They even have a window display which will look like junk to the casual observer but to someone like me it gives me plenty of ideas of what to go for. I mean, I often want rare germanium transistors, various IC's. Random sized ceramic and poly caps along with all sorts of trim pots and things. They've got all this in those little draws on the walls and the happy ending is that they are usually priced at 'cost + 2-3p' instead of it is all £1.99 mate. I mean what slightly autistic person with an engineering mind doesn't want to be asked a dozen questions about what type of wire you want when you ask for wire? This place is perfect as it modern retail terms it is like the shop that time forgot. Only complaints is that is gets very busy because of the specialised and sometimes complex help you'll get from them and you've got to put up with it but I don't mind as sometimes I've felt guilty for how much of their time I've used up. As an example I've gone in looking for a certain IC. They've not got it because it is some ancient archaic one which is now covered by a more fully functioned one. They've checked over my badly drawn circuit diagram, checked in a phone book sized book of specification sheets and picked out several alternative IC's based on my current requirements and suggested how some will even be better and have additional functions. Thanks guys I'll take one! How much? 40 pence? Hahaha you must hate my guts!

Each time I go in there they are always up for a chat. They also know most of their customers on a first name basis. The manager has a good rapport with his staff and his customers and always has laugh and a joke. I recently had a problem with one of my items but they were on the case very quickly. There was a big delay in getting in back but each time I asked about it they were quick to make a few phone calls and follow up for me. The problem was with the head office and not the store. On the odd occasion I have been late with payments, I have never had any threatening phone calls as are reported from other stores. I just had a polite phone call reminding me that payment is due. I love that you can go in and sit down on the big comfy leather sofas while you wait to be served and sometimes there is even coffee and biscuits on offer.

The staff couldn't be more friendly and will bend over backwards to help you. Nothing is too much trouble. The prices in there aren't too bad at all. OK the nature of the business means there are no cheapies but certain stores are still well over priced but not here at Music man. The after care service is great, nothing is too much trouble for them and they want their customers to go away happy. My daughter is quite happy to go back here for all her guitar accessories as well as the next time she needs her guitar restrung.

They specialise in the cheaper range of gear like behringer and their clones and they strike an uneasy balance between musical instruments and accessories and mobile DJ's and karaoke machines. I get the impression that they started out as a mobile DJ and karaoke machine supplier along with some cheaper PA's and sound systems and branched out into a few of the budget guitars and things and now they've got this uneasy mix. I'm always going for either highly technical queries regarding professional equipment which they can't really help with and would have to order in anyway or I'm on the musical instrument side which they only cover the basics of for the purposes of the beginner. It is nice to see independent businesses though.

I have had a fridge-freezer from them and computer chairs, wardrobes, chest of drawers, sofas and even a bathroom cabinet. They are all friendly and helpful and eager to please. They will deliver the item for you and you can even haggle on the price from time to time. Well it's worth a try isn't it? They have a lot of really old furniture which comes from house clearances but they do sometimes have some real nice new stuff too. They have a lot of Sofas and suites and beds that must be ex-catalogue or something like that as they look brand new and they are at brand new prices. In theis time of recession we need things to be cheaper so if you are looking for a new suite or any household furniture I would try here first.

I had beef bourguignon, while Mrs G had a Quiche Lorraine with chips and peas/salad, and then I had apple pie with custard while she had lemon meringue pie.
