We brought our kids here for ice cream while on vacation it was so hot we were excited to try this place out. We ordered the following: Two kids Dino/dirt ice cream cups Two milkshakes One brain freeze Hubby and I tried our shakes and were immediately disappointed they both tasted like warm milk which is so confusing because we ordered peach and chocolate chip cookie dough. The kids refused to eat the toppings and didn't really seem to care for the cookie and candy on top. The brain freeze was the only thing that got a positive review so that's what the star is for. The service was basic no complaints but nothing to write home about. Not worth the money for us. Great location with outdoor only seating, the staff is fast paced. We visited on a hot afternoon and lived all the flavors. I highly recommend their Chocolate Raspberry flavor. Great for groups, kids and family. It is moderately priced good ice cream. I highly recommend visiting this location for some ice cream on a hot summer day. We found this place after a walk at Bud Kelley Park. Perfect place for a sundae. I got a banana split and my husband got the strawberry shortcake sundae. They were so good and we even got a cup for our puppies for free. The fruit is really fresh and delish. Highly recommend this place. read more

This location has changed ownership at least three times in 10 years, however the concept of hiring younger kids seems to be the 'it factor of appeal. When we arrived last week temperatures were hovering around 72ish. I thought some ice cream would break the monotony for the week. We came here at 6pm and surprising they has a small line. When it was our turn we were asked about flavors we wanted to sample. Since I had my flavor picked already I declined. I ordered the pistachio and chocolate turtle. Creamy consistency and no complaints. The server was curteous and very quick. Also my scoop was still what I think it should have been for the price I paid for. Today I returned and again-no complaints. Great service. Handicap Parking - 2 spots of which 1 was occupied by their company trailer. That's a FEDERAL violation and someone might call since they have NO tag. And yeah even IF its in your parking lot you can STILL get a ticket. I've NEVER had a complaint in regards to this particular Bruster's location. I was a little surprised by the lack of stars they've received actually. This location is often handled by high school or young adults which can seem frustrating to some. However, I like the concept of allowing younger adults to be or adults learn how to serve and assist others. I also think it's cute that each person can personalize their own "tip jar." I one have seen someone have one to get a keep and others for college tuition! Today 10/12 was my first time ever going to this place I finally got a chance to get some ice cream and my experience was disgusting. I ask for a waffle bowl with brownies and Carmel apple crunch. The young blond headed female made it, But after she made it which it was wrong she came to the window and asked me you asked for a waffle bowl didn't you? I said yes, clearly she was paying attention. She went over and was trying to decide whether she was gonna keep it and just add to it, but she ended up throwing it away. But when she made it over she gave me the waffle bowl filled with brownies overdid it horribly with the fudge she put too much fudge on it the ice cream really wasn't enough and I paid $8 and .30 or .40 for it. I wanna does the owner or the manager pay attention to the business because I don't think they would be comfortable with how the employees are working. This free standing building is incredibly homey and nostalgic. Iv been coming to this blusters since it had a "Nathan's " attached to it and they never miss. Average customer service for the most part but it never hurts the quality of the ice cream or the feeling of eating ice cream outside on a hot day with their outside seating, shadowed by table umbrellas. The ice cream is good, but the staff doesn't wear gloves at all when scooping, and they don't wash their hands after handling money. They go right back to scooping ice cream and making waffle cones. The tables outside are totally disgusting. If they bothered to clean the tables, ever, perhaps they wouldn't be so bad. This is my favorite place to get ice cream and hang out with my friends and family. The employees are always super nice and helpful! I love how the flavors change occasionally and they always have deals going on. In the summer they are always playing good music. For an outside seating area, it is very clean and always looks nice. Sure, everyone may have a Bruster's somewhere near them, but not everyone has a Nathan's Famous Hot Dog's AND Bruster's Ice Cream in the same building! I'm one of the lucky few! I'm 8 months pregnant... I only tell you this because it's important to my story about the wonderful food, but more importantly, the wonderful employees. In the first trimester of my pregnancy, I had a constant craving for Nathan's Mini Corndogs. However, as some people don't believe hot dogs are good for you during pregnancy, I tried to limit my intake of them. One fateful night, I sent the other half to Nathan's, as I could no longer quell my cravings. He called... Fear and trepidation in his voice, and let me know that Nathan's had shut down their fryer and was there anything else I wanted. I immediately asked what time they closed and started screaming that a business should not shut down their fryer 30 minutes before closing, no I didn't care how long it took the fryer to cool and be cleaned, and no, I didn't care if the economy was bad and the company couldn't afford to pay all it's workers to stay late and do these duties. I begrudgingly agreed to a hot dog, but demanded fries, (since Nathan's couldn't deliver on those either) from somewhere, anywhere. I then called a friend and screamed to them about the injustice of life and turned off fryers. The other half came home, as I was still fuming, threatening to email everyone, including the President of the United States to demand justice. This was when The Other Half pulled out a Nathan's Paper Menu, which included all of their food... And the phone numbers (cell phone numbers) of a couple of the employees for whenever I may have a craving near closing time. The wonderful employees had given The Other Half strict instructions to call the business, or them, and let them know he was on his way, would be up there, and his pregnant wife was needing Mini Corn Dogs and please not to turn off the fryers yet or start the food, whichever he deemed fit. Yes, that made me feel like Pregnantzilla, everyone was going to be so nice and accommodating to the pregnant lady. Just a couple of weeks ago, I sent The Other Half to the Bruster's side. Not two days before, I had the most addictive, delicious Coffee Ice Cream with Chocolate Chip on a cake cone. The thing is, it wasn't your dinky chocolate chips, it was huge, thin chunks of broken up dark chocolate. Like they had a long, thin, dark chocolate board and shattered it with a sledge hammer. Those were the pieces that were in my Coffee Ice Cream. I needed more. The baby needed more. We were desperate. I got a call as soon as The Other Half arrived, only to tell me that my only heart's desire was no longer on the menu. This time, I managed to stay calm... I politely asked (ok, there may have been a little hysteria in my voice) if possibly they may be able to just give me coffee ice cream and if they happened to have the chocolate chunks, to just place them on top of the coffee ice cream. And don't forget the cake cone, which is not the same as a sugar cone, thank you very much. So, after some explanation on his part, about he is scared to go home to his pregnant fiance if he doesn't have what has been demanded, the employees do a great job to help him keep his limbs attached to his body! And, he brings me home my delicious, delicious ice cream. The only reason why I give this Nathan's and Brusters 4 stars is not because of the quality of the food, or the quality of it's employees... It's because of the customer's that seem to visit this particular location on the South Side. Bruster's commonly has two windows. Back at "my old Bruster's" in Tucker, people would stand in one line, and whichever window was opened next, they would go to. This was a great, efficient way to do business. So, as I was waiting for my ice cream, I was standing in what I thought was the only line. Apparently, as the woman in the left window was finished with her business, the customer behind me didn't think it should be my turn and cut me off as I started walking to the window. Let me tell you that it's very dangerous to cut a very pregnant woman off walking to an ice cream window. But she did, and I let it slide (even though horror movie screen shots started playing in my head). As she finished, I started walking to the window again, and another person, again, cut me off and went up to the window. By this time, I was speaking very loudly about my discontent with the patrons and their inability to be polite to a pregnant woman and many other not so nice things. The other half got to experience this first hand when he went a couple of days later and was constantly "butted" and interrupted from his order because a woman, who refused to get out of her car multiple times, kept sending her 10 year old son to "fix her problems" (including change - which was correct in the first place, toppings, cones, etc) with no apologies for her constant interru read more

