Went for dinner and had a biefstuck (steak). Started with a beer and they brought warm bread to the…read moretable with a creamy spread. The steak was very delicious with just the right amount of pepper. I ordered a side dish of french fries. Overall a great meal with excellent service at a reasonable price.

Delicious ham and cheese pancakes! They're soft, savory, full of flavor, and so much more…read moresatisfying than the ones at any pancake houses in the area. I try to stop here for a pancake whenever I'm in The Netherlands. My husband loves the Uitsmijter Speciaal, which I think is an uitsmijter (bread with fried egg on top) with ham, cheese and mushrooms. I didn't try any but it looked yummy. The service is pretty fast here, and very friendly. The only thing I'm not as fond of is that in The Netherlands service always seems to be either bad (rude), or a little too personal (nosy waitstaff). At Batifol it's the latter. My husband walked in a minute before me, because I was putting money in the meter and it was raining. So when I walked in, three men standing behind the bar stared at me, and then one yelled out loudly: "He's already waiting for you!" Okay... Then later as we're eating, we're using our cell phones and he says very loudly: "Oh, you guys don't talk to each other anymore?" which is one of my pet peeves. Why do so many waiters think it's okay to comment on your personal life? You wouldn't say that when people are reading the newspaper, well, we read the newspaper on our phones in the morning, because we're not 80 years old and don't use paper versions anymore. Besides, we live together and both work from home, we happily spend 24/7 together and have for the past 11 years. But are we required to have a lively conversation 100% of that time? And what business is that of the waitstaff? A lot of Dutch people seem to find it very difficult to keep their commentary on other people's lives to themselves. Oh well, I shouldn't complain, at least the service is friendly and their nosiness ("curiosity" as the Dutch like to call it) is entirely well-intended. Besides, the food here is great, and you get a free cookie with tea or coffee! So we'll keep coming back.

Went there right after the lockdown was over and outside seating was open for business…read more I had a 300gr Rib Eye (I think it was more than 300gr) and it came with 3 sides - fries, vegetables and a fruit salad. We had a great time and the food was delicious. The rib eye wasn't as tender as I expected BUT still great quality. So if you're in Amsterdam or Zandvoort take a trip to Haarlem. Not that the city is just beautiful but De kale Pater has great food as well.

We came on a Monday without reservations and was greeted by a group of friendly staffs. Food took a while to come out. Below are the food we ordered: Chateaubriand (slides of steak with mushrooms and giant pepper): simply delicious! So tender and juicy without much seasoning. For 26.50 euro it came with plenty of sizes. Don't let the giant bell pepper intimidates you. It's the freshest and sweetest pepper I've had. Smoked salmon salad: my colleague's wife ordered this dish and she said she loved how light and fresh the salad was. They're not stinky with their salmon Surf and turf: I had a chance to taste the steak in this dish. It had more flavor than the chateaubriand but still enjoyable Fyi, the waitress' English was that good so it makes it a little bit harder for them to translate some of the menu (and that's why you're reading this review :-). I didn't find the price too expensive. Highly recommend this place if you're not in a rush for dinner. Perfect place for date night as well.

so normally, i'd think: Happy Tosti is a chain (strike 1). this location is inside a massive…read moreshopping complex (strike 2). and then not get to strike three because why? but oh, so glad we gave this a chance. this Happy Tosti is SO HAPPY! first of all, tosti is Dutch for "sandwich." well, kind of. specifically, a ham-and-cheese sandwich, but there's all kinds of variations on that here. what you need to know, o traveller (i'm assuming you are because a) you are reading my English review and b) this is very close to Schiphol and all associated airport hotels), is the following: - there is an English menu. just ask nicely for it at the cashier. and don't worry, the Dutch are quite kind about speaking English. - super friendly service. see above. - the prices are quite fair for what you're getting. - and what you're getting is serious sando yumminess. there are some delightful combos, and everything is quite customizable since it's all made to order. - the bathroom is free and clean and has a very cool construction. - there is seating inside -- including on real swings! it does not get cooler than that. - and there is seating "outside" -- yes, you're in the mall, but it's decorated to feel like it's outside. nice touch. - and very family-friendly -- you're right next to a kiddie playspace. like i said: SO HAPPY!
