"Was going to give them a four-star review, then I saw the free pretzels and the Marzen beer." This is the only Brewery in the town of Benicia. It's in an industrial area, a few miles away from downtown. There are lots of auto repair, body shops, oil refineries, and a church across the street. In other words you're completely covered: Auto Repair, beer, gas, and spiritual counseling. I couldn't help wondering how many of their customers come from the church across the way on Sunday afternoon. The bartender explained that several parties come over from the church after Sunday Services. She did not know if the pastor was one of them. I think he is. The day that I visited, they were getting ready for a huge special party with barbecue and a band. Even so, I was quickly served. To my surprise and delight they had a Marzen. It was absolutely outstanding! Actually better than Gordon Biersch. There is a small room that seats about 20 at counters when you first walk in. Then to the left is a much larger, covered garage with picnic tables. In chatting with the bartender, I learned that the beer is actually brewed in a three-car garage! I am not making this up. I don't know how they do it, but they are very successful at it. So all in all, a very pleasant visit. Nice people, nice beer, What more could you want? read more

I really like this place. The beer is good. The ambiance is something between "parking-lot-chic" and "industrial-park-grunge" so not a destination for ambiance. But, the beer is good. The other really great draw is the food truck rotation. They have Cousins Lobster about once a month and then a panoply of delicious trucks roll up weekly on an uneven rotation. This is the smaller (tiny even) local spot in benecia what has the fresh local beer. They are located in a light industrial office park which has more then enough parking. Assuming you can figure out the not as helpful as you'd like gps directions you'll have no issues finding a spot to park. Inside the decor is of the industrial living room theme. The space is logically and physically divided into two sections, one having limited zestfully jolly seating along with the serving counter, and the other with tons of space to move around in and all the games. No kitchen, no food truck (but the do offer snacks-like popcorn or pretzels at least when we there) but I can't imagine that bringing your dinner in would be a problem. The beer serving side has room for six or so at the counter, four or five tables a bit farther back. Nothing any too exciting, and on our visit the more private spots were in the larger add on gaming/beer hall space as all the serious jolly happy hour peeps were clustered around the bar area.Service is of the order at bar, pay at bar, get served at bar model. No waiting on my visit, but if there had been more then ten people there it could stack up a bit. Pricing was less then you'd expect for a microbrewery. You are looking at roughly four bucks a pint. The beer was decent. Nothing too dramatic or experimental yet very drinkable. Right around a half dozen or so taps depending on what the brewer has been up to. The IPA-which was the locally popular choice-wasn't overpowered or super bitter. More on the APA side of things. The pilsener was kind of miss for me. Not any too crisp, heavy on the hops with a thick consistency. The smoked lager was a gem. Very much worth a try., and if you aren't a big smoked beer fan go for the helles as it's pretty much the smoked lager w/o smoke flavor. Overall it's a very mellow, blue collar spot to enjoy some nice fresh beer. read more

I recently ordered some Crowlers from here to support my local brewery. They were kind enough to deliver it to my door without any hassle. Everyone I interacted with was very kind, something I appreciate. If they make beer with the same integrity that they approach service, it shows. I am a hop head, so I ordered the Dust Devil IPA, Z340 & Dust Devil IPAs. All very impressive. Into the Woods was probably my favorite, balanced, deceptively smooth and great finish. Mark my words: these guys are headed straight to the top! Stopped in to check out Benicia's first taproom, and it didn't disappoint! Aside from having the nicest owners you could possibly imagine, their beer is incredible. My current favorite is their Maritime IPA, which has delicious citrus notes that tone down the bitterness often associated with an IPA. Since the taproom just opened, there is still some energy being put into their overall ambiance - the guys are still working on creating their vibe. What I did love is that literally EVERYTHING is an homage to our local Benicia history. Bartops milled from local cedar (at the hand of owner Mark Keller), beers named after local landmarks, even pieces of the recently replaced BHS bleachers are used for decor! I can't wait to watch this place grow and evolve into its full potential! If the quality of beer is any indicator, the Bruehol team is blazing a trail for success. read more

Bruehol is doing take out right now and could really use not just Benicia's community support, but north bay's and any other passerby support on their weary travel through Benicia as there location is in an industrial area just off the 680. If you are a lover of good German style beer, you have already scoped this place out! Two beer favorites of mine: Maritime and Victory Ship. Absolutely delicious and full of hop and malts. Maritime is their flagship beer and you will easily understand why when you taste it! They also produce a stout, IPA, Double IPA, dark lager and seltzer's. Mark the owner came out and introduced himself on my first visit. Very friendly professional brewery. The brews are all very excellent. My favorite is the IPA Z340 with a Alc. by Vol. of 7.1 and an International Bitterness Units 70. That of a Stout. I normally do not care for Indian Pale Ales at all, however these guys use German Hops making it superior on all levels. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. These guys do their own wood work for bars, tables, and benches. The main bar has the lit river flowing through it, (epoxy flowing down the length of the split wood with light changing colors). Gorgeous grains and finishes. The bar tender is knowledgeable and courteous. I purchased their stainless steel double insulated growler. It is high quality with a locking latch top. This was my first visit to this small brewery, open since 2014, hard to find, in two bays at the back of a light-industry and commercial complex on the northeastern edge of Benicia. Physical production is off-premises, in a garage; so I suppose technically this is a taproom rather than a literal brewpub; regardless, they're serving up some fine stuff. One room includes a four-stool bar, used primarily as a service bar, with counters and more stools around the sides; the adjacent room has several long tables, and a display of barrels. Clean gender-neutral restroom. Discreet dog bowl. Samplers are available at $2 per (I think) 4-oz. pour. I tried all of their current taps. (Note: ABV and IBU figures are from their electronic board; in some cases, information on their website differs slightly.) - Gold Rush Helles Lager. 5.1% ABV, 18 IBU. Clear gold, halo-and-patches head. (Note: sampler pours often have less head expression than a full pint would.) Edelhopf (I couldn't pin down the variety) character against a slightly sweet malt base; very mainstream Bavarian lager taste. - Old Capitol Pilsner. 5/2%, 40 IBU. Clear gold, very light head, slightly salty nose. Floral and grassy hops, grainy malt base. - Hefe Weizen. 4.3%; IBU negligible. Cloudy straw, with no head. Clove nose. Clove and banana ester taste, just a touch of bittering showing up in the finish. - Smash IPA. 6.8%, IBU not stated. Simcoe hops, well-balanced against American pale two-row malt. Finishes on the hoppy side, but not intensely bitter. - Green Valley Wet Hop IPA. 6.8%, 70 IBU. Hazy amber, light head. Juicy pineapple, mango, and papaya nose; taste is similar, with a musky tobacco note, and a burst of bitter at the finish. Hop varieties include Cascade, Chinook, and their rare home-grown Teamaker, as well as Falconer's Flight pellet blend; dry-hopped with Citra. Northwest pale, Munich, and bready Victory malts, as well as some wheat. - 5W40 Black Ale. 4.8%, 25 IBU. Opaque dark brown, tan halo head. Tangy and roasty malt nose. We love Bruehol. It is everything a local brew pub should be. They have a great selection of beers that are all excellent and the beer tenders are friendly and helpful. The open air seating next to the main taproom is great for kids and is dog friendly. They have different food trucks and vendors who set up on many nights, we have gotten some really good food.
