I am not really a comic book type person. That being said, there is a particular graphic novelist I stalk. He is a 2nd cousin that I have only met once, and that was a couple of years ***cough***read: decades***cough*** ago. Anyway. I know a book is scheduled to come out soon and am looking for one other of his. While I found none of his works here, I did not look too deeply, nor did I ask. I did find a graphic novel of a compilation of fairy tales that I did get. If I were not already nervous about coming into a store that is out of my comfort zone, I would have asked the guy working. Inside is very neat and clean and seemed to be well organized. I went on a weekend morning, and it was not busy at all. This seems to be an awesome place that a comic book or graphic novel person could spend all day in and I don't think the management would mind. There is plenty of parking in front, and this store is nestled in a small strip mall. read more

Stopped in with a coworker friend of mine to look around for a birthday gift for her son. This comics shop is pretty expansive with books and toys galore. On the day that we were here, my friend was looking for something specific, and although they didn't have what she was looking for in store, they offered to order it for her. Of course, they have some rare books that you can buy as well as some collectors items. I'm not really into comic books, but the woman working was super friendly and helpful and showed me around a bit and gave me an idea of what they have. I want to go back and bring David because he loves comic books and I know that he'd appreciate this spot. read more

I know absolutely NOTHING about comics or graphic novels. Unless it was made into a movie, I've probably never heard of it. But BSI made me feel like a kid again. Still loving the comic shop...though I am woefully ignorant on most of what they carry. I've been hanging out here a bit more lately, since I joined one of their graphic novel bookclubs. The Sandman bookclub on (usually) the 2nd Sunday evening of a month for the next year; next month is volume 3. There is a huge selection of back issues taken in trade if you want to dig for a treasure and I always peruse the used graphic novel section to see if there is anything I need. read more

Great shop that takes care of its regular customers. Amazing staff that goes above and beyond every time. BSI also has a back issue area that is pretty good, even if you don't find what you're looking for the staff will make it happen! I love most of the comic shops in the area but its all the little things that BSI does that makes me a regular. read more

WARNING: Dishonorable Business Practices My wife and I went to BSI Comics to purchase a gift using store credit that I received from selling some items to the store. Fletch, the employee working at the time, refused to honor the store credit! Even though the store credit receipt claimed that the credit "will never expire", Fletch still refused to honor the debt. Fletch claimed to call the owner, who was the source of refusal. They offered me 20% off of an item, and I refused to accept the insulting offer. The excuse Fletch gave was that the store had changed ownership, but that should not affect the customer! When you purchase a business, you buy both the assets and the liabilities detailed in the balance sheet. If the business has debt, and the new owner does not want to pay the debt out of pocket, then the purchasing price should be reduced by the amount of the debt. The business cannot dissolve debt that they owe, especially to a customer! In the end, Fletch even said that they have had trouble like this in the past. So that means I am not the first customer BSI Comics refused to honor their store credit. I sold my comic collection to the store, and now they refuse to pay me for it. I left my contact information for the owner, and I have not received any attempted contact from the owner more than a week later. Let this be a warning to customers looking to do business with BSI Comics. The new owner is terrible. Take your business elsewhere. I want to support local businesses, but not one that steals from the community! read more

I used to go to BSI back in 1999, and definitely changed for the better. Everything is clearly organized: new releases right by the entrance, older back issues and card games upstairs, graphic novels in the back. (P.S. BSI is a top notch comic shop. I am a life long customer, returning to buy when I am on vacation. The staff is knowledgeable and takes pride in steering customers to good choices. I have personally seen the owner, Jason, help several parents with only the slightest idea of what their kids were interested in. He was able to steer them to a home run gift with just a few questions. Their folder customers stay long term and seem to have quite a community within the shop. It's a huge shop and in a con isn't location. I would give them a shot. read more

My favorite comic book store in the area. (And I've been to almost every store in the GNO, including some that no longer exist.) Staff is always friendly, and merch changes up all the time. And while there's always a huge section of new releases to comb through, you can always find something else that'll catch your eye: action figures, geek toys, manga, memorabilia, and apparel to name a few. Don't forget to scope out the stacks upstairs for that long lost issue you've been looking for. They also take trade-ins for store credit on gently read graphic novels. I don't visit comic shops often but when I need to, it's this one. They know what they have and what they don't and will go through whatever channels they have to find it for you. The best part, they KNOW comics. Any time I've asked for suggestions they had tons. They didn't just point to the lastest thing like "read that yet?" No. They get personal and ask questions to figure out whats right for you. read more

When another local comic book shop was closed during that store's hours, i made my way to BSI comics instead, and I'm glad I did. I called ahead to make sure they carried what I was looking for, and the employee was very nice over the phone. When I got there, he welcomed me, and then he assisted me in in finding some of what I was looking for. He didn't make me feel dumb, when i asked for something that was pretty outlandish. He just explained the facts and helped me find similar items. I left with a bunch of stuff and was fairly happy with my selection, although I will definitely have to do so more searching. The upstairs section could have been neater, as there was plenty of stuff that needed to go through the intake process, but I'd say that about 85% of the store was well organized, making it super easy to find stuff. It was my first trip to a comic book store, so I can't really comment on prices, but I assume they're moderate/fair. I can't wait to go back. I was sort of in wonderment as I was walking through the shop for the first time. I'm a 26 year old female, and I'm really curious about the comic book world, and I look forward to learning more, finding my ideal comics/super heroes, and making my way back to this shop to explore some more. read more

I've been going to BSI since before Katrina and it just keeps getting better and better. BSI recently added a half-price graphic novel section that is quickly becoming a favorite area for my son. The selection of regular priced graphic novels and trade paperbacks is very good, and the comics are even sorted into "new release" and previous month release sections. The people who work there are knowledgeable and friendly. Want to know about the recent genre movie release? Walk in and ask someone and listen as everyone in the store joins in for the group discussion. This is one of my favorite things about comic shops, the sense of community, and BSI certainly has that. read more

Decent sized for a comic book store in New Orleans with ample room to feature current issues and trades downstairs while having back issues upstairs as well as tables upstairs for card games and tournaments. Only bad thing about visiting BSI is the occasional lack of parking in the lot for the strip mall. read more

I wasn't much of a comic book nerd growing up, so the adulthood nostalgia leading to a collecting habit hasn't been an issue for me. I do like to visit BSI nonetheless as they have some nifty items I'd not seen elsewhere, like the scale model Imperial Walker (or is it an AT-AT? Nerds, duke it out) I bought for my nephew's birthday a while back. Of course now, with half of the movies and TV shows out there being based on the Marvel, DC and graphic novel material in the shop, there's more for me to be interested in now than when I was a kid. The owner is as knowledgeable and helpful as he is grumpy and sarcastic, and that's a plus with me, too. read more

The good: Nice display for new comics and great selection of t-shirts. Decent size of back-issues and very friendly staff. The bad: The back-issue section is unkept and there are too many role-playing games being held in this section for the customers to shop comfortably. I was even almost hit by an empty soda can as one of the "gamers" launched it to the trash can right near some back-issues I was going through. read more

I absolutely love going to this store. I am treated so well by all the staff that works there. If I am looking for a certain book, they will do everything within their power to get that book for me.
