The center itself is closed but you can still walk through the park and see the animals. We went here to check out the animals who suffer from physical and mental illness according to the nature center. There are all sorts from a fox to a pair of Horned Owls. All of the birds of prey had been fed. When we walked by you could see the motionless white rates that had been laid out for them. We walked on down the trail which was well marked and walked along the stream and the Stiller River. Mosquitoes were a little more active here. When the skies turned a dark shade of grey we headed back up the trail to the car. We may come again to do a run when the path dries out a little more.

I like this nature center. However, I did feel that some of the mammals should be in larger enclosures or at least have some more activities available to them. At the very least they should have one other species of their kind with them if they are a pack type animal. The bird viewing area is wonderful. There's quite a bit of education to be learned here.

Seeing a Fox was the highlight of my trip here. It was too cute. Also loved the owls and coyote. This place was very friendly and clean (has bathrooms). They only take cash, but if you don't have any you can mail them the $ later and still visit which was nice. The animals seemed to have good living conditions and the trails were fun.

Nice place to bring kids or take a relaxing stroll on trails as an adult. I love the upstairs bird observatory and the library.

The facility is a 4, the animals are also a 4 (they often have too many animals to care for and maintain their health appropriately) The people who work here, obviously care about animals. Their wellbeing, their adoption, and I'm sure they do their due diligence to keep records on the animals housed in the ARC. However it's to a fault. We were pressured, lied to and had experienced omitted behavioral conditions that inevitably put a loved one at risk because the employees selfish need to get the dog adopted (knowing full well that the particular canine specimen has deep seeded trauma that prevented the pup from having a successful rehoming in a family environment.) They wanted the dog to leave the facility so badly, that they withheld pertinent information about the dogs history until after the paperwork for adoption was signed. Even then, the information was watered down and omitted specific details that led to a dangerous situation. People who care for animals at the risk of human life are still bad people no matter how much they care for animals.

I ran into a situation where I needed some work done at my home, and I could not continue to foster the FOURTEEN foster pets that I had through them at the time. Rather than work with me, help me, and have empathy for my situation, I experienced a lot of pushback, and negative reactions to needing a break from fostering. My phone calls and texts were not being returned. When they were returned, I was met with attitude and a complete lack of understanding or compassion. After much resistance, they finally took the fosters back. They don't supply their fosters with food or supplies as they claim. Not once was I given any supplies for the dozens of animals that I fostered through them, even when I expressed that the puppies I was fostering were going through more food than I could manage. They also don't spay and neuter most of their animals before adoption. Now that I am back in my home, neither Regan, nor Jaime, (the founders of PORT), will return my messages asking about the well-being of my former fosters. If you bend over and break your back for them, you'll be great. But God forbid life happens and you find yourself unable to help, because you then mean NOTHING to them. Proceed with caution should you decide to do any sort of business with PORT. Don't expect a lot of help. Definitely don't expect compassion and empathy when life happens. Edit in response to PORT's reply: Port requires a minimum of 5 days notice for return, except in cases of emergency. I had an emergency. I explained this to you guys over and over and over again and your response was, "that must be tough." I had a dog through you that was being aggressive with a child. But you guys didn't consider a threat to someone's safety an emergency and were of no help. In some cases, I waited more than 5 days for you to help; I waited literally weeks! Not to mention that that dog was pregnant, and when I took her, you never advised me that that was a possibility. So I ended up with eight puppies, when I agreed to one. It was never "clear to you" that our foster relationship had come to its conclusion and that I wished to step away. I quite literally told you that once I was back in my home, I would take the animals back if they still needed placement. I notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the puppies. You did not take them until July 18th, and that was only after I showed up to get their shots and microchips, and had to PLEAD with you to help me. I notified both of you that Rusty was a safety risk, and you literally did not care. Even after notifying you of the unsafe circumstances, it took you two days to take her, and that was only after I refused to give you any more leeway. That was also after I had notified you on July 10th that I could not handle all of the animals that I had. You did not take Rusty back until July 31st. I let you know on July 28th that I was having trouble getting the kittens adopted. I notified you on August 4th that we needed to move the kittens. You did not take them until August 15th. As for the spay/neuter, it's irresponsible for a rescue not to spay and neuter before adoption, regardless of any contract. I also asked, several times, about getting my fosters fixed, and you never followed through. Don't gaslight me. You did enough of that when I was actually fostering with you.

You don't get to reserve animals, they need to adopt out animals as quickly as possible as soon as they're ready to make room for more. You are not shopping, you are saving a life. Negative reviews about things like wait times are also hilarious. This is a non-profit. Are you expecting 5-star service catered to your every whim? The number of paid employees are kept to a minimum at non-profits to reduce operating costs and therefore adoption fees. I adopted two cats from this shelter. One of my cats was spayed and had all her teeth removed prior to adoption. This would've costed a LOT of money, but they did it anyway because every individual is worth it. She was an extremely scared cat for the first few months I had her but now she's the most affectionate cat ever. The review about "discriminating against black strays" was ludicrous. This is a no-kill shelter and cannot take in cats when they don't have room. The alternative is killing someone to make room for your surrender. People who treat animals as props, objects, and commodities should not have companion animals.
