Let me just say that being my first tattoo I was cautious in finding a good artist in a clean, comfortable location. The entire experience from scheduling to the preparation to the actual appointment including aftercare was seamless and simple. Yes you must get an appointment months in advance, but you can possibly get a walk in as well. I booked mine three months out but I also had a 5 hour piece of art. Dooner was exceptional and handled my anxiety like a champ. I felt comfortable the entire time other than the first tattoo jitters I'm sure most go through. I attempt to allay his fears by noting that I have done many of my own piercings but this one is in a difficult area (Lower back). I offer to pay a handsome premium for ONE piercing. I offered $200 (normally 50-80 dependent on where you go and placement) Instead of accommodating a client (who has done many of their own piercings with no complications, and I DID explain this) the piercer chose the immature reaction and *hung up* on a potential client. *** Your mileage may vary but I would be wary of a piercer that gets emotive enough to just hang up with zero warning. *** Bad business practices. Poor customer service. It is not surprising that the vast majority of businesses in this line of service do not last and eventually close. The one star was well earned.

I stopped into the new Rowan location (I think Pittsburgh's first Rowan location!) on Friday. I…read morewanted to get my lobes pierced. I was looking online before I stopped in and noticed that this location is only piercing lobes and helix at this time. When I walked in, I was the only person there, besides the employees. I had to complete an online waiver and book an appointment online using a QR code in store, which was easy. At Rowan, you can choose to get pierced with a piercing gun (for lobes and helix) or by needle (for other ear piercings like the conch, forward helix, etc) The earrings that I wanted were out of stock, so I went with another pair. The piercings themselves were quick and easy. The nurse who pierced me said I was the first real person that she pierced. She did a great job and was thorough! She also said that they are not trained on needle piercings yet, but hope to be trained by early next year. For two lobe piercings and a pair of earrings, my total was $100 plus tax. ($50 for two piercing gun piercings and $50 for the earrings). So this experience is a pricier (for lobes) than other places, but the experience is always great. I'm happy to have a Rowan locally now!

I am head over boots with the finished product! The process of getting a tattoo, to me, is annoying, but once it's done it's so worth it! Jess banged out a pretty big top shoulder piece for me (even with breaks) in under 3 hours. She is a great conversationalist and made me feel comfortable and chill the whole time I was there. The whole team at Alter Ego is really nice and great to hang out with. It's been a month now; and my tattoo has healed beautifully! I made another appointment to get more work done in September!
