Gerald from Truly Grateful Transports is the absolute most amazing person I have ever done business…read morewith. I live in MD and Last minute on the day of a dear friends mothers funeral I realized I hadn't sent the memorial gift that I had wanted to send him due to my busy schedule and being under the weather! I was calling all the local florist in the area and none would deliver the day of. Also some of the so called big names wanted to charge me an arm and a leg plus they could not guarantee an on time delivery time. Last minute I thought to google couriers to see if I would have any luck. Gerald answered on the other line very bubbly and bright mind you it was before 8 am on a Saturday. Not only did he agree to assist me, he recommended a great florist, he also gave me ideas on how to package it the exact way I wanted to do it. Then he communicated to me several times make sure I was able to get everything squared away. As we only had a small window of about 2 hours get everything done before the florist closed. Then he went and picked up everything from the florist and another store. He sent photos of everything in his office and sat and baby sat the package, for a few hours, as the place to be delivered wouldn't open until 2 pm. He delivered the package before the family arrived and viola he made me look like the good friend that I am without a hitch. His prices were way more reasonable than the big wigs so of course I left a tip. His customer service and courtesy was amazing. His knowledge of the area and recommendations were spot on. He was trusting and eased all of my worries by answering all of my questions and more. As another small business owner to another I really appreciate you for being there in my time of need. Keep up the great work Gerald, you are definitely a rare breed. Best, Hollie

These free ferries connect Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. They have a few different sizes. Some ( the…read morelarger ones hold about 30-35 cars) with a small air conditioned area upstairs that holds roughly 50 people. While the smaller version holds about 20-25 cars that doesn't have that AC area upstairs. The ride takes roughly 1 hour & 15 minutes each way. There is a small terminal on the Hatteras side almost like a rest area. During the day ferries run every 1/2 hour. Believe they also have a express passenger only ferry which one has reserve in advance and isn't free. The only amenities are restrooms downstairs. Riders are allowed to leave there cars once the ferry has departed the terminal. Enjoy the view. :)

It's free. You get what you pay for! Long wait on a Wednesday in October. Arrive super early,…read morebefore the ferries start if you want to be on the first one. We arrived at 10:30AM and waited for 5 ferries until we got on. They don't hold a ton of cars and they carry commercial vehicles which ofter take up the space of 2-3 cars. They hold about 30 cars and it takes 55 minutes to cross. It use to be faster but they have to take a longer route now. This ferry is funded by the state of North Caroline and is part of the transportation budget. They use to allow the ferry to go over budget but now they cut back service after the season to make sure they stay under budget. Unless you really, really, really want to see Oacracoke, it's not really worth losing 7 hours of your day. There are a few nice places to eat, but not a ton of shopping.
