You might be tempted to put little importance on the older review by a couple who signed a contract with Bryan and then found that Bryan was too busy to be bothered. This review is to confirm that in all these years his M.O. hasn't changed. He still goes MIA after he convinces you to use him as your agent. In a complicated financial and legal transaction, you shouldn't have to keep leaving voicemails searching for your agent. If he's too busy to help you when you need it, then he's not worth the high commissions he is asking from you. Remember, you're not buying the property from him. You're paying him to provide a service. If he isn't consistently available to his cliens, then the value of his service is poor. Ask for recommendations from friends and do your research before you choose an agent. Lastly, avoid using additional services he recommends. They overcharge and are rude to clients. My sister needed to move to an independent living facility after living in her home for 33 years. Bryan Devore came recommended by an elder care specialist, and he was a perfect fit. Among other things, Bryan specializes in guiding seniors who are transitioning out of their homes of many years and into senior living communities. Bryan was also someone with whom we felt immediately comfortable. He was willing to listen to our ideas, give us options, and then let us decide. Most of all, he wanted us to be happy. He even included a generous allowance in his commission to apply toward the costs of a special move-out company who helped my sister downsize, unclutter, and pack, then unpack and set up at her new space. Once the house was empty, we had a lot of fix-up and remodeling to do. Although Bryan got us a bid for a contractor doing the work, we chose to do it ourselves with our own connections. Even so, Bryan was always available for our numerous questions. We valued his expert advice on what finishes and amenities made the most sense in our situation. We asked anything from, "What areas are vital to renovate?" to "What improvements can we make without a complete renovation?" We even wondered what style of refrigerator would work best and whether he had a junk hauler who could remove three water heaters from the attic? (He did.) Every time he got right back to us with great advice and options, once even while on his honeymoon in Europe! Now that's first class service. Our project lasted from July to November. After the first buyer fell out of escrow, we were facing a very tough real estate market (Novenber 2022). We asked Bryan about the idea of staging the house, even though we were trying to economize. Bryan told us that, statistically speaking, staging even a few rooms will tend to help sell the house more quickly and for a higher price. We went along with the idea, hoping to avoid the fast-approaching holiday season, and sure enough, the property sold after the first open house, with two offers, and closed in 14 days! And though Bryan's office is located in Carlsbad and the house was in North Park, the distance was never a problem for Bryan and his team. Most people don't truly understand the importance of word of mouth. Had my experience been better I might have told friend's positive things about Bryan, resulting in referrals. Instead I'm writing this review to tell my experience. We used Bryan to buy our first home. All first home buyers know how confusing, stressful, and scary the process can be. Every day something new happens. So an agent is suppose to help you navigate the home buying process. Bryan did a poor job at that. Let me explain what happen. My wife and I had picked a new construction condo to purchase. We have always been taught that regardless of the situation you should always hire a real estate agent. So after already picking where we want to life, we decided it could not hurt to hire an agent. I mean someone might as well get a commission? He could get paid doing little and we would benefit by getting advise. The main problem was Bryan went MIA for weeks without a single check-in, and left me hanging at a critical time. All home buyers know the last two weeks are crazy. A new problem comes up by the hour. At this critical time, Bryan was not present. His response time was always delayed. That was a problem because everything changes hour to hour during escrow. While some of it has to do with lag from construction, every agent we told our story to was just baffled by this unprofessional lack of communication and care on Bryans part. Bryan never provided the piece of mind an agent should. I really got upset once Bryan started to come around after escrow closed! In a way it felt like he was more checking in to see if it was time to get paid. Even with all these negatives, my wife and I were going to take a "let it go" approach. No nasty calls, no letters, no negative Yelp reviews, zero! That was until I got a letter in the mail from him. We got a passport gift card with a note that read "here is a little something I promised you" Now let me explain what a "Passport Gift Card" is. It is basically a buy-1 get-1 free COUPON for an appetizer at a limited number of restaurants. To be honest a simple thank you card would have done wonders. We felt like this corporate giveaway was disrespectful given we let Bryan enter the deal after we picked our home. We felt like Bryan may be use to doing larger deals in our area. So our small condo was not big enough for him. What he does not understand is one day we will sell our "small condo" ( which will need a listing agent) and move into a larger home he is use to selling (which we will need a buying agent). At that time I will not use Bryan Devores service. Before I close this review I do need to be fair. When he did communicate his knowledge was great. He did provide good advice the few times we communicated. read more