I happened to go to this location. Apparently they have went under new management again since January ! They do have the free baby cones and in any flavor now and the dog cups. And they have the dog biscuits now, too. I didn't know they offered them but as soon as they saw my dog, the nice girl at the window offered me one. Everything looked clean to me. I asked for an extra cup and was not charged. I think this place just gets a bad wrap. Its a lot of young kids working there. As for the tables, I have personally seen them be cleaned in the mornings as I work very close to this location, and I think the black stuff on the tables is just from being outside furniture. Positive - the ice cream is good at this location. Negative - I concur with another reviewer who indicated that the staff does not wear gloves when scooping ice cream. They also do not wash their hands after handling money. As stated by someone else - "they go right back to scooping ice cream." Last but not least..I ordered two scoops of ice cream from this location recently. When I received my order, one scoop was extremely liquefied and the small section that was firm was quickly melting. I informed the employee and he stated that they "just made" that batch. First question...why would they sell ice cream that was just made and not properly set to firm? I politely requested to change my ice cream selection and the employee had the nerve to say, "I can't because you have been eating it?" I quickly replied that I had not and was appalled that he would make a false statement. One could clearly see that he was agitated but I did not care. The next part is priceless.....instead of throwing away the liquid that was supposed to be ice cream, he attempted to scrape it out...? Came back after being gone for a while. They don't use the square (or not that I saw). They still don't have free baby comes any more, as the sign has since been taken down. Pretty frustrated with server 17. I believe her name is savannah. We brought our dog with us on this trip because we have always gotten him a dog sundae along with our ice cream. We come back specifically because it's fun to eat ice cream and be able to bring our dog along. Earlier I overheard her saying how it was too busy and when we asked the server If they still had dog sundaes she hesitated and shook her head no. There was a jar of dog treats on the counter next to us. Obviously she lied. It's a shame because we usually tip $2-3 for the dog treat. Lying is the most disrespectful thing a person can do. Your job is to provide what the customer orders. Not just what you feel like serving. We will not be back. Ben and Jerry's is less expensive and has more 'goodies' packed inside it's ice cream. read more

Ice cream is pretty good. They only let you get a free baby cone in like three flavors. if you or your kids cone is dripping and you ask for a cup to turn it in too expect to be charged for it .They changed owners recently so that's when these new rules started to take place and the prices went up , the scoops got smaller. I used to come here and get a nice sized waffle cone now they're really small with barely any ice cream. The one star is for the friendly staff. read more
