside of classes, everyone has been making a lot of really amazing progress. Which is good. it was difficult to understand at the beginning, but it does help me to improve my listening and speaking so much faster. In the end, I actually have a really good time and all my friends here was really surprise how my german could improve so much is such a short time. Something I have to say it, I also have some good friends their job are teaching. I do know how much to difficult to teaching an adult than a kid. Most of the time adult has too much pride and too rely on the teacher. As a student should find the way in balance, see what is the really important thing, and made the right call. Of course, The teacher is also the problem. sometime when the methods really doesn't fit you, better just switch to others, instead of waiting. One other thing i have to mention from my own experience. Most of the students come here just for study, but it doesn't mean everyone will be nice and open minded. Some of them bring their own discrimination to this country and bully other students. This school is really stand up for students that who bully and prejudiced. They really care about this. Some schools even they noticed the problem will simply ignore it. For me, beside teachers and students, also the school environment is a really important part of the study. The last two month, I took the B2 lever class. Went to different class. It was really different. The atmosphere is not as good as before. I didn't like the methods of that teacher so i did switch my class and found the teacher with the methods that fit me better. The thing is I think most the schools are the same. After all, it's really depend on what kind of school you looking for. Several German professors from my University told me how the Goethe Institut is one of the best…read morelanguage institutes to study at for German, so my friend and I decided to take a trip to Berlin to study for one month at GI, with hopes of becoming more fluent in German. I'll let you know right now this place is pricey, and I wish I had known about other credible language schools before deciding upon Goethe. I learned from several locals, whose first language wasn't German, that there are language institutes in Berlin that are much cheaper and better than GI. Also, if you're going to be taking courses at GI for a month, you might not be assigned a tandem partner (so much for wanting to improve my speaking skills!). We showed up on orientation day where we took placement tests which consisted of multiple choice and essay questions. After, we were interviewed by some of the teachers. My interview went very well, and the woman who interviewed me became my teacher for the B1-Level Intermediate German course. On the other hand, my friend didn't enjoy her interview and thought her interviewer was a jerk in the way he asked questions and made negative remarks on her attempt to speak in German. That's the last thing you want to experience when learning a language! My class had about 20-25 people, all were from different countries. Although my teacher was nice and helpful at times, I didn't enjoy her teaching style. We often worked in groups then presented our answers to exercises to the class. She would correct us or offer suggestions, but I didn't think this helped with my learning. Her explanations didn't meld well with my mind. We also had to do a presentation on any topic we wanted. Some of the students in class were arrogant and made rude remarks about some of the topics presented, and the teacher didn't even bother to correct this problem. GI provides learning materials to students, such as workbooks and worksheets. Maybe I'm used to reading and doing work from a textbook, but I found the workbooks to be useless. There wasn't any valuable information pertaining to grammar, which is a MUST KNOW. Knowing German grammar at an intermediate level will greatly help if you decide to invest in these courses. The workbook only consisted of a bunch of corny stories that failed to illustrate valuable concepts...if any. We only used them in class because many of the exercises required listening to audio recordings. The worksheets were a little more helpful, but there were hardly any instructions. There were a few things that I liked about this class: 1. We played all sorts of learning games to help retain vocabulary and information. 2. We took field trips to historical sites in Berlin. The class was divided into small groups and given worksheets with questions to answer. The following week we'd present our findings. I didn't attend the last two weeks of class because it wasn't beneficial, and I still received a certificate. Overall, I wouldn't suggest taking courses at GI. It's expensive, overrated, and the quality of education is terrible.

I communicated it with Die Neue Schule and they gave me a voucher to use for the next course (They wont give money back) without tell me that if you dont take the next course for any reason (included visa), your voucher will lose any vality... So even I was applying for a National Visa because I got an admission at the university, I signed up for a new course but not depending of this school for get my visa. However, the embassy in my country took their time to answer me and I couldnt come to Berlin when the course started. So I lose 180 EUROS because they did not tell me anything about that.... Is not my fault that I coudnt attend school on time and they just took my money. Is not the first time that it happened, I know students who decided to left this school and start in a new ones, because they have weird polities... As today, an employee told me, I had to read better, but I dont really wanted to read the conditions of a paper... I JUST WANTED TO LEARN GERMAN. Anyways...
