I hired Andy, the business owner, and one helper to work with me sorting through the home, separating trash, donations and items with potential value. His expertise made this overwhelming job go much smoother than expected. Andy holds special qualifications in jewelry and antique appraisal that eliminated a lot of guesswork. He also gave quick, objective, accurate assessments of a whole houseful of odd items like crystal, flatware, china, art, jewelry, furniture and collectables. Downsizeology is not cheap, but they're worth every penny and delivered great value for the money I spent. Note that they are licensed, insured and bonded for a whole range of services including turn-key clean out of homes, buying entire estates and moving services, as well as the strategic evaluation they did with me.

My MIL was an "enthusiastic collector" of lots of useless stuff which resulted in a daunting clean-out task. Andy arranged to meet us the day after we contacted him and a week after that the entire apartment was cleaned out and left spotlessly clean. Andy is meticulous about spotting items of value amongst a sea of worthless clutter and provided us a credit on his fees for these items. The company philosophy is to donate and/or recycle as much of the remaining items as possible thereby minimizing what ends up in the landfill. We totally recommend Downsizeology for your down-sizing or home clean-out needs. They are worth every penny of the fees they charge.

I called on a Monday and she did all 3 site visits on Friday of the same week. 2. I received all 3 reports on Sunday, just 6 days after my initial call. 3. She was extremely pleasant to deal with. 4. I was thrilled with the values she determined. 5. The price was very reasonable. Her fee was 35% less than what I had to pay for an appraisal with my last refi. The purpose of my appraisals were estate tax issues. After a death in the family member, I had properties that needed a step up in basis for the IRS. This is not the most common reason for an appraisal. It determines how much you are going to pay in capital gains when you eventually sell. She nailed it. I am so happy I used her, and would recommend her to anyone. I have passed her business card on to my attorney. I am very hard to please, so it is a double success that I am so pleased.
